Guys, what is that website or blog that is posting an old letter every day? I think they're all letters from famous or notable people. It's been mentioned in various media and around the web (though not, it seems, on MeFi), but I didn't note the name of it at the time, and Googling is not getting me anywhere. Ring any bells? I would love to be able to cite it for a research project.

Help me visualize CO2 pollution. When we say we're spewing "tons of carbon" into the air, what does that look like? What does it mean when you measure a gas in tons? If I magically compressed a ton of carbon that's in the air to a density of, say, the graphite in pencil lead, what are the dimensions of that brick of carbon?

I've got two huskies, a black lab, one long haired cat, and two short haired cats living in my house. And I'm drowning in fur. The Dirt Devil Vision I bought two years ago has never worked decently. So I need recommendations for an affordable vacuum cleaner that can handle a ton of fur and relatively new carpet that's still shedding a bit. I can borrow my grandma's Dyson once or twice a month for superawesome vacuum times, but I also need something I can use a few times a week just to get the majority of the fur off the carpet. Difficulty: Under $150.
Calling All Opera Buffs: My darling husband absolutely adores Prince Igor (Alexander Borodin et al), but he's never experienced it on stage. He has a milestone birthday coming up and I would like to take him to a performance, regardless of where it might be: anywhere in the world is just fine. Metafilter opera buffs, do you know of any current or planned productions by a reputable opera company? Is there an information clearinghouse on opera productions I could consult if I need an alternative or can't pull this off soon? Thanks so much.
Mrs. MiamiDave and I are Amtrakking to NYC for our 25th Anniversary this June. We'll be in town for an evening (arrive 7 PM), an entire day, and a morning (depart 11 AM). The cost of the room and Phantom are included. The hotel is about 1.5 miles from the Amtrak station. About how much money should we budget for cab fares to/from hotel and theater, perhaps a Grey Line/Circle Line tour, and a couple of dinners at mid-range restaurants? To set parameters, in Miami we'd consider $150 for dinner and a bottle of Piesporter an expensive evening.

Thanks!
