About 50 years ago when I was just entering grade school, my parents took us regularly to the children's room at the Portland OR Public Library main branch, and we would check out books. That's when I learned about science fiction, among other things. More below. [more inside]

Help me make a precise substitute for self-rising flour, using weight measures for the flour(s) or all of the components. I already have various flours with the gamut of protein levels: cake, pastry, AP, bread, semolina, and I don't want to buy and store yet another variation (with lousy shelf-life, to boot). I am looking to precisely match what a random person in the UK would buy off the shelf. Help? [more inside]
I'm looking for recommendations for games for the PS4, particularly in the RPG and puzzle genres. [more inside]
In 2006 or so I bought a set of nesting dolls at a Salvation Army store in San Francisco. There were 5-6 dolls and they were all Cold War leaders: Gorbachev, Thatcher, Reagan, etc. I thought they were the coolest thing on earth, but gave them to someone as a gift. I'd love to find the same set again and buy them again. There's no chance of contacting the person I gave them to. I keep searching eBay and googling but can't find them. Can you help?
A few months ago an online article by an experienced journalist got some facts wrong about a project I'm working on. My client asked me to contact him and provide the pertinent facts, and offer an interview with the client. I am not an approved spokesperson for the company, and I made that clear to the journalist. Lands End used to carry great cotton jersey plus-size skirts with pockets. I lived in these skirts eight months of the year. Their quality has gone way downhill, and they rarely put pockets in plus-size skirts now, except on skirts that are shorter than I would like. I can't find anything like the skirts I used to buy. Very picky details inside. [more inside]
Is there a worthwhile plus size sports bra available in a 3X/4X (clothing size 22/24) for under $30? I tried every one at my local Walmart, to no avail. The two that fit over my head were completely unsupportive and more like something you'd wear to bed. I don't care about uniboob or looking too flat, just being supported when I work out. Last weekend I jokingly suggested to my family that am going to run for president as an independent with a platform of issues that are completely apolitical. I want to add other items to my imaginary platform, but I only want issues that are inherently neither conservative or liberal. For instance, I would pledge to abolish Daylight Savings Time and eliminate the penny. What others can you suggest? [more inside]
My family has a storage locker in California. My dad died in 2011, and his name was on the lease, but we all have our names on it for access and have been continuing to use it. The facility has been aware of my dad's death since 2011. My mom is dying of cancer and wants her jewelry and her old dolls. There is a new lady in the front office who has suddenly decided she can't let us in anymore "because you have to go through probate because your dad is dead." [more inside]
That's role-playing games, of the pen and paper variety, not video games or some kind of munitions or anything else. I'd be especially interested in a place that would have a good selection of indy material, especially if it was of UK- or European origin. (And I'm asking about London in the UK).
The other day, Mrs. Wazoo (who is not new to coffee) brewed a pot of the worst coffee that's ever existed, and we're baffled and disgusted the the fallout. It started innocently enough, with a bag of coffee from Four Barrel that smelled... well, like coffee. It did not end that way. Can you help us with any ideas about what could possibly have been the cause of this awful, awful thing? [more inside]

Bank Compliance Mefites: I'm looking to find out how one identifies customers that may be acting as agents of foreign banks. Are there resources like government published lists, activities/behaviors that help identify them, etc.? Also I know there is an online forum, BankersOnline, that is helpful for these types of questions. Are there other forums out there that may be helpful?
I have limited time to work out, so I want to push myself hard in the time I've got, and I don't mind enduring short-term discomfort -- but I don't want to ignore my body's warning signals. How can I tell the difference between "This hurts because it's making me stronger" and "this hurts because I'm doing damage to my body?" What kind of pain means I should stop a workout, and what kind of soreness afterwards means I pushed myself too hard? [more inside]
My boyfriend a few months ago started a new job in my home country. Can someone explain to a non-American what being a 'registered Democrat' or 'registered Republican' voter means? Who do you register with, why would you want to and what does it mean in practice? Is it in any way connected with being registered to vote, full stop? I've been trying to work this out through context for many years, but I am defeated.
For some reason this is really hard to google. Who is on the cover of Will the Circle Be Unbroken, by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band et al.? (The first one, not either of the sequel records.) Is it Stonewall Jackson? Somebody else? A generic Civil War type dude? If so, what is that uniform? Please rest assured that I already feel bad for not automatically knowing this.
I'm working on a show right now that is shooting at night outside of Vancouver. Production has provided knock-off Uggs as warmup boots for performers, but they run small and don't fit my feet.
