The Fungus Blob versus the Weeping Fig

I replanted my indoor ficus benjimana/weeping fig about two weeks ago, putting it into a much larger pot, and using some Home Depot gardening soil. A few days ago, a thin-foam-like, white substance appeared over portions of the soil. Today, I notice I have large, blobby, mushy, fungus-looking things growing on the top of the soil. The tree, however, looks fine. What is this gross stuff, and should I do anything about it? [more inside]

Tap water question

This morning while cleaning the crock pot, I noticed that the baking soda I was using was foaming up, as if i had added an acid like vinegar. So, I poured some baking soda in a clean bowl, to see if it was the water. It foamed! Is there a reason my tap water would be so acid? The only thing I found on the internet was a vague suggestion the chlorine can cause acidity in the water. [more inside]

Emergency trade show display in Las Vegas by Tuesday morning? My colleagues just went to Las Vegas for an important trade show. We had a lovely display background made for our booth - a Skyline Mirage. Unfortunately, our guys forgot to take the display on the plane! :/ We need the booth to be ready by noon on Tuesday. Where do bootleg concert shirts come from?

I saw Pearl Jam the other night in Boston (incredible show!), and as we spent 45 minutes waiting to get out of the garage, we saw the bootleg shirt sellers drop prices to the point that one guy just gave them away. How to swap caregiving chores

Elderly father-in-law is coming to live with us (my husband and me). Sister caring for our elderly mother, lives nearby. Sister is fabulous cook, and likes to cook. I hate cooking, and always eat out. Elderly father-in-law's presence will end that. Sister and I want to swap chores, doing for each other what we're good at and like to do. How in the world can I compensate her for cooking for us? Besides buying the food. I can do the shopping, and even pay for the food, but what else? My only talents are hand sewing, crocheting, making quilts. Has anyone done this community type of thing? Any suggestions?

Is Windows 7 the next XP?

I'm an advanced computer user and would like to know how Windows 7 compares with XP Pro. I'm clinging to the latter like Dagon to an emaciated villager but I know the time will come when I'll have to move on. Basic info about install size, resource hogging, software compatibility (particularly MS Office versions) and tweakability in terms of Windows' always annoying "security" functions will be greatly appreciated. I have tried Vista, only to run away from it screaming. I'll be sitting round the fire in the trashcan, looking forward to reading your thoughts.

Password recovery or doom?!?

PasswordBuffooneryFilter: I've had a Hotmail account for eons, don't use it a ton, get a couple things sent there on an ongoing basis. Had the password stored via Firefox and it has disappeared from the remember-password feature. It's been long enough that I don't remember the password-recovery info (favorite pet, etc.) and I didn't register an alternate e-mail (that they would use to send me the means to access the account). Based on the Microsoft info I've slogged through and Internet searches, it seems I'm sunk. Or am I?? Much gratitude for any help folks can provide.
