Childhood Book Set in Medieval Times

I read this book in the 1970s or possibly the early 1980s. The story is set in medieval times, the main character is a girl and it has to do with damask roses (breeding or raising them?). There's more too it of course, but that's all I remember. The book was a paperback and the cover had a full colour drawing of the girl on the front standing by some roses. I believe she's wearing a rose coloured cotehardie or something similar. A rock wall or well may have also been in the background of the cover.

Would a cheap one from wal-mart would work? I mean all the car seats in the market has to meet the current safety standards, right? I went through most of the old AskMeFi thread, but if there's one you particularly like, please do link.

Mac unzip/unrar software with preview?

Is there unZIPping/unRARing software for the Mac that allows you to see what's inside of an archive file without extraction? Seems like double-clicking on archives with any software I've used immediately extracts the files within. I'd like to be able to preview those files first, and perhaps selectively extract, or not extract at all.

Bike Racks - Double Fare?

Star Trek on Blu-Ray

I'm looking to buy blu-ray versions of all of the Star Trek movies. Problem is, I just want high-quality versions of the VHS tapes I had as a kid in the 80s and 90s (because really, most of the allure is nostalgia here). I don't want director's cuts, special versions, or anything like that- just the original VHS releases. Amazon is confusing the hell out of me, because there are about 40 versions of each movie and I'm not sure what is what. Does anyone have a link to the original movies, for sale, on blu-ray?

How did Roman Polanski direct scenes shot in America in Ghost Writer

In what sense was Roman Polanski the director of "Ghost Writer"? I see in his wikipedia article that he has been unable to visit many countries because he would be deported to America to face rape charges. I just watched the movie and was clear to me that a lot of stuff was shot in America; the IMDB indeed lists Germany and the UK as locations, but also Massachusetts. How did he direct those scenes from across the ocean? And..when was this all shot? Apparently Polanski had been under house arrest in Switzerland in 2009. Maybe I just don't totally grok the job of a director, but I don't see how he could have directed the scenes in America. Nobody else is listed on the credits as a director. Was there a Ghost director involved?

Am I overdoing my RAM for a 32 bit version of Windows 7 Pro

I have a HP Pavilion dv6700 (dv6780se) laptop which i recently upgraded to Windows 7 pro via a free copy from the msdn alliance. I am currently running 3 gigs of physical RAM in 2 slots. I recently read an article suggesting a change to the virtual memory paging file size. From what i gathered you should or can increase the size by multiplying the current amount times 1.5. This would change my total virtual memory to 4605, is this wise? Should i leave it on the save hard drive has my OS or move it to a partition or separate external hard drive? I've also read that readyboost can increase performance... is this still quite debatable for Windows 7 and am I already pushing the limits of my RAM and virtual memory?

Was Wernher von Braun asked "How does it feel to be aiming rockets at the moon rather than London?"?

I was told a possible apocryphal story by my father, that at a press conference about the Apollo missions a British reporter stood up and asked Wernher von Braun something like "How does it feel to be aiming rockets at the moon rather than London?", at which von Braun stormed out. Googling has failed me. Did this happen? If not, is there a likely source for it?

How do I move one chair from Ottawa to Montreal?

I have a large living room chair that I need to transport from Ottawa to my apartment in Montreal in the next week or so. "Moving" or "Furniture moving" is a mess in Google, and most of the Craigslist and Kijiji entries are focused on a full house/apartment moving service. Does anyone know what is the best and most economical way to do this? One option would be to rent a van here in Montreal and use it to bring the chair here. I would prefer an approach that wasn't so time-consuming on my part. Thoughts?

Frustration leads to anger, anger leads to shame, lather, rinse, repeat

I've lived in Japan for some time now, but I'm not very good at the language. When I encounter anything beyond the simple, and I don't understand what's going on, I feel frustrated, then angry, then ashamed, which undermines any confidence I have to speak the language, which makes it less likely that I'll do better the next time.
