I moved to DC recently-ish, but haven't explored the restaurant scene very well. Now I have a friend coming to town next week, staying right near the Dupont Circle Metro station, and I could use some recommendations for places to eat. Can any locals help me out?

I'm looking for good dining out options for treating a friend to brunch, around 11:00am on December 25, in the general vicinity of Torrance, CA (or between Torrance and LAX). I'm sure there's tons of good places, but I need someplace that'll be open Christmas morning. Know of any?

NYC restaurant filter: Taking an elderly, out-of-town couple (that we don't know well) out to dinner. We'd like to take them somewhere reasonably nice (cost not a concern), but we do know that they prefer plainer foods that are easy on the digestive system. Manhattan required, midtown preferred. A little extra detail inside.

Yet another Chicago restaurant suggestion needed: 5 adults, 2 of whom's flight is coming in this evening and we want to give them a special "Chicago" experience. Preferably in the Loop? I live in Rogers Park and we don't want to have to go running all over the city. We will probably go straight from the airport to the restaurant.
I'm also looking for a nice place to have brunch tomorrow near the Palace theater downtown. Have any thoughts?

Does anyone know of a restaurant (in Israel, I believe), where people act as if they are eating, the waiters as if they are serving, the ambience is set up as if it were a real restaurant, and there is a real tab -- but there is neither real food nor beverage to be found anywhere?

I'm trying to put together a restaurant guide for an academic meeting being held in Los Angeles' Universal City. Aside from the (mediocre) places along the nearby Citywalk, can folks recommend interesting / funky / neat / fancy and other types of worthwhile places to eat within a short taxi ride, drive or public transportation trip (from the Universal City metro station)?
