What's a great 1 or 2 week adventure on the West coast?

I'm looking for a great retreat to do in late March/early April in Northern CA, Oregon or Washington state. I'm going to be in Portland, OR at the end of March and then in San Francisco and LA mid-April. Help me find a good river near Melbourne...

Does anyone know any sections of rivers or creeks not too far out of Melbourne (Australia) that are very wide yet quite shallow? You know the type, like something you see in a documentary about Alaskan bears with pebbles on the bottom and crystal clear water. After swimming in an amazing river in West Virginia may years ago I've dreamed about finding a similar one over here.

Don't deport her!

How long can EU citizens stay in the United States per year?  My girlfriend would like to stay with me for two-three months, then return home to work for a month, come back to the US for a couple months, etc. Will homeland security break up this arrangement after a while? Is there a limit to how many days per year she can stay in the US?  To be clear, she won't be working here.

Hungarian/US dual citizenship. Why not?

My wife (a US citizen) is considering becoming a Hungarian citizen (this would make it easier for us to move to the EU if we choose to). This is possible because her mother's parents were born in Hungary. What are the downsides of this, excluding (a) security clearances (we don't care) and (b) social/reputational consequences (ditto). Does she have to then file Hungarian tax returns every year (even if we continue to live in the US)? Anything else we need to know?
