IKEA budget, boutique hotel taste

Decorating a small flat in London on a budget without resorting to IKEA? I'm tired of having my place looking studenty and would like to pick up some nice, unique furnishings and accessories. I don't have a lot of space or money to work with, however. I know about Gumtree, but can you recommend some stores I can visit to get ideas as well as buy cool stuff? I live in W2 (which isn't exactly budget-friendly, I know.)

Books about successful outsiders or misfits

Can you recommend any books or other compendiums of bios of notable, successful people who were misfits or outsiders for much of their upbringing? A friend's teen daughter has always marched to her own drummer, but she is having an especially tough time right now and we'd like to give her some examples of positive role models. (The folks in the Apple "Think Different" campaign are the easy, obvious ones - we'd like something a bit more thoughtful and real.)

Can I get away with putting these "line dry" pants in the dryer?

LaundryFilter: I recently bought some stretch cotton pants. According to the label, stretch cotton is defined as c. 97-98% cotton, with the remainder being spandex. Unfortunately, that very same label informs me that I'm supposed to line dry these pants, which is enormously inconvenient for me. Could I get away with putting these through a few minutes in a regular dryer on the low dry/delicates setting or would that destroy the pants? [more inside]

Can a huge geothermal power plant cause an earthquake?

As I understand it, the 7.2 earthquake that hit Mexico last weekend had it's epicenter in Guadalupe Victoria, which is just a few miles from Cerro Prieto, a dormant volcano and the worlds largest Geothermal plant. Is there any scientific (not tinfoil hat) evidence that having a large scale Geothermal plant, doing whatever it is Geothermal plants specifically do, could lead to or worsen an earthquake? And if the volcano is dormant, how is the plant generating power? Does dormant just mean not spewing lava actively, but there is activity underneath? [more inside]

Postgraduate Reasearch Paper - The Neverending Story

I'm writing a postgrad research paper on Michael Ende's The Neverending Story. I'm keen to hear from anyone who has done any academic work on the novel, or those who have a personal interest in understanding aspects of the novel. Very little in terms of scholarly research exists on the topic to date . My particular focus is a Jungian analysis of archetypes within the novel. It's an introduction of sorts, a quick overview (10 000 words) of a topic I have the potential of working onto a longer thesis.
