Seeking Adobe Acrobat replacement for Mac OS X. I have Acrobat 8 Standard for Windows, which has served me well. But Adobe only offers their "Pro" version for Mac, which costs way more than I want to spend ($450), and it's also more than I need. So I'm looking for an alternative; free is great, but willing to pay for a solid software package. Intuitive and easy-to-use is a big plus. List of features I tend to rely on most in the "More Inside" section.

Kosher substitute for salt pork? We want to make an America's Test Kichen recipe for Thanksgiving turkey. It calls for salt pork to be laid along the back of the turkey during the first part of the roasting process (with the breast-side down),
like so. ATK says this is called "barding" the turkey, which they say makes the bird "self-basting."

So what
is "the most dominant" fighting style? Many years ago, I read that one of the driving forces behind mixed martial arts/ultimate fighting was an interest in answering questions like, "Who is the better fighter? The boxer who just whales on his opponent, or the karate black belt who is adept at a broad range of attacks and defenses?" This question of course could be applied to any pair of different styles, and of course the ultimate question is, "Which is the best overall?"

NYC filter: Looking for a bar on the Upper East Side (preferably east 80s/90s) which can accomodate a group of ~50-70. My high school class is having its 15th reunion, which will start off at our school and then progress to an after-party at a bar at around 9/9:30pm on a Friday in June. So a private room would work, as would a bigger bar which could simply accomodate a mass influx. Anything from divey to schmancy is a possibility. Thanks!

Mapping question: I have a list of (imaginary) cities. I also know each city's as-the-crow-flies distance from every
other city on the list. Based on this data alone, I would like to create a (hypothetical) map that shows all of these cities in their proper locations. I recognize that that the map's "rotation" would be arbitrary based on where & how you start plotting, but it seems that you should be able to plot out the relationships between cities properly. Is there software that can help me do this?

401(k) Question: I've been offered a job where new employees are eligible to enroll in what the company calls its "401(k)/Profit Sharing plan" after a year on the job. The firm has open enrollment for the plan twice a year - Jan. 1 & July 1. They've asked me to start working in the middle of next month, which means I wouldn't be eligible to participate in the plan until Jan. 1, 2011 - just under 1.5 years away. Is it worth asking if they can grant me slightly early eligibility for the July 1, 2010 enrollment date?

An old problem that I figured was more-or-less permanently in my past has reared its head. Even though I graduated from college a decade ago and have since gone to law school, a prospective employer is demanding my college transcript. My question is, when I send along my transcript, should I include any kind of explanatory note, or just leave things be? (A few more details inside.)
