Kids, I can feel the spring coming up in my finger.

I fractured my right index finger about 9 months ago when a table-saw kicked a small square of plywood at high velocity into the end of the 'metacarpal' near the first joint. I taped it up and after about six weeks it felt basically normal. It is straight and I have full mobility however, with the coming of spring, it has started to ache, sometimes distractlingly so... so what's going on?

Irish Songbook

I'd like to sing some good Irish songs with a bunch of kids (I play the guitar) to have them learn something about Irish culture. Could you point at some meaningful, beautiful, traditional Irish songs ? (Tabs, melody, lyrics and background resources welcomed).

Repair of cracked brass

I have a brass gas line manifold for a draft beer system that has developed a hairline crack. To fix it, I'm contemplating one of the following: (a) fill/wick with solder using a plumber's propane torch; (b) JB Weld epoxy; or (c) asking a friend to weld it (hi MrMoonPie!). Thoughts?

"How old is your dog?"

"How old is your dog?" I recently adopted a pit bull. In the couple of weeks since she was adopted, I have had no less than 5 guys on the street ask how old she is. They always ask only that question, and have no further questions or comments or anything. What's up with that? Possibly related: I live in a part of DC where dog fighting happens.

Hypothetically speaking...does this work on cops?

Hypothetically...on some police shows and movies, there are scenes where the police are questioning some person, usually a "known" crook. The crook is smart enough to not provide any info, but is coerced into being helpful, and instead of telling what he knows, insists that all the info he's providing is "hypothetical." e.g. "hypothetically, if so and so wanted to rob the bank, he would've done A, B, C." Does insisting that what you're saying is "hypothetical" really work in real life to stop law enforcement from using what you say against you?

laundry room etiquette

When using a shared laundry room if someone puts a basket with clothes and whatnot in front of the washer you are using do you have to let them have the next wash even if you are not finished with all of your laundry? What if your other loads are in the apartment and therefore not visible to the person? Is it even polite to set your basket down like that? What if there are very few washers? Or only one? I googled all around to try and find a satisfactory answer to this but I am not finding it, so I am asking for a collection of opinions!

Mediterranean holiday ideas...

So, my father, sister and I are planning a trip to Europe in mid-June. We need to work out quite where. I need to be able to fly in from London, the others to train or fly to wherever from Lyon. We need to go somewhere where we can stay for about 6 days, and there will be enough to entertain us there or in nearby town. I was wondering about Malta, my sister thought Genoa, my father thought St Tropez (our budget is not endless so perhaps not) Any suggestions?
