Give more quitting notice during the holidays?

I'm likely going to be able to accept a new job (Yes, no resigning until I have a written offer, I know) but I am concerned about giving only 2 weeks notice during the holidays. For example, if I resigned 12/17 and my last day is 1/31, no one will be working for most of those two weeks. I supervise 6-7 other social workers and an intern; if I leave during a break I worry that they will not have A. heard about it and B. been able to sort of make any coverage plans. I know I'm not irreplaceable; I just don't want to burn bridges. [more inside]

Why does my cat chomp on my bare legs when I'm walking around?

YANMC (You are not my cat), but why does my 2 y/o cat attack my legs? Bare legs = Wide, crazy kitty eyes and sideways CHOMP right into my calf. This has been going on for about a month. And I mean MY legs- we've tried to see if she will go after my husband's and she won't! This is not a serious problem; I'm just curious. I'm an experienced cat owner but this is funny and baffling. Employer liability insurance + individual coverage= Necessary?

I am a clinical social worker (Therapist/supervisor) and I'm covered by my employer's liability insurance. I've been told it can be helpful to have additional liability coverage. I'm not sure if I need it, and the NASW (Nat'l Association of SW'ers) policy feels scam-my. To get NASW insurance, (the most common insurer for sw'ers), you need to be an NASW member, which is approx $180, on top of paying the policy premium. I don't trust google results because anything could pop up, regardless of quality. Practicing in MN if that's relevant; I also have an adjunct teaching position. IDK if that college has social work liability coverage for clinical staff. 1. Do I need two liability policies? If so, why? 2. Can I get good malpractice/liability coverage independent of NASW?

Five days later, we changed our minds about the apartment due to costs. Apt. co. is saying they get to keep our $400 deposit because it stated so in eeny weeny font on the application. Is there anything we can do or is this a very expensive reading lesson? [more inside]

Lease vs. own to save money short term?

Should I lease a car in order to lower my monthly car payment and have an extra $100 a month or suck it up and pay off my car in three years? A local lease special I qualify for would have my paying approx $200/month to lease a sedan which I neither love nor hate. I know leasing is not a great long-term financial plan, but would trading in my current car for a lease to have a little breathing room be worth it in the short term? My current car I've had for two years and it's "right side up" by about $1500. My payment is $330 with a 3.5% rate (In November I refinanced down from 7%). I like this car a lot. Aside from some dings, it's in good shape. Runs well; loan is up in 3 years. *Snowflake stuff inside* [more inside]

Forget it, I'm registering at the dollar store.

Do I have to register at Big Box Red Store, even if I hate this store, just to be "polite?" (Friends act flabbergasted/annoyed and say we should register at BBRS basically because it's convenient for them. Rant inside about why I don't think we need to register there.) [more inside]

Are the words "grace" and "rain" either identical or similar in Persian?

Are the words "grace" and "rain" either identical or similar in Persian? Someone wrote me a letter about a Rumi book they sent me when I was little and I remember them saying that in the language Rumi wrote in, "grace" and "rain" are the same word. According to Wikipedia, Rumi wrote the the "New Persian Language." (Yes, crappy sources, I know, hence I ask!)

How to reduce cardio effects of caffeine?

Is there a way to help reduce my heart rate after it gets all ramped up from drinking caffeine? Lately I've noticed that whenever I drink even a small cup of black tea my heart starts to beat rapidly a few hours later and I feel a lot of pressure in my chest, like my heart is trying to beat faster but there's a rubber band around it. The sensation is similar to panic or running, but I don't feel panicky in my head. Aside from obviously avoiding caffeine, will doing something like drinking tons of water help calm me down faster than just waiting it out?

Would the SO moving into "my" place seem like a recipe for disaster? I know once he moves in it's "our" space, but I've heard bad things about someone moving into someone else's space, and want to make the living-together transition as smooth as possible. (Yes, another living together question, but I didn't see one so far about the acutal living space.) [more inside]

Do I have to RSVP?

An ex-friend I ended the frienship with contacted me via email after over a year of no contact. The email was along the lines of, "do you still use this account? I guess sending this means I wish to reconnect." I don't want to resume the friendship with her, but she has serious mental health issues and we have a lot of friends in common so I feel obligated to answer the email... mostly to not seem like an a-hole. Do I have to answer it? If so, what should I say? I'm afraid even a really vague response will encourage her; she has really poor boundaries. [more inside]
