I waited too long to try to book my trip to the Yosemite area, and now the only accommodations I can find are in places that are 90 minutes' drive from Yosemite Valley. Is that going to suck? Should I give up and go somewhere else instead? [more inside]
I have about 100 tampons that got wet under the sink sometime in the past five hours. They're not exactly soaked, but they're all decidedly damp (wrapped in paper), and the cardboard applicators kind of collapse if pushed on. Is it safe to use them if they can be dried out? If so, how best to quickly & thoroughly dry them out? [more inside]
Aside from Abe Lincoln, who else is on this t-shirt?
I've planted a few vegetables in containers outside (I'm in NY if that matters). I used sta-green potting soil, which claims to have up to 9 months of slow release fertilizer. I bought some miracle-gro liquid fertilizer, but I'm not sure if that would be too much in addition to what's in the potting mix? If not, when would you suggest to start adding the miracle gro? What if your abusive parent is not classically abusive (hitting, molestation, explosive anger) but is relentlessly narcissistic, negligent, exploitative and manipulative? Father's Day is coming up in a couple of months; should I just not send that card and silently pull away? I've already not given him my new number so this would be the last nail in the coffin. Can you name a poem for me? I read it in 1993 or '94, I think in the Atlantic. It told a very disturbing story from the Balkan wars. (cw: violence against children) [more inside]
So just recently one of my favorite authentic Mexican food places in the greater Minneapolis/Saint Paul metro area closed up shop. I left me with a yearning void in my heart I've yet to fill since then. [more inside]
Myself and my girlfriend will be in Seattle in September, hopefully stopping in Chicago for a day on the way back. As we're a little different, an interracial couple on the lookout for vegetarian or vegetarian friendly restaurants, I'm looking for information on travel and food to make the most of the trip. We're going to Australia this summer (late July-early August) and would prefer not to book rooms in advance, but will that be a disaster? [more inside]
I have a high pain tolerance and have had multiple root canals in the past with no problems. Tuesday I had a root canal with a temporary filling and on Thursday my jaw around that tooth started to hurt. I don't think it's infected (no swelling, no smell or visible problems, plus my endodontist said he packed the tooth with antibiotics). But it hurts, a lot. Help! [more inside]
Today my husband and I were rear-ended. The only visible damage is a bit of paint from her license plate on our bumper. (Though my husband thinks there could be other damage behind the bumper that we cannot see). [more inside]
Next week I will be in Rome with my girlfriend and I plan to propose, but I've never been so I have no idea where to try and make this happen. Looking for ideas! Some criteria inside. [more inside]
Harmonica hygiene filter: A few years ago I was given a beautiful Hohner Chromonica 280C. Stories of fungus buildup in reeds (and later becoming aware of certain facts about previous owners) led to doubts which always prevented me from using it. So, how hygienic is it actually? [more inside]
Husband's new friend recently met my best friend at a birthday party a few weeks ago, and tonight he messaged her to meet up. When she said she wasn't free that night, he said "ok. sorry for asking. F***. You." She blocked and deleted him, but sent me a pic of the conversation. How should we be dealing with this kind of assholery? [more inside]
I have a good friend who's asked me to co-sign on a loan for a house he wants to buy. YANM(RE)L. Help me think thru all the questions I should be asking a real estate lawyer...and myself! First - can you confirm that it's best to have 2 real estate lawyers, one to represent each person's interests? Or would one for both people be sufficient? Since it's spendy to get two lawyers we were considering just going with one who would create a simple agreement that keeps both people protected. [more inside]

