I've had some severe mood issues around my period since having my son ~5 months ago. Unsure what it is, who to talk to, or what to do. [more inside]
I'm a bit of an etiquette buff. Not that I follow all the rules, but I'm intrigued by what "the rules" are. I was wondering though if there were etiquette books or blogs that address really modern issues. [more inside]

I'm trying to figure out why my great-great-grandparents told the 1900 US census they were from Denmark, when really they were from Sweden. Would there have been some reason for the lie at that time? [more inside]
Sometime yesterday, something changed with my hover-over text in Chrome, where while it used to bring up the attributes wherever my curser was, now if displays them instead at the top of my screen. I don't know WHY I hate this, I just know that I want to change it back and can't discern how. Macbook Air running Yosemite. Thanks!

I have a magento website with urls like example.com/name-of-product.html and those work fine. But example.com/index.php/name-of-product.html The site owner's seo guy wants it fixed so only example.com/name-of-product.html works. So I went into the .htaccess file to make the change and it didn't work. [more inside]
I'm looking for a play I read years ago, about a girl (a maid in a household?) experiencing religious visions. It's probably but not definitely Irish. [more inside]
I'm looking for a hotel in DC that is within walking distance of some cool attractions for a visit in May. I'd like something reasonably nice, but I'd prefer to stay below $400 a night. The ones I've found so far that look good to me are Kimpton Hotel Monaco, Hotel Lombardy, or the Mandarin Oriental (a little out of my range, but I'm flexible if it's considered awesome for the price. Any Mefites know the DC hotel scene intimately?
What is the sludge draining out of my front-loading washing machine? [more inside]
I was taking a walk and found that somebody had left four bags of women's clothing on the curb labeled "FREE CLOTHES" alongside a futon also presumably free. The road is kind of off to the side, and doesn't get that much foot traffic by nyc standards. I want to report this find in a way, to make it more likely that it will go to somebody who could make use of it. Is this a good idea? If it is, what would be a good way to do so? Have considered craigslist, FB neighborhood post, freecycle forum(?). [more inside]
I coordinate an event that requires a handful of volunteers and different time slots and tasks. I need to find an idiot-proof online source that allows me to post a link to it and people can then sign up for different slots. [more inside]

I am the sleeping equivalent of the princess and the pea. My partner is a restless sleeper. For years, we've solved this problem by pushing two ikea twin beds together. As a gift to ourselves, we just bought a beautiful bed. Popped our two mattresses in....and discovered that the motion transfer problems have returned. Much sadness and gnashing of teeth has ensued. Please help! Details inside. [more inside]
My wife's grandfather just passed. I asked for an address where to send a mass card, and she had no idea what I was talking about. I thought this was a common thing to send to the family of the deceased. Some further investigation revealed that mass cards are a strictly Catholic thing, and not all Christian religions use them. My wife's parents attend a United Methodist church, so I figure it is safe to assume that is their religion. So what do United Methodists do for funerals?
I work with many trans clients, but I am cis. Is it inappropriate for me to list my preferred gender pronouns on my email signature, like many of my trans friends, colleagues and clients do? I think that it is a good way to indicate to new clients that I am trans friendly, but is it appropriative? Thanks!
I am buying a house and trying to decide between two neighborhoods. Help me decide! [more inside]
I had a granite counter installed in my kitchen last week. It is white with black and gray and brownish streaks, but on the lighter side overall. OMG, it is so pretty, and I feel incredibly classy now. But it keep changing color. [more inside]

