CanIEatItFilter: I just sterilized a bunch of breast pumps/bottles in boiling water. Can I use that boiling hot water to cook, specifically something like pasta? The bottles were all washed with soap and water, then thoroughly rinsed before sterilizing.

My wife and I are about to close on a house. Most of the rooms are carpeted and we're wondering what we should do; we'd like to rip out the carpets but are worried that the hardwood floors underneath (assuming that the floors
are hardwood) might be covered with lead-based paint. Also, we pretty much have less than one month to do the floors.

Just bought a bunch of cables on the cheap online, and so now I'm of course wondering -- what are other kinds of products that are generally wildly overpriced at retail stores but actually can be purchased cheaply online? And which online stores are best for these products.

I need an easy, yet cool-looking electronics project. In around one month, I'll be visiting Tokyo, including a day-long trip to Akihabara. Inspired by
this post I think it would be really, really cool if I spent part of that day buying parts in order to create something electronic. Difficulty: I have close to zero experience with electronics.

Almost all meat substitutes that I've encountered simulate well-done meat or fish. Are there any vegan/vegetarian recipes to simulate raw/extremely rare meats and fish?

Okay, so I was waiting at the train station and I realized that two people a short distance away were speaking in a language I didn't recognize. And it got me thinking. I can probably recognize fewer then 10 languages by ear (note this doesn't necessarily mean I can understand what's being said, just that I know what language it's in). I'd like to be able to recognize many, many languages so when I hear people talking I'll know what language they're speaking even though I won't have a clue what they're actually saying.

So, apparently
I need to get a smartphone. I'm not 100% sure that I really "need" to, but browsing the web on the tiny screen of my
current phone is not a fun experience. I'm overwhelmed by the options available and need some guidance on my next steps choosing a
phone and the network provider for me and my wife.

What kinds of stores are out there? I've gotten so used to buying most of my things at department stores or large chain grocery stores that if they suddenly disappeared I wouldn't know where to go to buy things. So I'm wondering where you'd get things if you didn't get your things at a large store.

After reading the legal opinion posted through
this FPP post, I am reminded of how much I actually enjoy reading a well written, interesting legal opinion or briefing. So. What are some other exciting or interesting legal readings, and are there good websites or other (preferably free or available in a library) resources for reading legal documents?

It occurs to me that, if pressed, I could write out maybe 100-200 jobs/careers, tops. But there must be thousands or tens of thousands. Partly out of curiosity, and partly because I'd love to know what's out there, are there any websites or free resources with a comprehensive listing of jobs and careers, including info like average salary and qualifications required?

I'm thinking of taking a transatlantic, one-way flight using two separate tickets. Basically, the cheapest flight I've found that goes to my destination (via one or 2 connections) is more expensive than taking a direct flight to New York, and from there taking one of the budget airlines to my final destination. Should I go ahead with two separate tickets, or is the hassle not worth saving $100-200?
