Travel in the NewEngland states. A little help please?

Travel plans through the Northeast (New England States) Looking for the fun/quirky ideas. Myself and my g/f - we know we want to travel in the New England area for about week (from Aug 7th-12th). We're cheap and we like to keep it that way (but don't want to camp in tents.)

We're thinking about going to the Arlington craft sale in VT on sat the 8th and the Mystic Outdoor festival on the 9th...

And beyond that, we don't know. We're mobile, adults (late 30s), I've traveled more than she has; but this is a first (a random cartrip vacation together.) She's never been to a BnB (so kitchy little cheaper ones are good...)

Not so interested in food festivals, but a brewery visit is fine...music festivals aren't our cup of tea either. Also a no-go anything involving the caging of animals (circuses and zoos make the baby jesus cry.)

Maybe a meetup (or crashing at a mefi's place) would be fun too.

C'mon - Give us your best. Feel free to toss in quirky or touristy 'don't miss' things

What's the best/cheapest way to get to Terminal B at Boston's Logan Airport so that I'll make a 7 am domestic flight on a Tuesday?

What's the best/cheapest way to get to Terminal B at Boston's Logan Airport so that I'll make a 7 am domestic flight on a Tuesday? When do I have to be there? Here are roughly the two places I can start from (i.e. friends whose couches I can crash on), Corner of Fairbanks and Washington in Brighton and Valley Road Station, near Mattapan station.

I live in Providence, RI. The earliest bus from there doesn't arrive until 6:45 am at Logan and the earliest train doesn't arrive until 6:20 at South Station.

I'd prefer not have one of my friends drive me to Logan if I can help it and I'd prefer to avoid paying for a taxi if I can avoid it.

According to this pdf from MBTA these are the first trip times for:

Subway leaving Mattapan - 5:05
Silver Line to Airport from South Station - 5:35

I can't find a start time for the Mattapan rollercoaster (which Valley Road is a station on).

I want to play in a fountain.

playing in fountains and other alternative entertainment (in/near RI)? it's summer, and i want to go splash around in some fountains. but i don't know of any good ones (especially the ones with multiple spouts out of the ground). got any recommendations? any other RI/MA-specific alternative activities are welcome as well (and yes, i have read related posts).

Unfortunately, "Move to Canada" is also not an option.

I Live in A Stupid, NonSocialized Imperialistic Country Filter: Please hope me find private health insurance. I need to buy a private health insurance plan for one person. I have a chronic pre-existing condition.

I also live in Rhode Island.

No, I can't receive insurance based on employment at this time. That option has already been explored and due to my line of work (childcare) and the RI economy (flamingly awful) it's just not going to pan out.

No, my disease isn't bad enough to qualify for disability. Since I *can* be controlled on medication, I'm not disabled. Except when I can't get my meds. Then I am. But the government doesn't really care about that and won't pay for them on that basis.

Any suggestions as to companies that sell private plans or brokers or whatnot - anything really - is helpful. I'm really overwhelmed about where to even start with all of this. I've been through this particular merry-go-round before and lived with no insurance, but that's just not an option at this point.

Obscure New England? I've seen the best, what about the rest? What quirky, "second tier," and out of the way places have I missed? My SO and I have been all over New England, we've seen the big stuff, especially the major stuff along the coasts. So . . .

What quirky, unique, oddball, hidden gems or secretly awesome places have we not been to?

What seldom visited state parks, by-way diners, unusual attractions, great picnic spots, attractions from an earlier age and things only-the-locals-would-know can you suggest?

Where can we take interesting non-ocean photos in the Ocean State?

What's should we photograph in Rhode Island, besides the beach? A few of us are going on a photo expedition in a few weeks, and we're looking for interesting ideas for locations in Rhode Island to take pictures. My wife (the only RI native) prefers historic cemeteries/nature/landscapes, her friend likes ruins/urban decay, and the rest of us are there to take pictures of anything and everything. There's only so many beach photos a person can take in the Ocean State before they all start looking the same.

None of us wants to get screwed trespassing for the really interesting stuff, so stuff like the Ladd and Rocky Point is out of the question.

Any suggestions?

Reliable watch repair in Providence?

A while ago, I had the battery to my (nice) watch replaced while on vacation. Since it was water resistant to a decent depth, I had the store do a water pressure test, post-replacement. Not too long after, but definitely after the vacation, the watch stopped working. It would also fog up inside the watch face. I want my watch to work again, but I've lost a bit of faith in the average jewelry store. I live in Providence RI. Do you know any reputable, reliable, and skilled watch repair persons?

YANMA, so any suggestions for an accountant in/around Providence, RI? And how much should it cost for a consultation? I moved to Providence from Brooklyn a few months back and I need an accountant to help me understand what taxes I am going to owe to each state.

Part I: Any suggestions for a good accountant in/around Providence? I have a car, so I'm willing to drive far if needed (including Boston).

