I'll try to keep this brief. I will likely be moving to Southern-Europe and will need to form new relationships with new doctors. Now, what from what I've been advised - they told me they want everything since I have multiple issues (PTSD from war, Anxiety over loud bangs/sounds, fireworks, Phobia of small places..) had a couple of MRIs after my car being rear-ended as well. So is it as simple (I like in Mass) as emailing/calling them and asking me to send me all my records? I don't even know what records holds. Is it what things they diagnosed me with, blood results, my medication, my MRI results. Stuff like that? Does it cost anything? Any help is extremely appreciated. Thank you all!
YANMD. In fact, I went to my doctor on Friday because I'd been experiencing some shortness of breath with exertion, but no pain. The shortness of breath resolves within five minutes of stopping activity. I'm 57 and obese. Over the past year, I've lost 30 pounds and gotten my blood pressure from high to normal through diet and exercise (this morning: 116/68). I've also been experiencing tremendous emotional stress for about six months. I've had a chronic cough ever since I had a severe upper respiratory infection in January. [more inside]

I am looking for input or even some plans that might help me keep on track and ultimately get my brain and body in better shape. My main goal is the brain shift and habit and then if I lose weight that is awesome. [more inside]
I am chronically ill. My former GP blew me off, and the stress of being constantly sick ruined my mental health, which led to a full on nervous breakdown. I'm seeing a psychiatrist this weekend. What is that like? [more inside]
I'm confined to the house for a week because of an illness (not bp-related) so can't go to the friendly local bp machine at the pharmacy. I have a home blood pressure monitor, and suddenly it won't work. It starts to inflate and then just goes off. It's pretty new. Any clue on why this machine just stopped working? [more inside]
I'd love to hear what it's like to be moved from private health insurance to medicaid in Illinois. [more inside]
My boyfriend just got diagnosed with Strep throat. His symptoms showed up Tuesday-Wednesday and I last saw him on Sunday. Now my throat hurts, but I'm also hungover. Should I get tested for strep? I'm paranoid because my tonsils are extremely reactive so when I get a throat infection it can get really really bad.
To the law people out there: I work for a small company that recently signed up with a new health insurance company. For various reasons I declined the coverage, but I am getting bombarded by requests for personal information. Here's the actual latest message that I received after I informed them that I do not wish to participate: Hi C13, For any employees at Small Company to get health insurance, you need to complete your application. All employees must complete an application, regardless of whether accepting or waiving coverage. [more inside]

I'm a music teacher and I also have severe upper respiratory allergies. I try everything I can to work on them however, I feel some parents are not holding their end of the bargain. They tend to bring their seemingly healthy child into a lesson when they're actually sick. I keep getting ill as a result and as a professional singer, I can't afford to get sick. I want to make a notice detailing what is sick before their child runs into a lesson. How should I address this issue? [more inside]
Since 2013, when I had hip arthroscopy, anytime I run I get a calf cramp. This is is either temporary that basically stops when Im done running, to basically a calf strain that will last weeks. I love doing triathlons and can overtrain the swimming and cycling to build endurance and such, but I'd love to be able to run pain free again. [more inside]
My ability to get out of bed and get ready for work is inhibited by frequent dizzy spells. Almost every time I stand I have to sit again or lean against a wall until it passes, and sitting on my bed often turns into lying down/sleeping again. Dizzy spells happen at all times of day but less frequently and usually less severe. Looking for suggestions to reduce the frequency or severity of my morning episodes. [more inside]
I got stuck with a work trip to Nicaragua, and have to admit that I'm a little concerned about the safety aspect among other things. Any tips or advice to stay safe and not worry so much? [more inside]
I am writing this while at the Mayo clinic trying to find a diagnosis for my father who is very ill. After 2-3 misdiagnosis all from extremely reputable and knowledgeable doctors my family is nearing the end of our rope. I feel like we need a bulletin board or way of posting to a site where you can get informative off-the-cuff opinions from health detectives like the New York Times Diagnosis section. Another example is this DIY geneticist who found her gene mutation by seeing a photo of an Olympic medalist, link to Pro Publica story here which is fascinating. Is there anywhere to post a medical story and perhaps get some interesting new leads? With immense love and thanks, ejourdan
I've enjoyed Tim Ferriss, Bulletproof Radio, Extreme Health Podcast and ReWild Yourself with Daniel Vitalis. What are some other good podcasts that address innovative/cutting edge health & science stuff? A little woo is OK.
If someone with asthma will be driving through the region, specifically: southbound on I-5, then east on I-10, how dangerous is the Porter Ranch methane leak to that person? I can't find any good information on exactly how widespread the methane is and in what concentrations it is on the I-5.
Family member (FM), mid-seventies, healthy (some mild arthritis), stubborn. Talked into getting blood work and doctor exam because of family history of kidney problems. Kidneys are great, everything is great, except his blood sugar levels. Doctor says "diabetic," FM very resistant to diagnosis, doctor unable to explain in a way he can understand. I'm the one he talks to most freely, so ... how do I explain this when I don't understand it very well myself? Seeking explanations, and sources if possible. [more inside]
An elderly relative is struggling with a sudden onset of enlarged prostate symptoms. We found him a good urologist. Currently he is wearing a catheter and taking medicine to shrink the prostate. He is terrified of possible surgery and other complications in this future. My relative does not use the internet. He's intelligent and a great reader. To know the facts helps him feel more in control. I'm seeking a book on prostate health and treatment. [more inside]
My stepdaughter and infant granddaughter will be visiting us in Ontario from Manitoba for 2-3 weeks over Christmas. I'm getting conflicting information about whether they need supplementary travel health insurance over and above what their Manitoba Health Card covers with inter-provincial agreements. What is covered? What isn't? How much should I expect to pay for extra coverage?
Hi all - My husband came in the door today shaken. His AAR (Access-A-Ride) trip home today involved a driver who "handled him roughly", a torn sweater, and a one-inch piece of plastic hanging out of said sweater. I think this is potentially a case of negligence. More inside. [more inside]
CPAP machine (or rather, an APAP) has been helping me feel better, I think, but I was never actually diagnosed with sleep apnea and the sleep study results didn't show any apneas. The CPAP trial has ended, and I need some help deciding if I should buy the machine. Many details after the jump! [more inside]

