In the 90's, I had an audio CD which was a demo containing an albums-worth of tracks done by various studio musicians on (what I remember to be) Roland products. Help me find it again! [more inside]
Question posted on behalf of Mr. Killian. My husband is using a MIDI controller (ART X-15 Ultrafoot) to control a multi-effects signal processor (ART SGX2000) for his guitar. But he can't seem to figure out how to make the expression pedal perform an octave sweep. He can get it to turn on/off the effect, but no luck trying to get it to sweep (a la Tom Morello in Killing In The name Of and Like a Stone). Any MIDI masters out there can help?
I have a computer with a headphone jack on the back. Is there a good way to plug in headphones from the front - USB or otherwise? [more inside]
I have a beloved pair of Koss TD-80s that I now have to admit are ready for retirement - and of course they've been long discontinued. What should I replace them with? [more inside]
I use my computer to play music via iTunes and my computer uses two BOSE companion speakers for output. In order to play music I am faced with a total of 3 volume controls each found separately throughout iTunes, Windows 8, and my Bose speakers. How should I adjust each volume setting to achieve the best sound quality?
I use an Android phone as my main audio player (both music and podcasts). I'd like to use it to play audio wirelessly over my home theater system. The Bluetooth receiver I got for this isn't cutting it. What's the best way to do this? [more inside]
I need an mp3 player that I can control without being able to see it, using my fingers to feel and press the buttons. I currently have an iPod Shuffle, and I like it. The problem is that I need more storage. I'm looking for recommendations for mp3 players that have physical buttons for volume and skip/repeat, and 8+ GB of storage. Also, I need it to be available to buy new. I don't want to buy anything used. Thank you.
I am looking for a program that synchronizes movement through a timeline to identical times as successively displayed in a spreadsheet. Specifically, I want to play an audio file and as the file plays, I want unique elements in the audio file that I've identified at specific times to be highlighted in the spreadsheet. I want to show very detailed and subtle changes in B as they occur in A. Does anything like that exist or does it have to be built?
So I'm slowly building a company (audio and music software), and I'm starting to look at company name and branding. Naming is really hard. [more inside]

I am trying to post a couple audio recordings of a conference online. I would like to be able to link to these recordings from our website, and possibly prevent download. What are some of the best options out there for this kind of file-sharing? [more inside]
My partner has a birthday coming up and I'm looking for a gift. She is in the habit of listening to the radio on her phone while she does chores around the house or works from home, so I want to get her something a bit nicer to listen on. Specifics inside. [more inside]
Right now, if I find a video I really like on youtube with subpar volume, I have to download it and play it via VLC. Kind of ruins the playlist experience. Are there plugins or extensions that will do the same thing, ie increase the level of the audio output?
Until recently, I was able to plug headphones or audio cables running between the Line In jack on my monitor into the green Line Out jack in this picture, and successfully hear sound. I don't know what happened, but now I get nothing. There has been a weird unprompted change in my volume control settings: it looks like this when before I'm pretty sure it was a speaker icon. I can click on the slider and do a test like so, but no actual sound comes out. Can you help me troubleshoot?
iTunes and iOS are fine for occasional use, but what is a good tool for organizing extracting and useful information; e.g. manual transcription, annotation, and tagging? [more inside]
I'm interested in making perfectly-looping Vine videos of me playing guitar riffs. I'd like to shoot and edit these videos on my phone (iPhone 5, iOS 8.1), without using a desktop editor. Is there an app that allows you to hear audio while editing?.... [more inside]
Do you own headphones with these qualities? Tell me the specs! Please help me find wireless noise isolating headphones in the $50-$150 range. I will only pay near the upper end if there's a sufficient warranty and they isolate EXTREMELY well! I want these for using at home to study and relax. Extremely snowflakey details inside: [more inside]
I'm craving music that has as little sound as possible. I feel like the music that I've encountered all my life rarely has long chunks of silence. I want music that respects silence, tiptoes around it, and very, very rarely intrudes upon it. I want those intrusions to be perfect as well. Does anything come to mind? [more inside]
I'm a researcher with no film experience, and am beginning to think about an oral history project, which best case would become a short film. The theme is regional accents, so audio quality is important. [more inside]

My husband's birthday is coming up! For work, he drives and talks on the phone A LOT. How can I make make it safer - and nicer - for him to make and take calls while driving? I would also love to hear recommendations for other car-life luxuries that make a difference. [more inside]
I want to start listening to audiobooks on long hikes and drives. Specifically I'd like to start with an unabridged "Lord of the Rings," but eventually others. How do I obtain them as plain mp3s? [more inside]

