Pay off your credit card with a loan - good idea/bad idea?

Is it really a good idea to get one of those "Pay off your credit card" loans? I am currently swimming in credit card debt & finance charges & I'm getting sick of it. I see ads for these things on Mint but I'm skeptical. I'm just kind of afraid of getting involved in something that will just make my situation worse & more expensive. I was wondering if any real people had positive experiences with this type of product. [more inside]

How do I talk to attractive people?

I'm having success with online dating insofar as I've been lucky enough to go on dates with people I'm very physically attracted to! However, I turn into a terrible conversationalist with them when I'm on dates: I talk too fast, spiral off on tangents, try too hard to impress, fail to make decent eye contact and generally act like a schoolkid with a huge crush rather than the intelligent, mature adult I like to think I am. As a result, things tend to disintegrate after a couple of dates, because I'm not really being myself. How can I overcome this? [more inside]

Can a Russian speaker help me to contact Vladimir Bukovksy?

I'm in contact with an English-speaking journalist that wants to write an article about Vladimir Bukovsky's hunger strike, but she can't reach him. I am looking for contact information for him or anyone close to him. I have searched everywhere in English and been unsuccessful. What did Mickey Spillane mean by this word?

Okay, so I'm working on new subtitles for Robert Aldrich's noir classic "Kiss Me Deadly". Around 50 minutes in, Mike Hammer drops in on a character named Carl Evello, and encounters a sexy girl who introduces herself like this:
"I'm Friday. I'd have been named Tuesday if I'd been born on Tuesday. I'm Carl's sister. Half sister. Same mother, different father."
The thing is, while her voice said "father", her lips were obviously pronouncing a different word, that was later overdubbed as "father". [more inside]

Frito Feet and Stanky Pet Pits: A Cornish Rex Conundrum

I need advice from short hair cat breeds. I have a lovely Cornish Rex, Louise, who is white (and pink where her skin shows through). She gets dirty quickly, and I don't want to bathe her too frequently, because a) she doesn't like it, b) even though I towel her off, her little short curls and damp fur make her miserable and cold, and she's afraid of the hairdryer, and c) I don't want to dry her skin out, because it's so exposed... see inside for more fun Cornish Rex Facts!!! How is a container of cremated remains lowered into a grave?

I've been to funerals where a casket was lowered into a grave using some kind of machine – what's the equivalent to this when the remains are cremated and put into a small box or urn? I imagine there's some happy medium between a giant apparatus and just dropping the box into the hole. If it makes a difference I'm interested in particular in how this is done in graves without a vault.

What non-Apple slideshow software should I acquire?

Help me find more "histories of the present"

So I just finished watching The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. I really liked it! I especially liked that it was not just an historical drama, but used the story of the Simpson murder trial as a way to comment on contemporary life. That is, the show was a vehicle for showing how the issues raised at the time -- of racism, sexism, police misconduct, domestic violence, celebrity culture, the 24-hour media cycle -- are still with us today, and lets us see how our understanding of all those issues is shaped by the impact the trial had on the public consciousness. How much time between flights to pass customs from Paris to Toronto?

I am buying my plane tickets for a trip this summer. One ticket has as its return a change of plane/layover time of 1hr 35m between the flight from Paris to Toronto and the flight from Toronto to Kansas City. Alternatively, I can go with a different flight that on the return goes from Paris to Chicago with a 2h 45m layover.
