Gross!!!

I came home from work this afternoon to find a dead rat lying in the spot where my cat likes to leave his 'catch of the day' for my approval. Usually he catches small squirrels, moles and birds, and this is the first (wild) rat I've ever seen in my life, alive or dead. I am super grossed out and horrified, and now I'm worried that there are rats around that could get in my house! (Although, I am a bit less worried than I would be if I didn't have a cat that can catch them!) [more inside]

how can my absent friend sign a tenancy agreement?

Question about flat rental in England. A friend and I will soon be moving out of our current places and sharing a flat together. I'll need to sign a contract for a flat while he's out of the country. How can we end up in a situation where we're both on the tenancy agreement with equal status, as if he'd been present to sign originally? [more inside]

strange Firefox problem

Using Firefox 3.6.3, Windows 7 Ultimate Edition. I have noticed over the past several days an error that makes reference to a script that is failing to run. I'm not sure how to replicate the error, but it essentially freezes Firefox, and I have to go into Windows Task Manager and kill firefox.exe and re-open it. Unfortunately I don't remember the exact wording of the error message. [more inside]

Well, this sucks a bit, but I'm wondering what it really means...

When you were involuntarily recalled, what was the process? Did they tell you right away, or did they call you in from the IRR (individual ready reserve) for 'annual training' and then break it to you there? Marine Corps, if it helps.