There's an interview archived on mpr (NPR MN) that I'd love to download and be able to listen to "offline". I tried determining the url, but they seem to be using some tricky relay or switching servers or something. A search did turn up an "NPR Stream Recorder" by company called Abyssmedia, but couldn't find any reviews as to whether it works currently and is free from pesky adware or worse.
So i have a bit of a weird one here. I'm aware that there are speakers that can pair to eachother so you can use two as a stereo sound pair, or just two at once(E.G. jambox mini, beats pill XL). What i'm looking for though, is sort of the reverse. [more inside]
As part of my doctoral research, I will be conducting interviews with Skype for transcription and analysis. I've heard good things about Audio Hijack Pro as a tool to record audio from Skype -- both from online reviews and from faculty mentors. I've installed the latest version of Skype on my MacBook Air and am currently using the trial version of Audio Hijack Pro (I expect to pay for the full version if I can get the demo working). It works, BUT, I am consistently hearing a horrible echo and feedback when I am hijacking the audio on my Skype test calls. Help! (help...help...help...) [more inside]
Is there a relatively painless* way to pull audio off of a site like this, without using the analog loophole? [more inside]
(1) What's a cheap just plain record player that can output via rca cables? (2) Anyone know any good software or apps for doing that on a PC or mac? Just figuring something might already exist to detect different tracks. [more inside]
I need basically this. I'd rather order it from closer to home. My searches for this type of cable in the US haven't turned up anything, and I don't know enough about electronics to figure out what other names it might go by. I think it's a common type of cable so there must be something I'm missing. Thanks!

I'm hearing some odd noise in my office audio system and I'd like an opinion on what it could be. It appeared right after I replaced three old Shure SCM810 mixers with new versions of the same model. They are usually soft, as heard in this short clip here) but the occasionally sound much louder and become quite noticeable. It reminds me of the interference from Blackberry devices but it's clearly different. Could this be interference from some other device or is something else going on here? Thanks in advance.
I'd love to have an audio version of the Christian Bible that allows you to pick a specific chapter or specific verses and listen to them -- ideally in a recorded voice, not not a text-to-speech generator. I have a Kindle version of the Bible that I really like -- it's easy to navigate to a specific chapter and verse through the Kindle table of contents and menus. It's an NRSV translation from Harper Bibles. Are there any audio versions of the Bible that have similar functionality?
I have three Shure SCM810 mixers, #1 linked to #2 linked to #3, and each is about 15 years old. A few weeks ago the mics on #2 began not working until around noon when they would work just fine for the rest of the day. This seemingly random occurrence has now become predictable in that the mixer won't work in the morning but works just fine later in the day. The feed from #1, which passes thru #2, was seemingly unaffected and continued to work regardless. In addition, the mics from #3 will sometimes exhibit problems gating on in the morning, requiring a much louder speaker volume than normal, but this also seems to resolve by later in the day. Any ideas? Is this a hardware failure inside the unit? Is this something else? And why the hell does it only work later in the day?!?
Hoping to find some guided meditations that are realistic. [more inside]
I am getting a high pitch sound coming out of stereo in a pulse that would make a dog loopy. I do not have a sophisticated setup. The stereo is plugged into the wall. Apple TV is plugged into wall and TV. Router plugged into power strip along with DVD player. I switched out all RCA plugs and speaker wire. [more inside]
I just bought a Lenovo T440s laptop, and the audio is skipping when streaming it to my bluetooth speakers, no matter what distance I sit away. I had previously been using my iPhone 5s for this, and it was wonderful. Is this par for laptops, is it fixable, or am I doing something wrong? [more inside]

Help me understand the difference between 28dB, 38dB and 48dB. I'm thinking about buying a fridge, and the fridges I'm considering have noise levels ranging from 28dB to 47dB (according to the latest fridge assessment in Choice). Fridges with a 28dB noise level rating are too expensive for me, though, so I'm trying to find something I can afford but which won't annoy me too much (I'm sensitive to the noise of a buzzing fridge). What I can afford tends to be somewhere in the mid-30s dB range. But it's no use going into a noisy showroom and trying to properly gauge how a fridge will sound in my quiet home. So I'm wondering if there's a way I can test these different noise levels at home before I buy, to see what's the difference.
I have a sound recording that ideally I would like to remove the background sound from. My recording has unfortunately captured the unwanted sound of an episode of Doctor Who being played from a TV in the background. Is there a way to filter that out? [more inside]
I need to e-mail a small audio file to my office in such a way that it automatically plays as soon as the e-mail is opened by the recipient. Can this be done and, if so, how? I can embed the audio into a graphic if necessary or create it in any format. The file wouldn't be larger than maybe 1MB. My office uses Lotus Notes v8.5 mostly on PCs but also a few Macs. Thanks in advance.
I want to buy a new car stereo, but have no idea how to google for the features I'm looking for. What I really want is a double din stereo that has a usb port on the front where I can plug in my iphone 5 and play it through the stereo. Now comes the hard part, I want to control the iphone from the iphone. Not through the stereo interface. In otherwords, I want to use the USB port as an Aux out. [more inside]

Even with the ringer set on maximum volume, I tend not to hear my phone ringing when I'm out walking on a busy London street. I'd like a ringtone that will be audible over traffic noise, but not be earsplitting or annoying when I'm indoors. Are there any acoustic properties (other than sheer loudness) that I should look for in a ringtone to help it stand out against a background of car engines and other street noise?
