I work as a voice UI designer for a US tech company. I've recently started a project for a client in Italy and have just spent several frustrating hours on the phone, first with our team in Italy, and then at the kickoff with the customer. [more inside]
I bought a firm-support memory foam mattress online and two weeks later it's still stiff as a brick. [more inside]
How did "America's Greatest Hoodie that you have to wait months to get" obtain all this hype from legit sources? [more inside]
I love this house track but can't tell what is being spoken at 0:31. It sounds Spanish but at 1:02 there seems to be a bit in Italian ("che sensazione, sensazione succosa"). Can you suss it out?
I am downsizing from a 3000 sq ft home to a 1000 sq ft home in a month's time. I need your best tricks for making this less painful and more efficient. How to dispose of valuable objects/furniture I can't bring with me? Order in which to pack? Apps for logging what's in the boxes? Lessons you can share? [more inside]
We're in Paris and my 8-year old would really like to climb trees. We're staying at Le Marais. Anyone have ideas?
I am trying to understand how ATMs came to be seen by consumers as a better alternative to tellers. How did people react to ATMs at first? What was the process that led to their widespread acceptance? Do you know of anyone who prefers to go to a teller for their cash and if so, why do they?
What is the difference between the farm-raised $18.99/lb salmon at my rural grocery store and the farm-raised $5.99/lb salmon I can get at Stop'n'Shop in the nearest larger town? I live in CT.
What's the latest and greatest on smoking cessation aids/programs? What, if anything, is known to be the best approach to stopping smoking assuming the person, a chain smoker, wants to do it?
I am taking an impromptu solo vacation in Italy, three weeks starting Sunday when I land in Milan from NYC. Help me plan a brilliant, immersive trip! Where would you go in my place? [more inside]
I would like my kids to use my old iPhone 4s. I don't need a data plan, since they can use the home Wi-Fi. They won't be making a lot of calls or sending many texts so I just need a plan that allows me to buy minutes rather than pay every month. My phone might still be locked to AT&T but I should be eligible to unlock it if necessary. The AT&T network has the best coverage in my area.
I am trying to identify the shorts (or skirt?) in this image. It is taken from the Summer 2014 women's lookbook by the Webster boutique in Miami. I've contacted them but had no luck. I'm hoping someone here will recognize the pattern.
I am looking for an anime series from 1975 called Arabian Nights: Sinbad's Adventures. Bonus points if you can find it dubbed in English or French, though I don't believe it ever was. As a child growing up in the Middle East I originally saw it in Arabic on TV, so Arabic would work for me as well.
I had a Chanel garment on eBay and it just sold to a buyer from China who has zero feedbacks. They used the Buy It Now option. I've sent out my invoice, which came to just short of $800 with shipping, and am now waiting for them to pay using PayPal. What should I do to protect myself in this transaction? Should I just cancel and relist? I am worried that I am exposing myself to negative feedback somehow.
I just received a pair of leather shoes, with a leather lining and a foam wedge, that are a size too small. I really like them and would prefer not to return them as they are sold out in my size. Is there any way to stretch them? I can fit in them and walk about, but they're quite snug and I can't wear thick socks in them.
I am really bad at dealing with medical bills and keeping track of when I've met my deductible, particularly with out-of-network providers. Is there an app or software that can help with the administration?
I'm looking for jokes my 7-year old son can tell at, say, a dinner party, which are made particularly funny by the fact of being told by a child. [more inside]
A nice girl in her late 30s that I know recently became single after a ten-year relationship with a guy who really didn't appreciate her. [more inside]
I'm looking for ideas for crafts that use a laminator for my 8-year old daughter's birthday party this weekend. Although most of the guests will be girls, we will have two boys, so the activity should be of interest to both sexes. Many thanks for your help!
I'd love for my children (7, 8 and 12) to learn to like documentaries. Can you recommend some that would be good to watch together? Ideally streaming on Netflix or Amazon. I imagine there aren't that many out there suitable for that age group so I won't limit the topics.
I've just been told at the Apple store that it's a bad idea to keep the iPhone plugged into the power for long periods when fully charged, and that if possible I should really only charge it when it tells me to (ie. when the battery is almost dead). [more inside]
My kids get so many holiday gifts these days that on Christmas day many of the new items are just tossed aside and only the shiniest given attention. I’m wondering if it would make more sense to stagger the unwrapping rather than let them open everything at the same time. I realize the unwrapping frenzy is part of the fun, but clearly receiving many gifts at once minimizes the value of the individual gifts. I don't come from a tradition of Christmas-time excess so I don't really know what this feels like to a kid. Scaling down is probably not an option, unfortunately.
I just received a request for performance feedback from a manager at my company concerning an employee I've worked with in the past year whom I did not like at all. I am uncomfortable telling the manager what I really think. Before I started working with this person I was warned by others to expect a difficult relationship. [more inside]
This is the sort of thing I had when I was young and it was so practical. I'd love to get something similar for my elementary school kids.
Last week I was visiting San Francisco and using a borrowed car. I got a $996 fine for parking briefly in a handicap spot in front of a store on Hayes St. The spot was marked in blue on the ground, and there was a sign in front of it, but the sign was obscured by a tree. I didn't know blue indicated the spot was off-limits, I live in MA. I saw the sign too late, and it indicated the minimum fine was $250. [more inside]
As of not very long ago we have an expensive cable TV subscription and a little time to watch it, but no patience for lowest-common-denominator entertainment (we're in the US). Is there a website or even blog that can give us the lowdown on the week's and day's programming that is worth watching? We're interested in smart, thought-provoking documentaries, news-programmes and critically acclaimed movies/TV shows, especially independent and foreign ones.

Please recommend great French films, ideally critically acclaimed, that I can watch on Netflix or Amazon Instant Video. Difficulty: should not be depressing.

Virtually every dish my Mum cooks calls for diced onions. Is there an easy-to-clean chopping device I could gift her that could speed up her work?
What is this mystery object found on the floor of a public bathroom at a Boston Best Buy?
Where can I get a hard-cover photo book printed in a small size - say 4" x 4"? [more inside]
I have a 15-year old black cashmere coat (women's) from Kiton. I've never had it dry-cleaned. It's in very good shape and doesn't appear dirty but I'm wondering if it can be freshened up. I worry that the dry cleaner might damage it, for example by flattening the hair when pressing it.
Are there any iPhone/iPad apps or games that would help a 10-year old with her reading? When she reads out loud she does really well for a few minutes but quickly starts to skip words or guess them rather than trying to read what's on the page. She loves computer games so I was wondering if a reading game might motivate her.

Visual artists: what kids’ picture books do you love? I’m especially interested in books appropriate for 4 and 5 year olds, but if you have recommendations for books for older kids that’s great too.
Mid- to late Seventies rock music wanted. I'd like to put together a recherché sampler while avoiding the well-worn tunes. If there's a good compilation already out there, so much the better. Thanks!
Looking for an hour or longer album or mix of atmospheric music with hypnotic beats, slow or fast, doesn’t matter. The style can be anything, though preferably current, preferably instrumental, and preferably a little dark.

I'm looking for photographers who explore the contemporary American urban and suburban environment, and see poetry in highways, strip malls, gas stations, motels, SUVs, financial districts that are dead on the weekend, etc. Thanks!
I want to set up a website for a condo I'd like to sell, with photos and all the information. Can you point me to some websites I could use for inspiration? Thanks!
