I have a genuine copy of Windows 7 Ultimate which i have previously installed and activated through Microsoft. I wanted to reinstall Windows today but I've found the DVD has somehow been scratched and my DVD drive refuses to read the disc. If i download a copy of Windows 7 from BitTorrent and install it using my genuine CD key, will I get into any trouble? Will it even work? If not, what are my options?
Is there any way I can connect my External USB hard drive to my PS3 non-wirelessly while still sharing it wirelessly with other devices (iPad, iPod and other PCs in my house) using an Airport Extreme and a 4 port USB hub? I have a gut feeling that there must be a way to do this but I can't actually work out a real world way to do this. I accept I may potentially need to buy a new cable or two but I can live with that. Any ideas? [more inside]
Does anyone own one of the new dual band Airport Extremes, using it to access a USB Hard Drive externally, and use Windows 7? If so, how is it working for you? Because it's not working real great for me at the moment. If you're a WiFi guru or you have a perfectly functioning AE with a similar setup, please help me out! [more inside]
I now own a MacBook Pro 17". And now I have some questions relating to MacOS and Windows 7, hardware upgrades and getting Applecare-on-the-cheap. [more inside]
Does anyone have any idea what this structure is, or what its purpose might be? More pics and information past the break. [more inside]
My partner and I would like to get a kitten, but I'm very allergic to them and not keen on living on a daily diet of Telfast to cope. Is there anything we can do? [more inside]
We bought a brand new car a couple of weeks ago but the windscreen is scratched. We're pretty sure that the dealer did this but we don't really have any proof. What are our options? [more inside]
My desktop computer has just died so I'm thinking of finally buying a notebook to replace it. Problem is, I know very little about the notebook 'scene' and have no real idea what's good and what's not. Out of all the notebooks available from here, which one would you get? My budget is $2000 but I'd go as high as $2500 if there was a compelling reason to do so. And if there's any extra accessories I'm really going to need, let me know. Thanks!
Just started a new job. I want these people to like me. Other than working hard, what's the best way for an introverted person like me to make a good impression with my new co-workers? [more inside]
What was the reason that the leaders of most western countries (such as America, Australia and the UK) stopped wearing facial hair from around 1910 onwards? [more inside]
I just bought Settlers of Catan! But now I have some questions surrounding expansion packs and two-player variants. I'm hoping some experienced Catan players could help me out. [more inside]
WiFiFilter: My computer can see and connect to my wireless access point. So can my PS3, Wii and iPhone. But unlike my PS3, Wii and iPhone, it can't browse the net. Ping requests are timing out. What am I doing wrong? [more inside]
Assuming I am true and honest to my word and delete the music from my hard drive once I sell it, how can I legally make money selling old music that I have legally downloaded and no longer want? [more inside]
Calling my fellow PS3 owners! Do the PS3 Singstar microphones work with the PS3 versions of Guitar Hero: World Tour and the Rockband games? I have done some Google searching which has turned up responses ranging from "yes" to "no" to "maybe"... I'm hoping AskMe can turn up something a little more definitive.
How do you copy downloaded games and game demos from the PS3 hard drive to a USB stick? Because unless I've missed something painfully obvious, I can't see a way to do this from within the XMB.
My 5.5G iPod Classic, which was working fine at least 3 days ago, has decided that it's not going to output sound anymore. Not through my earphones, not through a dock... nothing. On screen it says it is playing a song or a movie or whatever but the accompanying sounds do not come along for the ride. What might be the reasons for this, and how might they be easily fixed here at home (instead of a trip to the repair shop)? [more inside]
I just bought a 5.1 home theatre system. The speakers are Klipsch; the receiver is a Yamaha RX-V363. I'm having some (read; a lot) setup problems that I'm hoping the hive mind could help me out with. Specifically, I'm having trouble getting sound out of my PS3 and a picture and sound out of my Wii. Hope me! [more inside]
What are the best display settings for a Playstation 3 to ensure I get the best possible picture quality when watching Bluray discs and standard DVDs? [more inside]
I'm looking at buying a Playstation 3 pretty much only so I can have a really good Blu-ray player. It's highly unlikely I'll ever buy any PS3 games beyond GTA4, Rockband and maybe Little Big Planet. Given this, should I just buy the 40GB model of the console or are the extra features of the 80GB model (flash card reader, SACD support etc) worth the extra cash in the long run?