I'm a guy and have this lovely female friend of mine who I get along with fantastically. The two of us have a supportive, companionable friendship, and are seeing each other frequently; we're both really enjoying the dynamic we've been having. For special snowflake reasons, though, it's better that I don't endeavor towards dating her for the meanwhile. Please give me your perspective: help me to manage my expectations to better maintain this friendship. [more inside]
A friend of mine is a former Methodist preacher who wants to become a carer support worker in England. He sees caring as an extension of ministry. He really wants to work, but getting him to put aside his faith to get the job is a suggestion he won't take. Are there Christian-centred care homes in England? How do I find them?
What breed of UK sheep is this? Any ideas? [more inside]
I need to learn how to create a training video. It needs to be able to capture what I am doing on my computer screen, while recording my accompanying dialog. I see these all the time on youtube, but I am unsure how to get started. Where can I find some free training, and/or what kind of software/equipment do I need? Thanks!
So there's a song that's been stuck in my head since about 1991, when I heard Alison Krauss (And Union Station) perform it. I heard her sing it a couple of times in that period, and never again. I'd love to know who wrote it, and if it's ever been recorded anywhere. I've tried googling the lyrics, to no avail. I'm not sure it matters, but I think they stopped playing this song around the time that Alison Brown left the band. [more inside]
My boyfriend just got diagnosed with Strep throat. His symptoms showed up Tuesday-Wednesday and I last saw him on Sunday. Now my throat hurts, but I'm also hungover. Should I get tested for strep? I'm paranoid because my tonsils are extremely reactive so when I get a throat infection it can get really really bad.
There are things that make me sad, and things that make me sad about being sad. For example, some things don't really merit a lot of sadness (especially when it is ill-informed or useless), but consistently and sincerely break my heart all the same... [more inside]
I am a man in his mid-30s, and I am probably not going to have children. I am okay with this, but the thought of having no connection whatsoever to the next generation is fairly upsetting to me for all sorts of reasons. To avoid that, I'd like to maintain an occasional correspondence (even if it's just one-way) with my friends' children. Most of my friends' children are currently infants. [more inside]

I was diagnosed with Crohn's colitis about five years ago. I've been on Asacol and Mercaptopurine for most of that time, with a few courses of prednisone for flares. There's now a prospect of my moving on to either Infliximab (Remicade) or Adalimumab (Humira); has anyone got experiences which shed light on the question of which I should choose? I understand that the former requires hospital visits for infusion, while the latter can be done by subcutaneous injection at home. I'm not needle phobic. This is the UK NHS so cost is not a factor.

To the law people out there: I work for a small company that recently signed up with a new health insurance company. For various reasons I declined the coverage, but I am getting bombarded by requests for personal information. Here's the actual latest message that I received after I informed them that I do not wish to participate: Hi C13, For any employees at Small Company to get health insurance, you need to complete your application. All employees must complete an application, regardless of whether accepting or waiving coverage. [more inside]

I just friggin' hate Slack, or at least what it is doing to my workday. I feel like I am losing an hour a day to watching ping-pong matches that I can't ignore because it will be hard to capture what's being discussed later (and/or people drop references to things they're asking me to do in the threads, sometimes without @mentions). The French embassy in my neck of the woods issued a statement basically saying that, due to an upcoming major event in one of the Schengen countries at the end of July, processing visas would take 10 days instead of the usual 2 days because said country had asked to vet the applicants first. This piqued my curiosity: what major event could that possibly be? I think it's not the Euro 2016 because that starts in June.
Desperately trying to find a techno / EDM song from the early 90's - all I can remember is a lyric that sounds something like: "skinny bumblebee", but kind of drawn out, like "ski-i-i-innnny bumblebee". High BPM dance song. Had it on a mix tape which is now lost to the sands of time.

My 11-year old daughter is an incredibly smart, straight-A student. She's in the gifted program, she scores in the 99th percentile on pretty much every standardized test, she reads at a 12th grade level. She has a gift for coding and she makes her own apps. She also has sensory processing disorder, which results in hide-in-a-corner-and-cry meltdowns. [more inside]

I'm looking at a new car purchase and have noticed that the "better" headlights (HID or LED) are typically only available on the highest trim level or with an options package that includes a bunch of other features that I'm a lot less interested in. Can you share any best practices for working with vendors? We bought a older house that needed some work about five months ago and it's been a frustrating process. Countless contractors and other home repair folks have come through the house. I'd say about 3/4 never follow-up with an estimate (unless prompted repeatedly). [more inside]
