Is there a database that could tell me which actors are currently on-screen for a specific movie at a specific timecode? Ideally one that allows public access or is crowd-sourced?
It was either in French (most likely) or German (may have had English subtitles). It was about a poor kid having grown up to be a rich man, and the story was being told via flashbacks. The detail I remember is some scenes about him being invited to a rich kid's house for a dinner. He took homemade baklava as a gift, which was looked down upon. His family may have been Turkish immigrants to this European city. [more inside]
Looking for stuff in the itunes store with Korean subtitles, the shows/movies don't have to be Korean. Is it right to assume that Korean-produced movies will all have Korean subtitles? What other stuff has subtitles? Any way to search for this?
Okay, so I'm working on new subtitles for Robert Aldrich's noir classic "Kiss Me Deadly". Around 50 minutes in, Mike Hammer drops in on a character named Carl Evello, and encounters a sexy girl who introduces herself like this:
"I'm Friday. I'd have been named Tuesday if I'd been born on Tuesday. I'm Carl's sister. Half sister. Same mother, different father."The thing is, while her voice said "father", her lips were obviously pronouncing a different word, that was later overdubbed as "father". [more inside]
Asking for my boyfriend: What is the name of the movie in which a ragtag bunch of people search for a buried treasure? These people are competing to find this treasure, driving recklessly, and attempting to stop the others from finding it. I think the treasure winds up being buried by palm trees, having to do with a certain geometric pattern (an "I" beam shape, or perhaps an "H"? I don't remember). The whole debacle winds up being a misunderstanding if I remember correctly, and the treasure is something priceless or worthless. Thanks!
OK, knowing the answer will probably not make me a better, happier, wiser person, but I've got to know: in some random Tumblr surfing I saw this picture, apparently a still from a movie... [more inside]
I´d like to know exactly where the crash scene was filmed in the film "Abre los ojos". YouTube video provided inside. [more inside]
I was tremendously moved by Pixar's Inside Out and went online to read reviews. While not taken as a pillar of the film community, I noticed on IMDB when you clicked on user reviews, you were greeted by a full page of 1-star reviews. This seemed... suspicious. Are there any groups that would perhaps see the film Inside Out as worthy of a targeted campaign to deter people via imdb? [more inside]
This is for a friend, who saw this movie on tv as a kid: Chess player in prison, uses scraps of bread to make chess pieces, plays all the time. Upon release from prison, goes into a cafe (?) and seeing the floor made of black and white square tiles, "goes crazy." The End. [more inside]
My husband vaguely remembers a scene in a movie or TV show where a character is singing along to Modern Love while crying. Which movie or tv show was this? [more inside]
A small theater chain claims that their digital projectors produce a slight red glow that's visible on the screen and affects all of their auditoriums. They claim that it's so faint that hardly anyone notices it. I did and it bothered me the whole movie. What's going on there? [more inside]
Awhile ago I saw a very strange art video in which a woman is putting on lipstick, then proceeds to cover her entire face, then her entire body, in pink lipstick. [more inside]
I am trying to identify a movie I saw in the 1970s, perhaps in theaters or perhaps on TV and thus released earlier. It was in color. A group of people is on a cliff, looking at a bay, and worrying that the orcas that live in the bay will prevent their escape from---something. I'm sorry but that's all I have. Any idea what I was watching?
I remember one scene from a movie -- but what movie is it? A boy is sitting on the floor watching TV. We know that the kid's dad is a butcher. The boy is thinking about what he wants for Christmas (there's a narrator) -- typical toys. The Dad walks in with a large package wrapped in white paper and throws it on the floor and says "Hey kid, Merry Christmas" in a totally flat tone. We know the package is a side of beef or something like that, but I can't remember how we know that. [more inside]
I’m looking for suspenseful, edge-of-your-seat movies (horror, mystery, thriller, action) that are reasonably realistic and have a conclusive, unambiguous ending. When watching movies, I’m always willing to suspend some disbelief, but only up to a point. I’m turned off by gaping holes in the plot line, implausible twists, and puzzling endings. [more inside]
My husband left me out of the blue and my heart is hellishly broken and I am trying desperately to make the hours pass until it hurts less. I am looking for recommendations for tv or movies. I can't do too much violence or suspense or romance. I like sci-fi and fantasy, I like nature, quirky things and strong women. I watched a bunch of Elementary until it all seemed the same, then I watched Blindspot but I'm all caught up, then I watched The Lost Room and then rewatched Firefly for the umpteenth time, and Lucy, then some of Misfits. I read Ms. Marvel, I listened to the podcasts The Message and a bunch of The Black Tapes. I have Eat Pray Love cued up and then Howl's Moving Castle. I don't know if this is enough info to go on, but I need to get through the minutes and thought I'd ask. Maybe I'll watch the first season of Veronica Mars again. Help?
In 10 days I'm going to visit a friend in Harare who is a foster mother to seven girls between the ages of 11 and 16. They all live on a farm in the suburbs and watch movies, play cards, sometimes read books in the evening. What are some enriching and inspiring books and movies for teenage girls to read and watch that I can bring for them? [more inside]
I'm not sure exactly what to call this. I'm collecting examples of obvious miscommunications in movie production that no one cared enough about to get fixed. I noticed one of them in the movie Friends with Benefits. Can you help me find this clip online? [more inside]
I'm looking for a movie I saw a while ago. (It's not Enemy Mine.) It was a pretty low budget scifi movie involving a war between aliens and humans. [more inside]

