I have my entire iTunes library on an external hard drive. I have a computer that has no problem accessing the iTunes library on the external hard drive, but for any other purpose refuses to acknowledge the existence of said drive, because it's a powerpc external hard drive. I would like to figure out how to transfer my iTunes library to a brand new external hard drive to use with my new mac. [more inside]
We are considering getting a camper van in the UK. We want to keep our son outdoors and active but are limited by needing to get him home each day for nebuliser treatments which require a standard mains plug. It would be great if we could stay out for the entire day or stay overnight for a weekend. Requirements within... [more inside]

I'm looking to enter a nursing program like a BSN or MSN in the next few years but was wondering about the best way to get all my pre-reqs out of the way this year. I'm 22 years old and I have a BA in Linguistics and Creative Writing. I haven't taken a math or science course since high school. Looking for information in Los Angeles (North Hollywood). A month ago, my family moved into a new (to us) home. It is a one story ranch, with a straightforward layout. The house has three motion-activated security lights along the roofline. The lights are hardwired. I have found the indoor switch that activates light #1- no problem there. I cannot find the switches that activate the other two lights. [more inside]

I saw a sports doc for recurring issues with my calves, feet, and possibly the Achilles tendon. I'm going for PT on Tuesday but I'd like to look into local classes with exercises that target these issues in the meantime. Details below the fold. [more inside]
I am selling my old car because I needed a car that could tow my trailer. Old Car is generally terrific for being 11 years old, but the AC doesn't work. Price reflects this. Needs new AC compressor. Should I put it in the ad, or tell people on the phone?
I want to start taking pole-dancing classes, but I'm neither financially nor physically ready for them. I hope to start this winter, but in the meantime I'm going to the gym and lifting 2-4 times a week. What are the best exercises/lifts I can do that will help me get ready for pole-dancing specifically? Early 30s, female, terrible cardio capacity but can deadlift my body weight so far. My gym is pretty basic, with the usual weight machines, free weights, benches, etc. No kettlebells or rings, unfortunately, nor will I have access to an actual pole. Thanks!
I hate everything on my Nook/Kindle/iBook shelves. I have the newest Judy Blume and Stephen King and gave up after a few pages of each. Same for three other books in half hour span. I have a feeling the solution is to do something besides read for a day or two and come back, but I love reading. If you've read something good recently, let me know? [more inside]
I've had a couple dead battery incidents (left the lights on, etc), so I decided to start looking for some jumper cables or something for the inevitable "next time" this sort of thing happens... and I was wondering -- are the smallish portable devices that connect via the cigarette lighter a good option? I'm trying to remember a song I listened to many times years ago - it had a great spoken word part at the beginning of a woman talking about how we use wheels and doors for their emptiness - very similar to the Tao Te Ching chapter 11: http://earlywomenmasters.net/tao/ch_11.html [more inside]
I'm trying to decide between a bunch of lens options, materials and index. Of course, I'd like to get the thinnest lens I can without spending more than I have to and crossing the line of diminishing returns. Surely it's possible to know exactly how thick a lens of a given material/index with a given prescription will be. Help me find out how to determine this. [more inside]

It's a crowd of men who are going around in a circle, maybe around a wooden wheel. Anyone? It takes place in a prison, I believe, and a bunch of men are going around and around crammed together. It is not Midnight Express. Thanks!
My husband and I have been part of a 4-couple Supper Club that we've really valued. (Let's call the 8 members Couple A, Couple B, and Couple C, and us.) From late 2008 on, we'd meet every 6-8 weeks or so at each of the couple's homes on a rotating basis, and would all bring a dish to share according to a dinner theme selected by the hosts. It was very fun, the food was outstanding, and getting the 8 of us together was something we used to look forward to until... [more inside]
Thanks to MetaFilter, I am going on a Holocaust trip, sans my beloved husband, to Poland and Israel. We leave soon. It's a group trip, but we'll have two independent evenings (Saturday and Sunday) and a free afternoon (Monday) in Krakow, where the group is staying at the Sheraton. Suggestions, hive mind? I'm fine with eating etc. on my own, just need some suggestions on where.
I thought this would be a really simple thing, but I just went to amazon to order a toaster oven and was totally surprised at the sizes and options. Do you love your toaster oven? Toasty requirements inside. [more inside]
My friend, on a limited budget, needs recommendations for an air purifier in the low to medium price range. When I offered to post this question, raving about how the Hive Mind has helped me on Ask MeFi in the past, friend said "Yes please!" It would be especially helpful to get recommendations/advice from people who actually have used air purifiers themselves. We are in a major Canadian city, so Canadian recos are even more welcome. My nine year old has declared that he's interested in technology and wants to work on a project this summer. I'm not completely sure where this comes from, since his exposure to technology has mainly been netflix and mindcraft. I'd love to find a fun project we could work on together. [more inside]

One of my current brain-off binge-watch-while-tinkering/sewing shows is "Supernatural." I'm partway through Season 1. I've heard that, like many long-running shows (don't even look at me, X-Files), it eventually goes pear-shaped. As spoiler-free as possible: when should I quit? Alternatively, at what point should I quit, but feel free to point out any later episodes that are worth the watch.

My wife and I are planning a trip to the UK in August/September. We're looking at flying out of Minneapolis/St. Paul on Air Canada, with a stop at Toronto before continuing on to Heathrow, with the same itinerary reversed on the way back. Will an hour and a half be enough time in Toronto between flights? Since both our flights are international, will we be required to go through any kind of customs screening in Toronto on either leg, or will we be in the international terminal/area the whole time?

Suppose a privately held tech start up announces they received X dollars in Series B financing from a large publicly traded corporation. I want to know what the start up's valuation is as of the date of the financing. Is there anything in the publicly traded corporation's SEC filings that would give me insight into the start-up's valuation? The financing amount is pretty small relative to the corp's overall revenue. Assume I can't talk with anyone at the start-up or the corp. Thanks!
I got into an accident this weekend and I dented my door & part of the fender. My insurance company says that if the fix is more than 80%, they are legally obligated to declare is salvage / total loss which means I lose my car. I'm scared that this is the case. [more inside]

I'm conflicted with this sensitive, hard situation. My ex of 2.5 years broke up with me roughly 4 months ago due to him recently becoming aware of his issues (anger, depression, possible bipolar disorder, childhood issues, binge eating). He seems to be increasingly struggling with his issues day by day He mentioned that he still loves/cares for me, and wants to become a better person for me, build a life together but can't do these things until he gets better. We've talked on and off after the break up. He saw me out with a new guy and is now worried about potentially losing me and wants to get back together. [more inside]
Could you point me to well-articulated discussions supporting the confederate flag?
