Did she really say that?

I love this quote: "Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must believe that we are gifted for something, and that this thing, at whatever cost, must be attained." The interwebs attribute it to Marie Curie but I can't verify this or where it's from. Please hope me.

Help me avoid lethargy after three months of chemotherapy.

I've had a chequered history of employment and illness over the last year - after redundancy last summer, I finally got a job (i'm a bid manager) in December, only to be diagnosed with testicular cancer in February. I've spent three, nearly four months going through chemotherapy with the associated recovery periods at home in between, and now the chemo is finished I can't seem to get myself started again. How to download audio from NPR stream?

I want to download the audio from streams of concerts hosted on NPR's website - these are audio broadcasts that one can stream in their NPR Media Player (I'd like to be able to listen to these while not connected to the internet). Is there an easy way to do this? I've got Windows 7 on a laptop and XP on another. Thanks for any help. [more inside]

Bathroom window help: airflow with privacy?

I'd like to keep my bathroom window open and air moving through, but our bathroom window is directly opposite the neighbor's balcony. So I need some sort of screen or grate or fabric or something that is open enough to let air through, but opaque enough to hide our bathroom activity. Do I use fabric, metal, what? And where do I find it? [more inside]

Looking for twee band with hopping video

Looking for the name of an UK indie pop/twee band. The band had a front man with a beard and glasses. I recall a video on youtube with lots of hopping and dancing feet. This video was largely a static shot of a place on the floor where peoples feet would hop in and dance a bit. The video might have had someone dressed in a lion costume. In some images on their website there is a women in the band performing with white face paint, red lips, high penciled-in eye brows, and glasses. [more inside]

A little money, that's what I want

I need to buy some foreign currency before I travel. Where can I buy euros or CAD that will have the best exchange rate in NYC? I've tried my bank, they have to order it (!) and it wouldn't get here in time for me to leave. Please don't suggest using an ATM or credit cards once abroad, as neither of these are an option. Ordering from an online source would be an option, so if you've had a good experience with a website, I would be open to that. Thanks.

Job Interview Filter: "What was the funniest thing that ever happened to you at work?" What kind of answer is my potential employer looking for?

I'm completing a preliminary job interview form, and one of the questions asked is to describe the funniest situation that's ever happened at work. Bulk family photo scanning?

I'm trying to figure out what services are good for scanning a large number of family photos. We have about 60 photo albums, some with photos marked on the back with descriptions, and we want to scan them and keep them somewhat organized so we can view and print them. So I think we have somewhere 3000 photos and I want to know if these online places do what they say on the tin, if some are better than others, etc. We are in the US, California. What services do this, and how do I make sure I get the originals back, and the photos get metadata added to them if it's there?