I haven't watched The Simpsons regularly since about season 12 or 13, but in those episodes I did happen to catch on TV, I have never seen them directly attack President Bush. I do remember back in the 'golden age' they used to regularly poke fun at Clinton (to name but one example, Clinton playing the sax and Moe telling him to "get back to work"). I'm wondering if regular watchers of The Simpsons can point me to episodes from season 13 onwards where they did directly parody or attack Bush.
What exactly is the appeal of slasher movies like Saw, Hostel, The Hills Have Eyes and Wolf Creek? [more inside]
I'm thinking of buying Bioshock for the PC. Is my system up to the task of playing this game with all (or close to all) its graphical bells and whistles? System specs inside. [more inside]
My fiancée is only 24 years old, but she has osteoarthritis (see this previous question). As a result, she has a lot of pain, particularly in her back, but she is just generally sore all over. We suspect that her job (customer service in busy cafe with a lot of heavy manual work thrown in behind the scenes in the kitchen and store rooms) may have exacerbated her condition because before she started there, she never felt the sort of pain she feels now after just two years of working there. We're thinking maybe we should get a personal injury lawyer and see if we have a case. Do the medical and legal minds of the hive think we do, too? [more inside]
I've just bought a Sony Bravia 40" LCD TV. I'm interested in what others here think are the optimal settings for viewing HDTV? And, while we're at it, for watching DVDs, as I'm sure that HDTV would benefit from different settings than DVDs would. I think I have the settings pretty much as good as I can get them, and I recognise that different settings suit different people, but I would be interested in what other Bravia owners think are the best settings for optimising their picture quality.
OK, so there are apparently 4000 different chemicals in a cigarette, right? But as I understand it, the only substance that makes it addictive is nicotine. So why don't cigarette companies simply not include all these various chemicals? Does their removal lessen the 'joy' smokers get from smoking a cigarette? What's their purpose? [more inside]
I own a DS Lite. Recently, the 'R' button has started to become somewhat non-responsive. It still works, but I have to push it really hard to get a response to it at all. I suspect that the contacts need cleaning. Since I've never done anything like this before, should I attempt to do this myself? By that I mean is it a relatively simple affair or would this be incredibly difficult to do? And if I were to go ahead and do it, what tools might I need to finish the job?
I have two SATA drives installed on my machine. My computer works fine except for the fact that roughly every two or three weeks my computer will fail to boot with a message reading "NTLOADER is missing. Press CTRL ALT DEL to reboot." I can fix the problem temporarily by opening up my computer case and swapping the drives around on the motherboard (putting the cable for Drive 1 into SATA 2 and vice versa), at which point Windows will boot up fine and function without a problem but as I said, within the space of two to three weeks, the problem comes back. Hope me, please! System specs inside. [more inside]
My computer keeps locking up and/or rebooting! Help me find the problem. [more inside]
A few years ago (possibly in or around the year 2000), while channel surfing, I remember catching parts of a TV show on Australia's ABC which was set in Australia's federal Parliament House. I don't have a clue what it was called though, and my searching has turned up nothing. I think it might have been a comedy, too. Anyone know what show this is?
Which of the files in this 4mb zip file (link to website) can I get rid of so that I can fit it all on one 3.5" floppy disk so that the Windows XP installation program will recognise my brand new SATA drive? [more inside]
Should I buy a Nintendo DS Lite when I already own an original model DS? Is it really all that worth it?
There is a piece of lose plastic hanging down near the passenger side tire of my girlfriends car. Need some advice on what it is and how much it may cost to fix. [photos inside] [more inside]
In Star Trek: First Contact, when Picard initiates the Enterprise auto-destruct sequence, he orders his crew to meet on Gravett Island, which is apparently an uninhabited island somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. My question is; does this island actually exist? [more inside]
I just bought a Sony Ericsson K750i Mobile Phone, and I love it. But I have some questions in regards to the Memory Stick and the Memory Stick Duo Adaptor that comes with the phone. [more inside]
What does an astronaut do if he or she is space-walking and then suddenly finds that there is an itch on their face that desperately needs scratching?
