Can I See Half Dome From The House?....

I waited too long to try to book my trip to the Yosemite area, and now the only accommodations I can find are in places that are 90 minutes' drive from Yosemite Valley. Is that going to suck? Should I give up and go somewhere else instead? [more inside]

Can I still use these? Tampon edition.

I have about 100 tampons that got wet under the sink sometime in the past five hours. They're not exactly soaked, but they're all decidedly damp (wrapped in paper), and the cardboard applicators kind of collapse if pushed on. Is it safe to use them if they can be dried out? If so, how best to quickly & thoroughly dry them out? [more inside]

If and when to fertilize pre-fertilized potting soil

I've planted a few vegetables in containers outside (I'm in NY if that matters). I used sta-green potting soil, which claims to have up to 9 months of slow release fertilizer. I bought some miracle-gro liquid fertilizer, but I'm not sure if that would be too much in addition to what's in the potting mix? If not, when would you suggest to start adding the miracle gro? Should you disown a narcissistic parent?

What if your abusive parent is not classically abusive (hitting, molestation, explosive anger) but is relentlessly narcissistic, negligent, exploitative and manipulative? Father's Day is coming up in a couple of months; should I just not send that card and silently pull away? I've already not given him my new number so this would be the last nail in the coffin. I had a root canal Tuesday and am now traveling and in pain. Any advice?

I have a high pain tolerance and have had multiple root canals in the past with no problems. Tuesday I had a root canal with a temporary filling and on Thursday my jaw around that tooth started to hurt. I don't think it's infected (no swelling, no smell or visible problems, plus my endodontist said he packed the tooth with antibiotics). But it hurts, a lot. Help! [more inside]

What should I consider before co-signing on a house for a dear friend?

I have a good friend who's asked me to co-sign on a loan for a house he wants to buy. YANM(RE)L. Help me think thru all the questions I should be asking a real estate lawyer...and myself! First - can you confirm that it's best to have 2 real estate lawyers, one to represent each person's interests? Or would one for both people be sufficient? Since it's spendy to get two lawyers we were considering just going with one who would create a simple agreement that keeps both people protected. [more inside]

Healthily approaching close friendships with a bit of attraction in them

For special snowflake reasons, though, it's better that I don't endeavor towards dating her for the meanwhile. Please give me your perspective: help me to manage my expectations to better maintain this friendship. [more inside]

An earworm old enough to drink

So there's a song that's been stuck in my head since about 1991, when I heard Alison Krauss (And Union Station) perform it. I heard her sing it a couple of times in that period, and never again. I'd love to know who wrote it, and if it's ever been recorded anywhere. I've tried googling the lyrics, to no avail. I'm not sure it matters, but I think they stopped playing this song around the time that Alison Brown left the band. [more inside]

Would it be weird to write letters to my friends' kids?

I am a man in his mid-30s, and I am probably not going to have children. I am okay with this, but the thought of having no connection whatsoever to the next generation is fairly upsetting to me for all sorts of reasons. Infliximab (Remicade) or Adalimumab (Humira)?

I was diagnosed with Crohn's colitis about five years ago. I've been on Asacol and Mercaptopurine for most of that time, with a few courses of prednisone for flares. There's now a prospect of my moving on to either Infliximab (Remicade) or Adalimumab (Humira); has anyone got experiences which shed light on the question of which I should choose? I understand that the former requires hospital visits for infusion, while the latter can be done by subcutaneous injection at home. I'm not needle phobic. This is the UK NHS so cost is not a factor.

What is that major event in Europe at the end of July?

The French embassy in my neck of the woods issued a statement basically saying that, due to an upcoming major event in one of the Schengen countries at the end of July, processing visas would take 10 days instead of the usual 2 days because said country had asked to vet the applicants first. This piqued my curiosity: what major event could that possibly be? I think it's not the Euro 2016 because that starts in June.
