So I've got a macbook air. There is NOT a ton of room left on it. But somehow a bunch (like 25-30) photos I took were deleted. I'm still not sure how. And I want to restore JUST those photos. But as I understand it, I need to restore the entire library. And I don't have enough room for TWO libraries on this computer. So is it possible to just go back, look for the photos I want, and restore JUST those? If so...how? Latest mac OSX.
Here is picture. It is either walnut or oak, I am not sure. I believe those are water marks on it. The marble top lifts off so it should be pretty easy to restore. I would like to keep the wood look, no painting. What would be simplest way to do this? I have never done anything like this before.

Child Bac appears to have mis-entered her passcode on her 5th-generation iPod touch enough times to cause it to disable itself. It does not appear that the iPod has ever been synced with iTunes or backed up to iCloud. Is there no way to regain access to the device without a full system restore and loss of data? Really? Anybody who can touch a locked iPod for ten seconds can carry out a denial of service attack against it? Surely I'm missing something.

What is the best way to restore my backup to a new(er) iMac? Can you restore from Time Machine that has a slightly newer OS version than the new(er) computer? Or if you restore from a different backup that is a few days older but that would restore the matching OS, will Time Machine still work properly and let me update the missing recent work? After a complicated chain of circumstances involving a SIM migration, a grandfathered prepaid data plan that transferred from an iPhone 3G to a 4 to the current 5S, and many hours (no exaggeration) at the AT&T store while their employees talked to level 2 tech support, I was left with:
- A working iPhone 5S on AT&T, now getting LTE data but restored to factory settings.
- A recent encrypted backup from the phone, just before the wipe.

Someone recently stole my Iphone 4 and with my upgrade coming up in December and not having insurance I had to resort to alternative means to acquire a new phone. I purchased a HTC thunderbolt online with a cracked screen for fairly cheap. When I first got it the "device" worked great. I can browse the phone and connect to wifi and have no SD card issues but when I went to activate it at verizon they stuck a 4G LTE SIM card in it and tried activating it for over an hour then eventually told me they were stumped and to buy another phone or call customer support. I have a PCI-E SSD as my boot drive, and a win7-created RAID 1 on two 3TB drives. My boot drive has my user folder on it, but my documents, music, pictures, videos, etc folders shortcut to their respectable folders on the RAID. I would like this to be a full redundancy scheme and it is, but I've run into several nags and I would like to know how to fix them and prepare a fix-it plan before any of the drives fails. So, I want to restore my iPhone to a backup that's about 1 month old. However, I don't want to lose all of the SMS/MMS and Contacts data that I've accumulated in the meantime. Is it possible to extract and import this newer data into my older backup? I've searched around previous, similar MeFi questions and various 3rd party software, but no dice. And, sadly, jailbreaking is not an option. [more inside]

How paranoid should I be about my Windows XP Pro machine after hitting a dodgy site with Firefox 3.6, scanning with Microsoft Security Essentials, updating NoScript, scanning with MSE again, and finally using Windows to restore to yesterday's restore point, about 18 hours before hitting that site? Firefox is now missing NoScript completely, but it's been installed for weeks and surely should have been here yesterday morning. Has there been a known issue with NoScript, or am I just a special (and dim) snowflake? [more inside]

A friend has a new Asus Essentio CM5671. He first transferred his data files to the new machine. Then, while trying to create the Windows 7 restore disks, he appears to have somehow reset the computer to its factory state, restoring all the crapware that had been removed and obliterating his documents and data. Any idea how he may have done this and how he can un-do it?
On Friday, I used Sn0wbreeze to update my (jailbroken) iphone 3gs from 3.1.3 to 4.0. Everything went smoothly, and I restored all my previous apps and files. I synced the phone a few times that night to get all my settings the way I wanted. Today, I plugged in my phone to sync it, but now iTunes is showing the "Set Up Your Phone" screen, with the options of either setting it up as a new phone or restoring from a backup. What gives, and how do I make it quit? [more inside]

I have an antique copper pot that has lost its luster. It's an ordinary enough saucepan, but it was made and then brought from Russia by my great-grandparents in the 1880s. My own parents just recently passed it on to me and I'm proud to display it in my home. But it is rather dull-looking and is not as pretty as it could be. I would love some advice about how to polish it. I'm not interested in restoring it to a point where it looks like a knockoff, I'd just love to reveal the warm coppery glow I'm sure is lurking under the dullness.