Does anyone remember a western where there is a scene in which a woman is holding a crying baby and they are surrounded by coyotes or wolves? [more inside]
In the late 1980s, I remember seeing something on television that featured some kids picking up a signal/broadcast from outer space. The broadcast contained an alien news show. It was a standard type of news show with male and female aliens at a news desk with an inset in the top corner. The aliens were sort of heavy-set, not your generic, skinny bug-eyed aliens. I don't think it was intended to be scary but it kind of freaked me out as a 7-year old and it has stuck with me to this day. [more inside]

i watched a movie where an American writer, disappointed in love, goes to some remote location to write and is assigned a Spanish (?) speaking housekeeper. Of course, they fall in love. The main scene I remember is that the writer loses pages of his manuscript in the lake, and his housekeeper jumps in after them. I can't find this movie on Google - please help hive mind.
Where can I find excellent movie discussion, analysis, reviews, dissection, etc by women? I feel like I have a stable of great film-related youtubers, writers, and podcasters that I enjoy, but they are largely male -- I'd love to discover more current work from women in this area. Thank you!
I remember watching this and enjoying it more than expected, but unfortunately the details are so generic as to render searches nearly useless. [more inside]
It's a crowd of men who are going around in a circle, maybe around a wooden wheel. Anyone? It takes place in a prison, I believe, and a bunch of men are going around and around crammed together. It is not Midnight Express. Thanks!
This is kind of vague (else I would remember it I suppose) but it was late 90s/early 2000s (?), with a separated guy with a young daughter (?), there is a fight with his wife at a gas station (?), somehow he meets a Kate-Winslett-ish character (pretty sure it was not Winslett though), and then they move somewhere north-ish and start to renovate/rehab an old house ... Thanks!

I've seen "find that vaguely remember movie magic" happen here before with only the slightest of clues, so here goes. My wife and I watched a movie back in 2001. I'd say it came out within five years prior to that date. [more inside]
What would be a good movie to show middle school students that would spark dialogue and critical thinking about what it means to be "American"? The audience would be mostly African-American and Hispanic students. Needs to be PG-13 or lower rating.
An indie film maker wants to use a song my band recorded and released for free. It's written by a friend's band and used with their permission. The film maker is asking to use it for free for a low-ish budget indie film. They have a contract, which states that they will use it for free and how they can use it (and that they do not have exclusive rights). We're pretty much ok with it, and so are the original songwriters. BUT... we've had interest in the past for commercial sync deals with this song. On two occasions, a sync company approached us to present the song to a client for commercials. Although these deals didn't work out, it's not unforeseeable that we get approached again, since this particular song seems to have commercial appeal. My question: if we give the song away for free to this film, will that ruin our chances of selling the song in the future? I know that legally, we can do whatever we want. However, would a sync company or their clients not want to use it if it had already appeared in a film? [more inside]
What movie did I see in school in the late 80's that featured sheep being punctured with a huge needle-ish poker thing to save the sheep by releasing internal gas resulting from grazing on the wrong kind of grass? And does all that really happen?
The details I remember: the crew reach a Greek / Roman themed paradise (think togas and grapes and naked attractive people with palm fronds), and run away comically when they go to a concert which consists of weird noises coming from a clockwork / steam powered machine. [more inside]
I just remembered a movie that I saw part of on TV years ago. Here's all I remember about it. It was about a young man who was studying science at a university, I think he was a grad student. I think he was a genius or coming up with some cutting edge theory or discovery. It was definitely science, I'm pretty sure astronomy... He was Asian and I'm pretty sure had just come to America for college/grad school. He frequented a tea shop where he first ordered "togo" tea, not realizing it was "to go." [more inside]
I'm trying to remember the name of a movie I saw when I was young. It was the first movie I saw by myself at a theater so it must have been late 80s, and was probably rated PG. What I can remember of the plot (spoiler alert, I guess), a young boy is kidnapped by a much older man who takes him on the road. The boy is resistant at first but eventually forms a bond with his kidnapper, maybe seeing him as a father figure. The law eventually catches up with them and somehow they end up in the water (a lake?) where the kidnapper is wounded (shot?) and eventually, I assume, dies. That's all I've got. Any ideas? I'm sure it's NOT "A Perfect World", although the plot sounds similar.

Has there ever been a war movie in which the entire movie depicted just one battle, start to finish? No flashbacks to the home front, no framing devices, not even cutaways to the Generals at HQ in a different location...just the battle?
Looking at the Guardians of the Galaxy release schedule, it doesn't open in China until October 10th. It opens in Japan on September 13th, yet opened in America on August 1st. Is there a particular release why it opens in China on such a later date, when that country is a large market?
I have a vague memory of a character in a TV show or movie trying to guess a password that he forgot. The only hint he has is that the password is "something I like".
