Looking for job experiences involving human factors or education that will help me decide which field of study to pursue.

Am I ruining my drip machine?

I make my morning coffee in a French press, but then I keep it hot by pouring it into the carafe of my drip machine while it's switched on. Is this somehow going to damage my coffee maker if I don't have any water in the reservoir? I just want the hot plate to keep it warm. Relevant info: I have the Michael Graves coffee maker from Target.

Please recommend a reliable midsize motorcycle.

Will some of Ask's motorcycle gang please being me up to speed on the availability of a particular kind of bike? I'm looking for an around-town middleweight like the Triumph 650 I rode in college but I'm looking first of all for capital-R Reliability. I do want adequate performance, for situations like matching the speed of oncoming traffic in a short merging lane, but I'm not looking for performance of the wheelie pulling, eyeball flattening kind. What I don't want is any more experience sitting in an ever-spreading Triumph/BSA/Norton pool of oil setting valve train tolerances, after having just set them two days ago. Had enough of that to last a lifetime, thanks. [more inside]

Advice on the best oven / microwave combo? Thoughts on the Neff H5972N0GB?

In our kitchen remodelling plans, there is no space for a microwave so we're thinking of a built-in combo. That is, an oven that also works as a microwave. Which? gives the Neff H5972N0GB a good rating but I wanted a second opinion by the Metafilter Braintrust :)

Help me find this great science fiction novel, please

Bookfilter: In 2007 I read the first part of a science fiction novel that I would really love to find again. Federal Job Resume Builders

Has anyone used a professional resume service for US Federal jobs? I've seen previous mefi postings, but they seem to focus on the more creative aspects of resume writing. The Feds don't care about style; they will have a bureaucrat go through and tick off the boxes and give you a score. And having worked for Civil Services before, I know that what I think is relevant doesn't always fit the 'box' unless it's phrased just right. I'm looking at Federal Jobs Digest, and they charge $200 to $300. And I should say there's an assignment I really, really want (an overseas posting in Naples), so I can spend the money if these guys are legit.

Driving from MA to MT, suggestions for stops along the way

Recently divorced, 39, and moving from MA to MT in early Sept. I was planning on driving along the I-90. I'm trying to figure out what is worth visiting, and also where to stop/camp along the way. This is about a 3000 mile drive. And I'm hoping to drive around 600 miles a day, but this is adjustable to some extent. I wouldn't mind spending extra days in some locations if its worthwhile. One stop I plan to make will be Niagra Falls. (I also have both USA and Canadian Passports, so I can cross the border ok.) I hope to camp most of the way. I also have a large 80lb doberman-mix, which complicates things slightly. I'd be willing to get off the I-90 to see some things if its worth it. I'm not in a rush.. I'm more interested in things found in nature rather than city-life type stuff. But stopping in some big cities for some notable food or sites wouldn't be rejected outright.

Video of high-def photo-overlay technology

Looking for a video of a technology demo, which uses high-def photos to add details to video by intelligently overlaying the photo on the video and deforming the photos as the video moves.
