Entertain me in lower Manhattan!

I'll be in NYC for a couple of days for a conference, and will be free on Sunday and Monday evenings, starting at about 6 pm. I'm looking for suggestions of stuff to do in the evenings in lower Manhattan (I'm staying at the Downtown Marriott if that helps). So I'd love your suggestions for fun places to eat dinner, have drinks, enjoy dessert, or just stroll around at night for sightseeing or people-watching. I've already checked out these three questions on Ask MeFi, so if there's stuff in there that you think is worth checking out (or should be avoided), let me know. Thanks, NYC MeFites!

I have a buzz, and its the bad kind.

Yesterday, I bought a new Fender Squire Affinity Stratocaster (not the Fat Strat). Tonight, I noticed that the guitar has a noticeable buzz anytime there are less than two pickups on. So, when I have the front and middle or middle and bridge pickups activated, everything is fine. However, if I switch to the front, middle, or bridge pickup by itself, the buzz is there. Do you know the way from San Jose?

Heading to Milpitas Monday with my husband. Next Friday afternoon, we're planning to drive up to South Lake Tahoe, where we have a hotel, and then explore the Yosemite area Saturday and Sunday before driving back Sunday evening. Doable? Suggestions, recommendations? And what clothes should I bring--I want to pack one bag and get the most wear out of it for the entire week.

California eye roll

Planning our vacation to California for the end of August and looking for suggestions on what will impress our 16 y.o. son and 13 and 12 y.o. daughters. We'll fly in to LA and out San Francisco, or vice-versa, and rent a vehicle for the week. So far, Alcatraz and Universal are on the list, but I'm not sure what other plans to make. Is this proper new cat protocol or a cruel kitty quarantine?

Beach and casino in August?

Yay! I'm going on vacation with my amazing awesome brother! Neither of us have done something like this before and we don't really know where to start. We want to travel the first week in August, for 4-5 nights, from Washington DC. I want to be on the beach, but directly, walk outside the room onto the beach on the beach. He wants a good casino there or near by. We were thinking the Caribbean but are open to anything that's an easy flight. A cruise is also a possibility. Our budget is up to $2000 (flights + hotel + preferably food). Where have you been that was beautiful and relaxing and fun? Or else, how did you wade through the plethora of vacation/hotel sites to find exactly what you were looking for? Thank you!

Magical Email Signature to Address Book (Mac) Contact Convertor?

I am looking for a "Magical Email Signature to Address Book (Mac) Contact Convertor"? How to subsidize my internship?

Hi there, I'm currently a first-year Political Science major with a pre-law focus, and am very involved in my school's Mock Trial and pre-law fraternity. I've always wanted to work for The Innocence Project, and that's still my goal after graduation. Why is there a fireplace in a 7th day adventist lectern?

Last night, I attended a dress rehersal of a choir my daughter will be joining. It was at a 7th day adventist church and I noticed that the lectern had a (gas-burning) fireplace set into the front facing the pews. Does this have any religious significance or is it just a quirk of this church? The choir is just renting the space for practice, so they're not a good source for info.

Where can I find pasties in NYC for a mermaid costume?

I'm trying to put together a last minute costume for the Coney Island Mermaid Parade this Saturday, and need some pasties with tassels. Ideally I'm going for something somewhat classy in an old-school burlesque style, like this, but would also settle for something basic like this, that I could decorate at home with sparkly glitter and whatnot. Because of the timing I can't shop online, so need to find a store in NYC (preferably Manhattan or Brooklyn). Any ideas, metafilter? Thanks!!
