Where did I read about bombs being unmade in reverse and buried?

I recently read a brief passage (maybe a page) where someone has a dream or a vision or just the thought of the whole process of making bombs running in reverse, so that ruined cities are brought together, bombs are taken to factories, dismantled, and the raw materials buried in the ground. Anyone recognize where this if from?

How should I decide whether to have my wisdom teeth removed or not?

My dentist says they should come out because they will eventually rot and worse, allow decay on my second molars. My surgeon says that while there is decay on one of the wisdom teeth, there is actually a tendency for older people to get fewer cavities. I am having trouble processing this and other information. How do I decide? What other data and information should I collect? [more inside]

Where to stay for a week in Montreal?

Would like to know reason for front end mis-alignment on old rav4

Four new tires were installed last June; i.e., june of 2012. A month later mechanic noticed that the front control arms were rusted; they were replaced with new ones. Today brought in for miscellaneous work. Mechanic observed that each front tire was badly worn and in need of replacement. The tires had about 12,000 miles on them; the rear ones were normal. Problem was toe-in misalignment of about .1 deg left side and .075 deg right. [more inside]

New Tumblr music player code?

Tumblr recently switched out their flash-based music player with a new, more mobile-friendly one. That's good, except the new one is devastatingly ugly and has totally different proportions. I'm not even sure it's displaying correctly - the arrow is off-center, the text looks wonky. I have been trying in vain to find ways of fiddling with its attributes, but the ones exposed are very limited. Has anyone else noticed this problem with the look, and has anyone had any success in customizing it? [more inside]

What is the point of street sweepers?

It seems to me that street sweepers don't "clean" a street - they just move dirt around. Do they suck up dirt somehow? Or is the point of them that they raise up ground-in dirt so that it can be washed away by rain later? Really, what is the point of them?

Give me your sure-fire tips for saving money for my quarterly taxes.

Mr Terrier and I meet with our accountant in 40 minutes. Around July of 2012 I fell off the filing-taxes-quarterly wagon. My goal has been (and still is) to squirrel away $200 per week. Please help us rid new house of mystery stank

We just bought a new house, yay! It's in suburban NC, less than 3 years old. Starting today, my husband and I noticed a strong musty smell in the front entryway. There is a guest bathroom and a home office just beyond this foyer, but those rooms smell fine to me. The floors are hardwood, no rugs down yet. There is an air vent directly overhead as you enter the house. Could that vent (pushing out a/c for the first time since move-in, now that weather is warm) be the source of the funky smell? If yes, why?? And how do we get rid of it?

Help me transcode video for my PS3

I've got home video in a number of formats that I'm trying to convert to play on my PS3. I have a Very Large NAS with integrated UPnP server (a version of Twonky), so I'm not looking for a new way to stream the data. I've got Handbrake 0.9.8 for OS X, which doesn't (appear to) have a preset for the PS3. I've dug around a little bit, but every set of settings I've found either results in data the PS3 won't read, or video that's more artifacted than I expected (common symptom - horizontal striping when things move). Anyone have a good set of parameters to transcode to something the PS3 can use?

My paws are a disgrace. How to get lady hands?

My hands are a mess due to neglect. Dry, flaky and raggedy cuticles. I don't have spare cash or time for regular manicures - think my last one was 2 years ago. Can you recommend a good hand cream or oil that will get rid of my scales, soothe my cuticles and maybe even strengthen my peeling nails? My skin can be sensitive so nothing too perfumed but I like fancy toiletries so nothing too basic either, and I don't have time to make my own. Sunscreen would be a bonus. I'm in the UK so something available here or that ships to here. And preferably something that will fit in my handbag, or comes in full size and travel sized versions. I thank you.

Good bank in Washington State

I'm looking to set up a personal account in a local bank in Washington state. Help me decide on a DDR metal dance pad

(No I can't build my own pad at this time, graduate school). I've found two dealers that sells hard / metal DDR pads from Poland: maty-taneczne.pl and rd.sokolka.com. They seem to be the only / one of the few reputable dealers out there that sell DDR pads for home use that aren't generally crap. Can you post here with reviews of their merchandise if you've purchased from them? Looking for outdoor photo shoot location in NYC, Brooklyn preferred

I'm starting an online clothing store and am hoping to put together a spring lookbook in two weeks. We're trying to find someplace pretty, like a park or community garden, where it won't cost us to shoot. It would also be nice if we didn't have to get a permit. Brooklyn is preferred, but we're open to anywhere it's easy to reach by subway. It's probably going to be 4 people (the photographer, the model, the makeup artist, and me). Equipment will include the camera, tripod, possibly a pop-up changing station, a rack of clothes, and possibly reflectors. Suggestions for locations would be much appreciated!
