I'm an author with a google problem. I have the same name as another author (completely different genre, though) and if you google that name, my books show up alongside hers in search results. This has been a recurring problem for years, to the point where I'm planning on tweaking my name for my next book, but for now I'd just like our books not to be conflated. (Google also combines images of me and this other woman, although I'm not as concerned about that). I've tried reporting this issue to google, but so far haven't had much luck penetrating the bubble. Any tech-savvy people have ideas on how I can distinguish my work?
Thanks in advance...

I do not like working out for the sake of working out. But I do love working hard and vigorously if it means I am being productive and getting something done. Can you help me come up with ideas of working hard and having a tangible result at the end? [more inside]

Have you had Gynecare Thermachoice? My doctor has recommended it to treat some ongoing menstrual issues I have. If you have had it, can you tell me if it was useful, horrible, etc., particularly related to cramps and PMS?

I have a unique name that, when my first and middle names are transposed, becomes a more common name that is now the moniker of a rather unattractive porn star. How do I fix Google results that turn my unique name into this porn-yielding other version? [more inside]

After a diagnostic mammogram and subsequent immediate ultrasound, the cyst discovered in last year's same tests has grown. I'm being sent for a biopsy, but have to wait TWO whole weeks due to being uninsured and going through "charity" care. I'm an anxious mess....how on earth will I survive the two weeks? AND, how long do biopsy results take? [more inside]

Google search was great, until now. Now it asks you "Did you mean this" and then populates the first two results with the term you didn't type, but Google thinks you MUST have meant, because they are smarter than you.
So, what's a good search engine for someone who loves the old google search simplicity? (P.S. Live and Yahoo are far worse)

For those mefites who have had LASIK, how long after the surgery did it take for your vision to stabilize? I had my surgery yesterday, and I had a follow-up appointment this morning. I already have 20/15 in my right eye, but my left eye is still pretty blurry. The Doctor at the followup appointment said the blurry vision in my left eye could be due to the fact that my left eye is still quite dry. I did have a stronger prescription and longer laser treatment in my left eye. He said that I may need enhancement surgery, but that we would not be able to tell if I needed it for 3 months, which is supposedly the time it takes for my vision to stabilize. The real question is did you achieve the best possible vision right away, or can it really take weeks or months before the best results of the surgery are realized?

Last night I was Googling on my laptop when I started getting non-expected results. The same spammy sites kept getting returned, even when different search terms were used. Repeated virus scans turned up nothing. The same search on my work terminal returns what I expected so I know it's my laptop. ? [more inside]

Election Night Question
: What network should I be locked into on Tuesday night? I want fairness, either by straight non-partisanship or true balance, good solid analysis of what each state's results mean as we go, and some personality and banter to keep it interesting. ABC? CNN? MSNBC? FOX News? (hah. just kidding about that one.)

In past presidental election nights I've sat around a TV with others or been at a campaign headquarters/party. This year I'll be at work though. Suggestions for sites/links for us numbers-obsessed people who want a constant stream of data/graphics/discussion?

Why does Google, which purportedly have a mondo cache of everything, "lose" search results over time? That is, if I search on something today that I last searched on a year ago, my results don't include all of last year's results. I understand that there's a complicated ranking algorithm, but that doesn't explain why some results go missing altogether.
