Help Me Elevate My Cooked-Lunch Game

I’m retired, my partner works from home. He’s the dinner guy, I’m the lunch guy. I am moderately confident in the kitchen but am by no means an accomplished cook. I’d like cooked-lunch ideas where preparation is more or less straightforward, but not necessarily minimal. Thirty to 60-minutes prep time is fine. Snowflakes within. [more inside]

Apartment hunting question: how much is it worth it to be really close?

I'm apartment-hunting and I keep coming across places that are very, very close to my place of work -- but more expensive than the budget I came up with by $50-$100. I've never lived close to my job, and I'm wondering if it would be worth it to pay a little extra to be within 2 miles. [more inside]

How can I open a doc with MS Word/Excel in Google Drive via right-click?

At work we use Microsoft Office to create documents and Google Drive to store them. One of my coworkers has Drive set up so that when she right-clicks on a stored document, she is given the option to open it with Word, and the same is true of spreadsheets/Excel. I cannot figure out how to set this up so that I have the same options, and she can't remember how she got it to work that way. Any idea? [more inside]

Recommendations for a soft, flat-ish pillow?

I need to replace my old pillow, but I'm having trouble finding one that I like. How hard could it be to find a nice, reasonably-sized pillow? Apparently really hard. Everything I find in the store is huge and overstuffed, which makes me feel like I'm sleeping with my head tilted all night and make my neck hurt. I've tried memory foam and I'm on the fence since I am used to a softer pillow. I'm going to keep using the memory foam for now, but in the meantime, give me your soft, flat pillow recommendations! I tend to sleep on my side and back, for more context.

Transgender Studies 102: Pronouns again

I've noticed that some websites, including the wikipedia page, are using "she" retroactively (i.e., "she won the gold medal in the decathalon at the 1976 Summer Olympics") for Caitlyn Jenner. I've always assumed that you use the pronoun of the gender which the person presents, so that we'd use "he" for Bruce Jenner prior to 2015, and "she" for Caitlyn Jenner from here on out. But I honestly don't know. Is there an accepted standard?

Law enforcement travesty

A while back (a year or two?) a guy was arrested in SoCal and taken in to the station. This guy was stuck in the room with no food or water for several days and nearly died. A better boulevard

I live in Seattle. I have about 250 sq feet of boulevard in front of my new house that is kind of a mess. It's grassed, but it's rutted and uneven and there's a 2" wide by 6" deep trench between the turf and the concrete boundaries of the boulevard, so it's very difficult to mow cleanly. There are two trees planted in it -- I don't know what species -- and the mounds they're planted in contribute to the unevenness. [more inside]

Art filter: looks like a mediaeval engraving, probably not though.

So, saw this and I'm sure I recognise it, but can't remember what it is. It's a black and white engraving style print, of a person in an elaborate bird mask which covers their shoulders (similar to a plague doctor mask but more elaborate). They have a person over their knee almost as if spanking them and they are reaching back to drive a dagger through their foot. Any ideas?

Last Christmas season, I went to a restaurant store and bought a cake. It was nicely wrapped, and could easily keep for several weeks. It was not a fruitcake.