Can you recommend novels in which one character betraying another is a significant plot point but that betrayal is not an affair? We are so used to thinking of betrayal in that particular setting, but I'd like to read stories about other types of betrayals.
I am 9 weeks pregnant. I started having some bleeding and cramping, and it freaked me out entirely because I had a miscarriage before. I took a xanax (that I have in reserve for anxiety attacks, and almost never take). Then I found out that xanax is a schedule D drug for pregnancy (not recommended). Should I tell my doctor? Can I get it out of my system? I took it about an hour ago. [more inside]
I fell 2 1/2 months ago, badly hitting my shin, just below the knee. It left me unable to kneel or crawl on it, due to a very sore tender spot there, which can be felt when the knee is bent. Once she saw there was no fracture on an x-ray, my doctor (GP) was uninterested. By sheer bad luck, I fell again a fortnight ago and hit the same spot. What has happened? Why does it take so long to heal? Is it worth paying to go to a physiotherapist? [more inside]
After reading this WSJ article about two types of responders to the work-life balance (the "integrators" who mix up work time and home time, and the "separators" who try to draw a line between the two), I realize that I fall firmly into the first camp. I often write emails at midnight or later, after the kids are asleep and the house is quiet. But is this unfair to the recipients of my late-night messages? [more inside]

I have lived in Saint Louis for over 10 years; my wife for 11. Neither of us are natives (so That Question has no bearing on our lives). She is in the running for a job in Independence, MO, and yes, I am gun-jumping here, but I think it's worthwhile to start gathering information about potentially living in KC. [more inside]

My husband completely shuts down when I talk to him about problems I'm having at work. This is the only topic of conversation that he automatically shuts down, in two minutes or fewer. It has been ongoing, and I feel like I have to lie and say work is "fine" when he asks, or just swallow up my negative feelings. What's going on here? [more inside]

I recently came across the Bad Apple String Band, an awesome Sonoma-based bluegrass band. What I like about their particular flavour of bluegrass (if this is in fact bluegrass, I'm far from knowledgeable about this) is how complicated and frantic it is, while still being minor key and kind of melancholy. In particular, I like the song "Countin' Cards". Can you help me find similar music?
I'm in Vienna for the week, the weather's great, and I've been to all the museums before, so I was thinking it was high time for a hike in the Vienna woods. Can anyone with first-hand experience of that area recommend a particular hike or day trip? I've done a little Googling but I'm looking to supplement it with up-to-date personal advice. [more inside]
I need a quarter sheet pan (~9x13 inches) for cooking (not baking) at 350-450 F, 4-5 times a week. I have used 5 different Teflon-coated pans in the last year, and the Teflon on each has started to flake off in about 4 to 8 weeks. I don't want to eat Teflon. I'm careful with utensils and cleaning materials -- I don't use anything metal. I'm open to any type of material, non-stick or not, as long as it is easy to clean. Hit me with specific recommendations. [more inside]
I'm performing in a revue at my school in a week and a half; I'm going to be singing a real knockout of a song. I want to look just as amazing as I'll sound. I'm a size 18. Where should I shop this weekend to find my drop dead gorgeous dress? Physical stores preferred. [more inside]

I'll be accompanying a group of college students to a conference in New Orleans later in the week, and we're looking at going out to dinner Thursday night. Where should we go? We need somewhere on the cheaper side, maybe $15 max for entrees, with cheaper options available if they just want something small. Easy access from canal or the convention center area, and easy seating for around 12. [more inside]

I found out recently that I was diagnosed with a developmental disorder when I was young, but was not told about it until I was an adult. It's still affecting my life, and I want to find my medical records from that time in order to have a better understanding of myself and the condition. I'm having some trouble there, specifically in finding the doctors. [more inside]

I just sold a Verizon iPhone on Swappa much more quickly than I thought I would. I shipped it today and the buyer should receive it tomorrow (Tuesday). I have done this before, but only when I had another phone to activate in its place. However, this time, I will not have the new phone until this Thursday. My question is this: If I have not deactivated the phone I sold and activated the new one, what will happen when the buyer tries to activate the phone I just told to him, which is currently active on my account? "Who DOES that?!"-Filter: we were given two ducklings. We do not WANT two ducklings. We cannot give them back to the (insane) duckling-giver. We have two young-ish kids who are delighted by the ducklings, so we can't just, I don't know, feed them to a local fox like fluffy little Triscuits. WHAT NOW? [more inside]
I had hotmail (and only hotmail - no other accounts I would've been able to give hotmail for recovery purposes) when I was like 12 years old or something. I naturally moved on to Gmail when it came out. How on Earth can I get back into this account not knowing my password at all? Something super important I realized is most likely in that account. Thank you!
