Braise-then-roast pork butt: just zany enough to work, or just zany?

I've got a 3-lb boneless pork butt braising in the oven right now for pulled pork. The guy I bought it from at Whole Foods recommended that I roast it after braising to get a good crust. It sounded awesome at the time but now I'm losing my nerve - is this a recipe for deliciousness or sadness? [more inside]

I found it in WorldCat. Where is it in reality?

I'm doing some research on a recording made in New York in 1949. WorldCat has information on two photographs taken at the recording session, and a taped interview with the conductor. The trouble is that they have no information on any libraries that hold these items. What am I missing here? We have information that clearly came from someone looking at the photos and listening to the tape, but where are they? Thanks for any help. WorldCat links below the fold. [more inside]

How Do I Stop Text Messages Occurring on My Mac?

I recently upgraded my MacBook Air to Yosemite. Everything seems to be fine, except for the fact that my iPhones text messages now happen on my computer (I think this is the continuity feature?). Anyway, I want this to stop. Of course, I Googled it before I posted, here, but the fixes that I found, don't appear to be relevant (they were from 2014 and probably from Mavericks). For example, one fix suggested opening the Messages app on your Mac (which I did) and open the Preferences menu, which I don't see. Can anyone help me stop this?? Thanks!

Lasers- more effective than laying on hands?

80s movie about a kidnapping/road trip: What's the title?

I'm trying to remember the name of a movie I saw when I was young. It was the first movie I saw by myself at a theater so it must have been late 80s, and was probably rated PG. What I can remember of the plot (spoiler alert, I guess), a young boy is kidnapped by a much older man who takes him on the road. The boy is resistant at first but eventually forms a bond with his kidnapper, maybe seeing him as a father figure. The law eventually catches up with them and somehow they end up in the water (a lake?) where the kidnapper is wounded (shot?) and eventually, I assume, dies. That's all I've got. Any ideas? I'm sure it's NOT "A Perfect World", although the plot sounds similar.

I'm looking for book recommendations that will get me as close to an experience as reading Tolkein as possible. I haven't read much fantasy for at least 15 years, but I have a pretty good sense of what I like. I want: a huge world with an ancient mythology, as big a sense of history, language, culture, as possible. I don't want: much violence or thrilling action, I don't care much about characterization or story beats, or accessible writing.
