Gardeningfilter: name those plants...

Hi folks, a friend is looking to do some garden remodelling. She's seen a couple of plants she'd like and took photographs, but has no idea what they actually are. So, green-fingered members of the green, can you help? Images and snowflakes inside. [more inside]

That's a lot of soda bread...

By mistake my company has booked me double baggage allowance for my flight to Dublin for a conference, so I have a capacity of 46kg. I live in London. What kind of heavy yet-hard-to-get in the UK thing should I buy to make the most of this? My only thought was a case of whisky or possibly a very large amount of Guinness. I only have one free morning (Thursday), which is also the day I fly out. Is there anything I'm not thinking of?

Contemporary Devotional Songs for a Family Reunion

I will be attending my annual family reunion this weekend, and have been asked by family members to lead the devotional hymn. I play acoustic guitar and pick up songs by ear fairly easily, but I have no idea what I am looking for. I regularly attend church, and am familiar with many of the traditional hymns, but I am striking out on contemporary devotional songs with a focus on family gathering. It's a long shot, but anyone have suggestions?

Don't Let Them Get to You - But better phrasing?

Trying to come up with inspirational sayings for boundary enforcement, something that can be embroidered or engraved. Some sort of physical embodiment of this saying will be created. Indoor plant for my office

About 12 months ago I started work at a new workplace. The office fit-out is ordinary; beige cubicles for the workers, (mostly) windowless little offices for the big-salary earners. We all work in a low-rise building a few ks out of the CBD. A few nice things about the environment struck me when I was new: the lovely Indo-pacific artefacts decorating the place and the abundance of lovely tropical plants everywhere. [more inside]

I need help choosing a mechanical keyboard.

I am super hard on keyboards. I have killed 2 fancy ergonomic ones and more cheap keyboards than I can count in the past 4 years so I have decided to splurge on a nice mechanical keyboard, that can hopefully stand up to my destructive ways, well that and I really like the clicky clacky sensation when I type that you don't seem to get on modern keyboards. I have read various forums & even an old question on the green and all I have done is confuse myself so looking for some suggestions. Thanks. [more inside]

No power to car stereo or starter

While installing a new car stereo in my 1999 Saturn SW2, I screwed something up, as I no longer get voltage to the orange "constant power" wire (well, sometimes a mere hundredth of a volt!) to my car stereo, and my engine won't crank either! Yet all of my other electronics (headlights, air conditioner, etc.) work fine. Is there a blown fuse preventing power from getting to the starter and the car stereo? If so, where might the fuse be? The fuses in the fuse box are all fine.

Detective/Mystery Novels in Current Day New York?

A little while back I stumbled upon a detective novel (Losers Live Longer) that takes place in 2009 NYC and utilizes actual city streets, restaurants, bars, etc. The writing was pretty average, but the book kept me constantly aware of the protagonist's location (oftentimes cross-streets). The real-world geography of areas I knew well really sucked me into the world and engaged me on another level than the narrative alone. Are there any other good detective or mystery novels that use post-2000s (or, better yet, post-2010) New York accurately? [more inside]