Part II: What should I expect to pay? I would like a consultation upfront to discuss my multi-state tax issues and to help me determine if I need to put money away for tax time next year. I would also like to have this person prepare my '08 tax return as well.

Am I entitled to back pay for Sunday work undertaken in Rhode Island?

Am I entitled to back pay for a year of working Sundays in Rhode Island and not receiving time and a half wages? I work in a small cafe in Rhode Island (there are six employees), and I have been working Sundays for about a year without ever receiving time and a half wages. I am pretty clueless as to the subtleties of RI labor law, and I only even heard about the time and a half statutes recently.

I've tried to decipher the RI labor laws posted on the web, but they're a little too gibberish for me. I believe that the relevant statutes can be found here . Can somebody tell me whether or not I have a case to demand back pay for the Sundays I've worked?

Some other info that may or may not be relevant:

The cafe is open seven days a week, from 7am to 11pm. Employees work on an ever-shifting schedule that changes from week to week. I have been scheduled on Sundays more often than not, but I do not work Sundays every week.

My employers have never given me a stated option not to work Sundays, or mentioned any regulations pertaining to working Sundays.

The owner of the business comes across as pretty shady (he is always dodging collectors who call the cafe during open hours. We are instructed always to say he is not in the building, regardless of whether he is or not). It wouldn't *shock* me if he were trying to save some money by evading the law.

All the same, I am aware that certain businesses are exempt, so I want to make sure I have a case before I bring it forward to the owners and risk termination. If I do have a case, any advice as to the best way to proceed would be much appreciated.

East Beach recommendations?

We are escaping to East Beach in RI at the end of this week. We are planning on camping at the Burlingame State Park, but as we have never been to the beach or the park we'd love some suggestions How early do you have to get to the beach to get parking? Any campsite recommendations? Also is there anywhere fantastic in Charlestown/nearby for dinner?

What exactly goes on in the Asian Massage parlors in Rhode Island? Flipping through the Phoenix, there are always ads for spas and massage parlors in Rhode Island. Considering they are in the adult section, one can only assume what goes on in there. But if they are doing what I think they are doing, how can that be legal?

As much as I'd like to contribute my vote to what could be a pivotal senate race, I don't want to do anything illegal. I need some clarification. I recently moved to a different town in Rhode Island and wasn't able to re-register to vote before the deadline. Yes, I suck - I was a bit busy with my wedding. I got pretty depressed when I realized I wouldn't be able to cast a vote on November 7. But last night my friend mentioned that I could vote in my old town, where I am still registered.

Is he full of it? Or is this actually a possibility?

holiday sublet in Providence

Finding a place to stay in Providence for two weeks in November? I will be visiting Providence, RI for two weeks in early November. I need to stay in the city centre or East Side. (This is unfortunately a requirement.) Travelocity and other aggregators are showing about $170+ per night for a hotel room!!! Given that it's well below $1,000 pcm for a 1br apartment, I'm trying to find alternatives, if they exist.

I'd be willing even to pay for a full month's rent at $1,000, for instance, as that's still much cheaper than a hotel.

I'm already trolling Craigslist for short-term sublets (and having almost zero luck), but other than that, anyone have ideas for cheap(er) accommodation? I'm surprised there's not a website for holiday-makers looking for a place to stay, or even people checking out Brown/RISD. (All the Craigslist listings for vacation sublets are for towns elsewhere in RI.)

I need privacy so hostels are out, and I don't want to rent a room in a house.

(I'm flying in from Scotland, if that's in any way relevant.)

Where to board my dog in Providence Rhode Island?

Where can I board my dog in Providence, Rhode Island, for about 24 hours over memorial day weekend? I'm driving up to Vermont from DC to visit a friend for several days. She has plenty of room and a giant yard and dogs, so I plan to bring my dog (he's a great road-trip companion)...

The problem is that on my way I need to stop for my cousin's wedding reception, and a short visit with family, in Providence. I'll be staying with my aunt and uncle, so I can't have the dog with me for this one night.

Most boarding places I can find in Providence are either closed for Memorial day, or only take local dogs that already use their doggie daycare. Anyone know any good places? A private sitter? Since it's only for one day/night, I'm not too concerned about price. Strong preference for someplace cage-free, interaction with other dogs, time outside.

Where should young people live in Providence?

My barista and her boyfriend have decided to to move to Rhode Island. They plan to leave here (Oregon) this summer. Any advice regarding which parts of Providence (housing, etc.) would be a good fit for these early twenties y/o's? They want to "experience" the East Coast and are firm about this decision. I have lived in the East but not Northeast so I can't give any advice regarding the area. Any advice would be great so I can pass along.

I'm particularly interested in certain sections of town I may want to visit as well as restaurant suggestions. And heck, anything I don't know about would be mighty cool as well.
