I like Amy Winehouse, psychobilly, the Pipettes, the Acid House Kings, the O Brother... soundtrack, and even that throw-back-to-the-Andrews-Sisters Christina Aguilera song. I have a craving for music produced in the now but inspired by the 1930s to early 1960s, with my favourite era being the 1940s. Can you recommend anymore good contemporary rock/pop bands along these lines, including psychobilly bands I may not have heard about yet? [more inside]

I need an antique (or sufficiently vintage-y-antiqu-y styled) trunk for my living room. Problem: every piece I've seen to has been too big, too worn, too ugly, or too expensive. Where would I find stores/markets/fairs/dealers in the NYC metro area that might carry such trunks? I got a zipcar, so I can tool around the tri-state area. Insanely detailed requirements follow. I have a vintage, formica-topped dinette set that I put out for a yard sale over the weekend. In the places that were exposed to the sunlight (i.e. not covered by the cash box or other items which were for sale) the yellow formica top turned to a smokey yellow color. The places that were covered are still pure yellow like they were before. Can anyone give me a solution to returning the smokey parts back to their original, bright color? [more inside]

You all are geeks right? Well, remember those old-school banners that everyone used to print at home for Science Projects and other stuff? You know, where the letter "A" was made up of a bunch of A's to form the letter?
Where in this day and age would I get something like that done? Anyone have Print Shop Deluxe 1.0 and an old printer? Would I try some local schools??
My band's CD Release party is coming up and the whole theme of the packaging and everything is "old computer stuff".
Thanks! This place rules...
