lost my soul-mate job, no others?

Has anyone ever lost their ideal job and felt like their was nothing else they wanted to do? I lost my job and I don't feel like their are any other jobs for me. The job I had was creative and not too difficult. Most other jobs seem uninteresting to me or too difficult. [more inside]

New York (Bronx) Hotels

New York Hotels. I need to travel to New York at short notice for family reasons. For the same family reasons, our customary free downtown digs are not available. Are there any reasonable and reasonably priced hotels in the Riverdale area of the Bronx, near Henry Hudson & 238 St? Any other reasonable options between there and downtown would also be OK. Any suggestions welcome, thanks.

PS3 has turned so ugly

PlayStation 3 firmware update 3.0 is truly a pile. Font size is ginormous on my 42" LCD (akin to going from 1024x768 to 640x480), icons are shilling for the PlayStation Network in every menu and there's a hideous update bar in the upper right-hand corner I can't figure out how to turn off. I wish I hadn't taken the plunge -- if you haven't, don't do it! Does anyone have solutions to mitigate this nightmare, which has turned the menus of my console and home theatre box into a janky-looking POS?

Can't remember book title/author

I'm looking for a book I read in year 6 (1995), and I loved, but can't remember much about it. I think it was "world of O", or "secret of O", or something along those lines, but searches on that don't come up with hits on Google or Amazon. I remember that on the cover, the O had a sinuous line through it (like the yin/yang symbol), and there was a bit where the guy was given special gloves and socks that allowed him to cling on to a sheer cliff face (might have been a deep hole instead, not sure). Does anyone recognise this book? Help appreciated :)
