I need to copy a series of scenes from several commercial DVD's and then edit snippets into a single video (with narrations videos I make between the scenes). What software is best to get the actual rips and then what editing software can handle this best without requiring me to be a video editing professional? Is AnyDVD + CloneDVD+??? the answer? You are going to say I need to buy a Mac, aren't you?

I want to rip a movie from a DVD to its elementary streams (.ac3 & .m2v). I can do this using the Stream Processing\Demux option in DVD Decrypter, but because the video is spread across several VOBs, I end up with several video files. So - I then have to rejoin these video segments, which I'm using the Join command in DOS for. It works fine but I'm wondering if there's an easier way to do this? I'm open to Mac options too.

I need a rather rare video tape copied to DVD or saved as a video file. I don't have the equipment to do it myself and the tape is out of print, only released in Japan, unlikely to ever be released on dvd, and still under copyright. It's official documentation of an American child actor's Japanese music career. It is my 'happy' tape because I always feel better after I watch it. What is the best way to get this copied? Bonus points if it's cheap or free and/or local to Charlotte, NC. [more inside]

I have a dear pal with a coke habit that has driven him to homelessness. He is not a US-native; he grew up in pre-change Eastern Europe. He does have a green card. He has had trouble hiolding job and appears to have never received training in money-management issues either in the US or at home. I do not want him to die, which he will surely do this year if things do not change. What can I do?

For some reason my copy of Deltron 3030 [The Instrumentals] CD just will not rip to mp3 without serious artifacts appearing on the mp3 version. The CD plays fine on every stereo I have tried but will not rip on any of the Macs I have here at home. Anyone know where I might obtain a copy of the MP3 version of these songs hopefully for free since I already legally own the album and just want them on my iPod? Or on the other hand, anyone know how I might rip these successfully? [more inside]

I'm looking to rip my 300 CDs on to my computer in preparation for an portable audio player. What is the best quality compressed format for music? Once in a while a friend comes along with a really cool new CD. What I want to do is: Instantly Rip it to my hard disk, listen to it at the same time, and talk to my friend. What I do now instead is: Start ripping, wait until the first track is finished, then listen to the first track while ripping the others. Talking gets difficult because every now and then I have to enqueue the next track to the player.

When I make backups of DVDs I own (of course) on my powerbook using DVDBackup or DVDimager or MacTheRipper, the resulting video_ts folder is always 6-8 gigs in size, and blank DVDs are only 4.whatever gigs. What I've been doing is using handbrake to make about 4 gig MPG4s out of them and burning that to a DVD, but there must be a way (codec?) to make my DVD backups burnable to normal DVD-Rs, right? I don't want everything - just the main feature, and in the case of foreign films, the subtitles.

CDex question. I'm liking it in all regards, but still banging my head over one convenience feature. Isn't there a way to get it to encode a CD as MP3s, and drop the MP3s into a folder with the artist or album title? All I can get it to do is dump MP3 files into its generic "output" folder, and it's slowing down my mass ripping. Help a stupid CDex newbie!

A computer illiterate question about DvD burn: got a new top-o-line computer with a dvd burner and a dvd-rom. I have blank dvds. I go to Blockbuster and rent _____. Is it possible to simply copy the Blockbuster DVD and then have my own useable copy? It seems to me that there would be a problem with the menus or something. Is there software which I need to copy DvDs so that they play in my TV-DvD player? Is there a copyright protection issue?

Does anyone know of a free (emphasis on FREE) program for Mac (or something I can run through X-11) that can either 1. rip just part of a CD track to MP3 or 2. create a new file from part of an MP3? I'm annoyed with "hidden" tracks that introduce 15 minutes of silence when my iPod is on random.
