I'm going to be organizing a pub night for my class from the grade school I went to at some point — probably in September or October. The best location for the pub is probably in the north end of Toronto, say on Steeles or Finch somewhere, and not too far east or west. Not being very familiar with that area, I'd like suggestions as to a good venue. I'd like a quiet and comfortable atmosphere, decent food, and definitely nothing dive-y or too bar-like.

My mother was reminiscing about food she enjoyed as a youngster/young adult and she mentioned a "
burger chain that had a 'Scot Burger'" that somehow involved some craziness that sounds a whole lot like coleslaw but made with Green Goddess dressing. She swears it is not Green Goddess dressing, per se, but could be similar. My google-fu has turned out the link above, but fails me as to the exact make up of the alleged "Scot burger". Please help!

I am researching the growing occurence of pay-what-you-can, or pay-what-you-think-the-meal-was-worth restaurants. There are several operating both domestically and internationally, as explained
here. In light of the
Radiohead giveaway, the concept has been getting increasing, positive press.

Why do some restauants resist issuing separate checks for large groups? What are the motivations at play? Does it affect the tip? Is it an issue of complexity? Politics? I'd particularly appreciate perspective from people who have worked as waiters/waitresses, or who own a restaurant.

Trying to locate proprietors of a closed Tibetan restaurant in New York that was called Lhasa on 2nd Avenue. The food was so good and the owners were so nice. We would like to be able to tell them how often we think of them and how much their restaurant meant to us. It's been closed for a few years now. Does anyone know how we can figure out how to reach them?
