How do I watch the ball drop without a TV?

I am throwing a small New Year's Eve party, and would like to be able to show the ball dropping in Times Square -- and optionally more of the programing around that moment -- despite not having a television signal into my home. I've a large LCD monitor (42"), a laptop with an HDMI input into said TV, a Windows PC, and an XBox 360. What's the best way to go about setting something up for my guests and I to watch?

How to Benchmark Read/Write Speeds On My SD Card vs. My Hard Drive?

Is there a free and/or clever way to find out if the SD card plugged into my laptop is faster or slower than the laptop hard drive regarding read/write operations? I am running Windows Vista Home Premium. I'm wondering, for example, if the SD card would be a better scratch disk for Photoshop, and other apps that require non-RAM swap/scratch space. (I'm not intending to use ReadyBoost.)

Help me find a book I read once, ten or twelve years ago, and barely remember

I'm trying to find a book I read in high school and barely remember. It was a sort of magical realism thing titled, I think, "The Road to Foo" where "Foo" was pronounced by the teacher as "Thomas and Charlie" but was one slurred together word/place name in, I think, Spanish or Portuguese. But I am very, very bad at hearing phonetic differences and worse at spelling. And high school was a long time ago. I don't remember much about the book except there was an old man, probably senile, who goes on a last journey. And it was short. Can anyone tell me how to spell the damn title, so I can find it? Thanks.

conspiracy theory art

A while ago I read about an artist, then recently deceased, whose works consisted of the names of entities in popular conspiracy theories connected with graceful arcs (according as they were held to be in cahoots). Maybe it wasn't only conspiracy theories but also more legitimate political connections. I can't find his name or examples of his work online, and I would like to. Only you can help!

What song ends with "I'm getting closer to my woman"?

A few years ago my girlfriend and I were in a bar and heard a song -a late-'60s/early '70s blooze-rock number a la Bad Company or someone like that - which ended with a seemingly endless refrain comprised of the lead singer repeating "I'm getting closer to my woman." It's turned into an in-joke with us, and I'd like to put it on a mix for her, but endless Googling hasn't turned it up. Anyone have any idea what song it might be?

What *do* they use to cut grass in China?

AnswerAnOngoingFamilyArgument-Filter: My sister says one of her highschool history teachers mentioned in class a month or two ago that in China, people use scissors to cut their lawns instead of lawn mowers. Obviously, this is pretty crazy (right?), but my sister says that's what he said. Is there anything reasonable along these lines that could have been what he really said?
