What to do in San Francisco next week

I'll be in San Francisco next week the 17th through the 21st (hopefully) raising some capital for my startup company. While I'm in the Bay area I'd like to attend some startup/tech related informal meetups or unconferences. Is there a good event calendar for this sort of thing? I've found a few listings but not anything that's exhaustive.

We need music for our office.

Help me find music for our office that isn't TOO boring. My husband is a home builder and his office is one of the upscale homes he has built. We want to play music through the surround sound system that is "appropriate" to a professional atmosphere in which the public will visit. Right now I have some Michael Buble, some bossa nova, some Three Tenors. Can you guys suggest something upbeat and not too Muzac-y? Thanks.

What has Roger Ebert discovered about "Cache"?

In a new essay on the film Cache, Roger Ebert says he has discovered a "smoking gun" that may explain the film's mystery. He says it occurs at around 20:39 on the DVD. Can somebody with access to the DVD tell me what is there? (For anybody who hasn't seen this film, Ebert's essay contains some spoilers--as (I hope!) will this thread.)

Basement seeks cleaner

AlasPoorBasementFilter: My basement...could be cleaner. Unfortunately, I'm not strong enough to budge the appliances to clean behind them (or get to the stuff over them). Googling and Craigslisting are, so far, not turning up individuals/businesses who would be happy to clean a dirty basement, as opposed to a dirty rest of the house. Are there any fellow Monroe County, NY area Mefites with suggestions? If you'd prefer to contact me privately, feel free to use the e-mail address in my profile, or memail.

Laid off while on leave, denied unemployment in California...

(Asking for a friend). My friend was laid off from his salaried job in California last year (employer ran out of money, usual story). Ableton Live in two days of piddling around?

Ableton Live for beginners: This weekend I'm going to have a couple of days where I get to play with someone's copy of Live, which looks like a very cool piece of software. I'm hoping to make the most of this chance but (a) the last time I made electronic music I programmed SID registers by hand in 6510 assembler in the 80s, and (b) don't know diddly about Live, oh yes, and (c) I don't know diddly about music, either. Is there a decent guide -- in print or online -- that would help me sit down in front of the thing and maybe plink out a couple of really awful songs? [more inside]
