What is this strange phenomenon?

What is this strange phenomenon happening with ostensibly house trained dogs soiling the house? I just threw out three area rugs that my 4 yr. old Beagle has ruined by pooing and peeing on them, even to the point of blackening the hardwood floor beneath. The very FIRST thing my son's dog does when she visits is crap and pee right in front of us! No shame.... [more inside]

Mmmm, maples.

I want to live on a large expanse of land, but avoid insane $$$ in property taxes. They say having a farm is the way to go. In that vein: How many maple and birch trees would I have to grow and tap to produce enough syrup of each for personal use? (I'm guessing a gallon if I eat pancakes regularly.) [more inside]

i'm 25 i swear!

YANML: I'm 25 years and 30 days old. I'm at a bar crawl in Pittsburgh. I just got denied entry to a bar on Carson St because my Ohio license is expired by 30 days. What is the Pennsylvania law for a bar regarding alcohol service for a 25 year old with an expired ID? I.E. how can I avoid getting blocked for the rest of the evening? Things to consider: Grace period for expired license, possessing multiple credit cards in my name (to verify identity) and obviously over the age of 21 based on physical appearance.

How do you respond when the interviewer misses your phone interview?

I had a phone interview for an entry level position at a small tech startup, but the interviewer is about forty minutes late with no signs of appearing. How do I respond? Possibly relevant: When I confirmed the interview, I forgot to "Reply All" and didn't CC it to two people. Because of this, my interviewer might have missed my confirmation or something.

Pie is greater than not pie.

I'm trying to express my love for a certain dessert in a math/logic formula. I have this: π > ∼π , which I take to mean "Pi is greater than not Pi", and this: π > ∞-π, which I take to mean "Pi is greater than Everything but Pi". Do these make any sense or hold up in any legit way?

Why Can't We Just Wear Jeans?

We've been invited to an evening wedding in Seattle area at a swanky hotel which is black tie. Not our usual venue at all. Neither of us wants to spend lots to dress for a single social occasion.
