I'm in London for an extended period of time. Unfortunately I still have calls (work) that seem to last until 7PM or so, so I'm usually stuck at the office until late. I'm staying near the British Museum, however everything seems to just shut down really early or I don't know where to look? Any suggestions that don't involve a pub (or drinking)? A coffeeshop or equivalent that will let me linger, and has good WiFi would be great. Or cool shops to browse that are open late. [more inside]
I'm not a gamer but I sort of want to geek out and play with an Xbox One at launch. Besides going to auction do I have any options? It seems like buying a console at launch is meant to be for people who follow the industry or are really into gaming. Do I have any options at this point or will I have to wait? If I did have to pay a premium, what kind of premium over retail should I expect?
I live in a pretty nice, large modern loft. It has all sorts of furnishings: new appliances, garbage disposal, in-unit washer and dryer, new bathroom, dish washer, underground parking. I'm thinking of moving into an older building that has charm, but none of these things. Will the lack of these luxuries make me go crazy? Has anyone done this, and not regretted it? [more inside]

I had a have a sweater that was very fitted in the sleeves. Without thinking, I spent the day with the sleeves rolled up (I had a dress shirt underneath it). Now the sleeves are all stretched out. Is the sweater permanently this way, or will running it through the dryer shrink it? It is 60% cotton / 30% viscose / 10% wool.
What's the name of the Formula 1 victory song that played during the late 80s/early 90s. My recollection is that it was also used in a popular arcade racing game at the time. It features heavy 80s synth. [more inside]
Any ideas where I can get a replica Eames Desk Unit for less than $1399? I've had good luck with finding replica mid-century modern furniture, as it just begs to be reproduced (molded plastics, simple materials). For some reason desks are several times harder to come by.
How does Ruby compare to C#/Java in terms of speed of development, quality of code and long-term maintainability? A broad question, I know, but my focus is on enterprise applications that might pull in from several large data sources and might be rather large. [more inside]

When Colbert was still on The Daily Show he did a bit pretending to be, I believe Hunter S Thompson when covering the beginnings of the war in Iraq or Afghanistan. He wore a safari type hat that was pinned to one side, along with a cravat or cravat-like scarf. Can anyone find this? I'm sure I saw it on thedailyshow.com, but it might have come from youtube. Help me find this photo blog I used to follow: I don't remember the name, but it always presented a single photograph that was updated infrequently (maybe once a month?) ... the guy who took the photos had an Asian name, but to my knowledge never appeared any photos. His girlfriend was also a frequent subject of the photos and she was white. He also listed the lens, camera and other information at the bottom of the photo. Most of the photos were shot digitally, but a few were vintage cameras. The domain was also short and catchy. Any ideas? [more inside]
I have a Mac Mini (2007, Intel GMA 950 graphics card, 10.5.8), with DVI out. Out of nowhere, when I boot up I'll see nothing with the monitor reporting no signal. After it boots up, I'll see a blue screen, followed by my wallpaper ... then no signal again. I can VNC into it and everything looks fine. Changing resolutions doesn't do anything. If I unplug the DVI cable and plug it back in, it'll work for a few seconds and then back to the no signal. Any ideas? [more inside]

I have an older truck (Dodge Dakota 2000) I just use for truck things, the rear bumper is completely crushed. I called around and locally the cheapest I can find is $1200 just for the bumper and brackets, without labor. I found this on Amazon.com which is not OEM but Westin PerfectMatch. How close do these match the OEM, alternatively, where can I find OEM parts online?

Help me identify this song and the compilation album it came from! The lyrics went something like, "You're just 19" and talked about how young it is to have a boyfriend or was about a breakup with a boyfriend and the recurring theme was the young age. It was very indie, song by two women with minimal accompaniment. I'm 90% sure it was on the same compilation as Magic Number's There Is A Light That Never Goes Out cover. I also have a feeling it was an XFM compilation from sometime in or around 2007. [more inside]

How does Google run their data centers? I remember watching a Q&A with someone at Google trying to recruit kids at a college.
