Website scraping vs TOS

I'm working on a personal project to teach myself a new programming skill, specifically scraping website data. The project will analyze some data that I can get from a publically available website, and I think others in my industry would be interested in the results. Before I get too far into this, I want to make sure I'm not violating any of he site's terms of service, or find out if this is a generally acceptable practice. [more inside]

When to excuse myself from being MOH, and what exactly to say?

My question relates to my Previous Ask from January. The once-postponed, drama-filled wedding plans of one of my best friends since adolescence are now (allegedly) back on again! Looks like I may need to actively excuse myself from being the MOH this time, that is, IF this wedding actually happens... [more inside]

Restaurant reco near Chastain Park in Atlanta?

My wife and I are headed to Chastain Park to see Mark Knopfler next Saturday. Can anyone recommend a restaurant on that side of town? It could be really high end but if it's just cool, that's cool too. We're beer fans and have no food restrictions. Thanks!

What's going on on Ayler's Spiritual Unity?

I've been listening to Albert Ayler's Spiritual Unity. I like it, or substantial parts of it. However, I do not understand why it's an "important" record, as most people seem to agree that it is. I do not know anything technical about music at all, although I listen to a lot of it, and to a lot of "noise" records. Can anyone explain what this album is doing and why it is important? Anything crucial that only Microsoft Excel does?

Is there anything MS Excel does that LibreOffice doesn't that an undergrad econ major is likely to have to do? I am not asking about esthetics. I know one is prettier. Graduate Work in Progress

Due to some unexpected events at work (layoffs), I am job hunting. I am currently working on a second masters degree, and am wondering if I should list that on my resume, or just the one I have completed. I am not quite half way complete, and am part time. I estimate that finishing it will take me another two years. When would it be appropriate to list it with an expected graduation date? Thanks!

Paid chores/work for a teenager with social anxiety?

Tips on moderating a political debate

I will be moderating a political debate for a local election. I've never done this before. Any advice? I don't have any input into the structure of the debate. The questions will be pre-written (not by me) and there is no audience Q&A. But I'd appreciate tips on things like how to begin and wrap up, how to enforce time limits, and anything else I should be thinking about.

Using a Canadian Moto G in the UK -- poor data speeds

Hallo. I just arrived in London today for a conference and I'm very tired. I brought my Moto G (1st gen, I think -- not LTE) from Canada, and bought a pay-as-you-go SIM card from EE. Phone and text work fine, but data speeds are miserable -- 0.15 download/upload. It's only connecting on the EDGE network, and I can't get it to use HSPDA. Am I screwed re: data speed? The people at the EE store weren't very helpful; they variably said the speed would improve in a few hours, or that it wouldn't improve at all because it's a Canadian phone. [more inside]

How do I start looking for a creative partner?

Looking for practical advice and anecdotes on actively looking for a creative partner when life does not grant you one "naturally" like best friends who share a hobby etc. More specifically how do writers find other writers or comic book artists. I've gone to a few writers meetups and they were fun and useful, but ultimately not fruitful (yet). I know there are probably a lot of online communities I could join (how should I approach this approach to finding someone?)

Rock Chip Repair Stand VS Personal Information

On the spur of the moment, I swung my car by one of those Free Rock Chip Repair stands in a mall parking lot. Part of the process was taking a phone call from a rep from the Rock Chip company, who had to run my insurance to see if it could be covered. He said that he needed my date of birth and the last 4 digits of my SSN (in addition to my address, phone number, email address, insurance info, etc), or he couldn't check my coverage. The TV is screaming and it's not Halloween

Over the past few weeks our Samsung LCD TV has developed an odd habit after we turn it on. It will cycle on and off quite a few times before finally displaying a picture and sound (yesterday it took 25 minutes to come on). During the cycling the picture, if it displays, will be full of vertical lines (usually green or blue). There is usually no sound, except sometimes it will make a deafening screech that sends the cat running. [more inside]

Help me find this shy 20th-century British male writer

Two or so years ago, I read the beginning of a biography of a writer, probably a poet.
