Even with the ringer set on maximum volume, I tend not to hear my phone ringing when I'm out walking on a busy London street. I'd like a ringtone that will be audible over traffic noise, but not be earsplitting or annoying when I'm indoors. Are there any acoustic properties (other than sheer loudness) that I should look for in a ringtone to help it stand out against a background of car engines and other street noise?

Can you point me towards a site with different "scratching" noises suitable for ringtones (length and formatwise). Would also appreciate a step by step tutorial of how to convert said mp3/mp4 to an iPhone 4S ringtone. Cheers

I'm searching for a lowkey unobtrusive but interesting ringtone that won't draw looks of ire from those around me. I know this has been covered on ask.mefi before
(in 2006), and, indeed, I ended up with one of those ringtones on a long ago now dead phone. But six years later, most of those links are dead, and we've moved from RAZRs to iPhones and Androids.
So what's the latest and greatest in non-annoying ringy-dingys for our phones? [more inside]

I have some iPhone ringtones I've made with GarageBand that are entirely
too loud. I cannot figure out how to decrease the volume. Any suggestions? [more inside]

How do I go around sending a ringtone to a UK iPhone customer anonymously? I don't want them to incur any charges or other costs as a result, nor be bombarded by subsequent ringtones by some overzealous ringtone company. I simply want a website where I can select the ringtone, enter their number and off goes the ringtone. I am happy to pay for it. [more inside]

I thought this would be simple, but it isn't. I want to purchase a song as the new ringtone of my At&t Blackberry Pearl, and I have hit all sorts of roadblocks. [more inside]

Here goes my lamest question ever...so, I have for some reason become determined to have the "Liberty Bell March" (aka the "Monty Python" theme song) as my phone's ringtone -- but, I'd like a clip of the ACTUAL recording, not some crappy MIDI file (which is all it seems I can find). anyone know where I can find that?

Usually, when you call somebody's cell phone and hear a beep after each ring, it means they are on the phone with somebody else. Are there any other ring indicators like that? [more inside]

Free/custom ringtones for a KRAZR on a Rogers Canada plan? Apparently they have locked it but I'm sure you smart people know a way around it. :) [more inside]

What is the name of the website that allows you to upload mp3's to its site, converts them to ringtone format, and then text messages them to your phone for free (after a delay) or immediately (for a donation)?

A need a ringtones, but I hate ringtones: My iPhone's built-in ringtones aren't very good, so I'll have to buy one off iTunes. The problem is that I want something I can use in a business setting, and that is discrete, pleasant, and loud enough to hear. Can you suggest a song I should buy as a ringtone?

I have an mp3 I'd like to use as a ring tone, but it's 2 seconds too long. I don't want to cut off the beginning or end, but is there some other way to shorten it to 30 seconds? What software (OS X please) can do this?
I realize some options might make it sound slightly off
, but it's a ring tone so I shouldn't be too bothered by it.

Are there any cellphone MP3 players that let you set an mp3 as a ringtone? I'm thinking of replacing my cellphone and mp3 player, but I refuse to buy a combo device that won't let me set an mp3 as a ringtone, because that's insane. I also want to be able to buy an unlocked handset and use it with whatever provider I want, rather then being a slave. (Can you tell I really don't like the cellphone industry?) [more inside]

Does anyone know the site that allowed you to trim audio, convert to mp3, and send a link to your phone via SMS for free? I already know about mobile17
, and that's not it. This one had no waiting time, was completely free, and a really nice audio-editor style graphical interface. [more inside]

Where can I download ringtones that sound like actual "ring tones"? I don't want Black Eyed Peas or Justin Timberlake. A beeping or a ringing sound will do. I can't believe how difficult this has been to find.

How can I take a mp3 and load it as a ringtone on my Nextel Motorola i730?
It's a lousy question, I know, but I just can't find the answer on either Nextel.com or with Google.
