Thanks or Thank You

I work the front desk at my parent's hotel and we are having a dispute regarding the language and wording of a sign that we have recently put up. Is there a better way to word the following sign: "Busy Helping Another Guest, Back in a Minute. Thanks." ? [more inside]

How do I navigate racial politics with my family before our transracial adoption?

When I was childless, my parents' right-wing politics were pretty easy to ignore. Whatever, we're different, they are entitled to their opinions. But now that I have a small child, and we are about to adopt transracially, things are beginning to get tense for me. [more inside]

sharing writing studio space

I own two homes, and am developing a shared writer/quiet artist studio space in one of my empty apartments. I will be using it along with 3-4 others. Do users of creative studio spaces have advice on how we can smoothly operate? Any examples of ground rules, chore charts, etc. would be appreciated.

How to get an xml file (online calendar feed) to auto update to iCal or any other calendar?

How can I sync an online calendar feed (xml) with either iCal or Google Calendar? I know I can sync iCal and gCalendar easily through several methods. But what I also need to include is my department's events calendar. I can import it as an iCal or Outlook file, but this is only a one-time option. Once the department's calendar is updated I don't receive the new or changed events. And I suspect if I import the (newer) file again, I will get many duplicates. The calendar has an xml feed I could subscribe to, but can't figure out how to translate this into a calendar that automatically syncs or updates. Willing to consider any options that would lead to the online calendar (.ics, .csv, or .xml file) being auto updated to any calendar application. This would make my life so much easier! Thanks!

Can I fix my cabinet hinge, or do I need to replace it?

The hinge on our kitchen cabinets has come apart, and I don't know if I can repair it. Replacement is only $6 or so, but I'll have to wait on delivery. It's a salice hinge, and there are 2 pieces, one on the door and one on the cabinet. There's some linkage that hooks the two pieces together, but I didn't install them so I have no idea how they fit together. Here is a picture of a similar hinge, with an annotation of where the separation has happened. Anyone familiar with salice hinges? Anything I can do, or should I just replace and be done?

Death of attraction? Hopefully not...

Not really sure how to let this out to my college counselor. In February of this year, I came out to my mom and brother. Things were better than I thought they would turn out to be. A couple of month later, my Dad somehow got the impression that we were all hiding something from him and as such, coerced me to tell him what was going on. I told him. He was somewhat judgmental of me and I completely stopped talking to him about these topics. Ever since that, I've been worried about how my future decisions will affect my relationship with my parents. [more inside]

Needed: Post-Summertime Eligible Dependent Care Expense Ideas

YNMA, obviously... wife and I overestimated our dependent care expenses this year...by a lot. I have to come up with valid expenses, for the remainder of 2010, that we can occur to cover 3K remaining in our account. Any ideas? We did the camp thing this summer, but ended up not signing up for a few of them from our original budget. Our son is in kindergarten at a private school, so we're past the time we can pay for tuition out of this account. PLEASE HELP!!!! Thanks mefite nation!!!

Who wrote/published/owns the "Piracy, It's a Crime" music?

Does anyone know the musician, composer, label, publishing company or licensing agency responsible for the music on the Piracy, It's a Crime advert? This is, ironically, so we can clear a sample for use in a fairly high profile UK music release. We've cleared all the other samples for this record, but we're drawing a blank on who to ask for this piece. Any pointers or clues, however slim or however many steps away from the people who can give us permission to use this music, are extremely welcome.