In the past three years I have had two fairly major bone breaks. Neither has healed (bone parts have not fused back together). Is it likely I have some condition which prevents this? What symptoms should I look for? Does this question need to be resolved before I have surgery to plate this last bone back together? [more inside]
Asking for a friend: he fell off a motorscooter while riding it and fell on his left side. The main injury was "AC separation" [a type of shoulder separation -- damage to the acromioclavicular joint -- which is _not_ the same thing as shoulder _dislocation_], type 3;means that surgery is optional but worth considering. Is there some other choices beside surgery, or doing nothing? [more inside]

I was blindsided by a termination from my job last week. In some respects it was a relief because my manager was extremely unpleasant and working around her mood swings was spiraling me into major depression and other health issues. However, I am now stuck with a 7 month job on my employment record (which obviously looks suspect), a litany of the aforementioned health issues, and no idea how to actually recover from this. I need help. Wall of text below (sorry). [more inside]

People who have low body fat due to anorexia, disease, etc., look visibly unhealthy. People such as body builders and actors who have low body fat look healthy. I guess I can understand that "little amount of fat over large amount of muscle" looks healthy while "little amount of fat over little amount of muscle" looks unhealthy, but since people generally don't lift weights with their faces, necks, etc., it would seem that their faces would look the same, but that's not the case. What causes the unhealthiness of anorexic/disease/etc. weight-loss to be apparent in the face and neck?
My husband and I are honeymooning on Gran Canaria and, in a silly mood, got henna tattoos from a stall on the oceanside. Back at the hotel, I googled for tips on henna tattoo care and discovered that the vendor used "black henna" containing PPD, which can cause severe skin reactions and further health problems. According to my understanding of how noise-cancelling headphones work, the headphones detect low-frequency ambient noise levels near my ears, and emit a frequency which cancels out the ambient noise, so that instead I hear silence in place of the noise. Although I can't hear these noise-cancelling frequencies, I'm wondering whether they might be having a cumulative negative effect on my hearing. Is it only audible frequencies that have the potential to harm? Or can prolonged exposure to inaudible frequencies have a detrimental physical effect?
I was chatting with someone who was anti-vaccine the other day in relation to the new California law, and she was telling me that there were now 67 vaccines that children had to take. I have been living with a chronic health condition for twenty years. Next weekend I am celebrating a friend's forthcoming nuptials at a weekend retreat. This involves spending a lot of time in the company of strangers - unfortunately my condition has flared up recently which means I'll have to tell these strangers that a) I may become unwell and b) how to deal with me if I become unwell. Help me figure out how to deal with this without committing any social faux-pas. [more inside]
Pieces of the ceiling in my top floor apartment fell apart, throwing a great deal of what looks like dust or sand into the air. The ceiling is made of plaster, but doesn't have the "popcorn" texture I have heard is bad. Is it likely that breathing this dust is unsafe, e.g. could it contain asbestos? [more inside]
A close relative whom I love dearly is having triple bypass surgery soon. He lives too far to drive (USA, on the opposite coast). I'm seeking opinions and other cheery ideas if you have them. [more inside]

Help! Own a condo; HOA told us the wood porches would be painted this week after a spray wash. Workers just began to spray bleach everywhere on the wood to kill black mildew (wood was untreated after porches built 4 years ago). I just watched as bleach misted down from the above porch coating everything on my porch. Help! [more inside]
