Any Arabic-speaking, food-loving Puerto Rican Bando fans in DC?

Any advice for a friend moving to Washington, DC, who is an ex-Air Force Puerto Rican (kickboxing) fighter studying Arabic at Georgetown? Dude has very specific interests, doesn't drink. He asked me if there was an Arabic part of town where he could live. I don't think so, right? He loves Puerto Rican food but I don't know of any around here -- just Cuban? He's a fighter and probably capable of hiring on as a trainer somewhere, judging by his physique. Any fighting institutions he should look into? Is Bando still a thing in DC?

Drilling for Dollar$

I'm mid 40s, have had 2 cavities in my life, to date, one in my late teens and another 15 years later.
My dentist from childhood retired in 1999. Since then I have consulted a dif't dentist each year, for a total of 7 dental "exams". Each one has alerted me to various work I need done to my teefs, which I declined to have done. None has ever "diagnosed" a problem remotely similar to any of the preceeding dentists. Each has found something new. The science of Dentistry is a profession exactly how? How can I ever find an honest dentist?

I'm looking for a cheap hotel any place between San Juan and Fajardo Specifically, I want to find a fun place for a two year old. Last time we stayed at the Fajaro Inn, and we loved it. They had a terrific shallow pool for young kids, BUT it is on a steep hill and walking from the pool to our room was a major workout. This time we're bringing grandma, so the hill is best to be avoided. Any ideas?

We grow tired of Risk, but are always up for a risk.

What board game would my friends and I enjoy next? Now, forewarning, I have done a lot of research on this and am just unable to come up with a decision. I have done quite a few mefi searches as well, which pointed me in different directions but never really answered this hankering question, as it is quite specific.

My friends enjoy coming together around a good board game. We love the player interaction and strategy they can bring that other games and activities cannot. The problem is we have played the heck out of Risk, and all the various types of Risk (including the Star Wars Risks, etc etc) We want a new game, but being a college student my money is low, even though my desire to play something new is high.

I have looked into a few games, including Settlers of Catan, Tigris and Euphrates, and Puerto Rico. I know quite a bit about the rules, and ideas of how play would go, but.. I dont know if they really fit my ideal game that I want to look into next. I have been spending a lot of time on boardgamegeek.com searching around, but I still can't find enough information to decide.

We love the player interaction and strategy of Risk. Secret alliances, well known alliances, troop placement and fortification, its all great and it makes for a very thought provoking night. We hate (or love depending on your side of the luck) how much dice comes into play. You could out-place, out-think, and out-play everyone but lose because of a string of bad luck. This often leads to a lot of hostility in the group at the end of the night, even though we meant to just come together for a fun time.

The game I want can have a luck based part to it, as long as it only alters gameplay, or can be overcome by strategy. Also, we like being against each other, and being able to have alliances, as in a military styl games would probably be a plus, but is not necessary as long as it has player interaction and negotiations of sorts.

So please Hive Mind, help me find my friends and I a new board game. New recommendations beyond what I have already mentioned are welcome, as long as they fit what we want. Thanks :)

My lovely gentleman friend and I are going to be in San Juan for New Year's Eve. Help us figure out where to shack up for the evening!

Where's the party at on New Year's Eve in San Juan? I stayed in Condado the last time I was there, but I want to make sure that our room is wherever the party is since we don't want to be taxi-ing around in traffic. So if the party is in Old San Juan, we want to stay there. Conversely, if it's in Condado, over there. If there's no big party, then Old San Juan is best.

So, first question: Where's the party at?

Second question: Where are the budget hotels or hostels at?

My guess is that we'll want something in OSJ, so if anyone can recommend something centrally located and relatively affordable then that would be super appreciated.

Thanks, hive!
Help me read this Javascript and pass the right parameters?

I'm trying to implement some AJAX features in a project, and need help deciphering the possible options and parameters of the Rico framework's accordion display. Specifically, I want to use it as a left-side site menu, ala Outlook. But to be useful, I think it needs to remember its open state as the user moves from page to page -- rather than resetting to a default state each time.

The Rico JavaScript file has an accordion section which mentions parameters like lastExpandedTab and onLoadShowTab, but I'm not JS-savvy enough to figure out how to achieve what I'm after.

How shall I spend my Puerto Rican vacation?

What are the "don't miss" things in Puerto Rico for a first-time visitor? On Saturday my girl and I wing off to San Juan for a week. (I can hear the celebration already - a week with no phearlez postings!) A good friend was sent there for work and put up in a 2 bedroom condo in San Juan and provided with a car, both of which she is graciously sharing with us during our stay.

We've already booked tickets for the three of us to go to Vieques on the first day we arrive to enjoy the bio-bay and we come back the following day. Our generous host has already seen the San Juan forts so we'll be doing those on our own during the week when she's at work. What else shall we make sure to see?

While our host is okay with us pissing off with the car I'd like to somewhat minimize the number of times we force her to bum a ride to and from work. So overnight or long driving trips are okay but I don't want to do that more than once or twice. Host and I are SCUBA certified, my dear is not, so SCUBA outings need to offer snorkeling as well. Physical activity is great but I run only when chased.

What are you most glad you did? What did you hate? Are you there now and interested in having a beer some evening or lunchtime?

Vieques vacation

Things to do in Vieques? My girlfriend and I are going to Vieques, Puerto Rico soon. So far, we plan on snorkeling, biking, kayaking in the Bioluminescent Bay and relaxing excessively. Are there any things/places/secrets we have to check out while we're there? Do we really need to rent a car?
