What's that site

I remember discovering a site in, god, 2007 or 2008 I think, possible through Metafilter, that had a theme every month (I very much remember the theme 'Anarchy') and published a number of essays around that theme. Not essays by readers, essays by scholars. I think the essays somehow had to be written in reaction to each other. It was super interesting, but I lost track of it and now I don't know what it was called anymore, or even whether it still exists. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

How do I change the bulb in this light fixture?

I can't for the life of me get the hang of changing the bulb in this wall-mounted lighting fixture. I've done it before but it always takes me ages, I'm never quite sure how I did it, and this time I just can't seem to get it open no matter what I do. [more inside]

Is this normal? Toddler day care edition

Mini-me is starting day care at a place that takes the toddlers to a local park every day. I'm cool with this (wearing him out FTW!) but they apparently have the class walk there — about six blocks through a dense urban area. I was a little surprised by this practice for such little kids (18-36 months). Husband is really concerned about the whole thing and I'm not sure what to think. Is this actually a totally reasonable thing for toddlers to do in a group care environment? [more inside]

Bipolar Oven

My oven is bipolar: when I follow the instructions for frozen pizza, it's done in about 66% of the time, i.e. instructions say 18min, it's done in 12, usually less - 18min would burn it to a crisp. Thicker things, like pork roasts or heating a pre-cooked ham, are barely tepid in the center at the time in their instructions, i.e. instructions say 45min, takes over an hour to get to the recommended temperature. The oven is a generic, in-every-apartment-I've-ever-had kind of stove. What's it's problem? [more inside]

Best starter mattress?

Outfitting my new apartment and I'm in need of a queen-size mattress... price range $200-$600. I like soft beds but don't have a great back either, and generally I sleep well in hotel beds. Already have an Ikea bed and slightly flexible slatted base--can I put a memory foam mattress directly on top of this setup? Otherwise, what mattress should I acquire and where, which will arrive in under a week? Thanks in advance!

We've been screwed by a vehicle buyer. What should we do first?

My partner and I currently live in PA. Before moving here from CA, my partner sold a vehicle to a private party (I was not a part of this transaction). That guy never registered the vehicle and collected a ton of tickets.. which he never paid. The state of CA just auto-deducted over $800 from his bank account to cover these tickets. Rent is due next week, and our landlord is kind of a drag. We're a little overwhelmed. This is terrible! What happens now?

Why does McAfee have a problem with my website?

So I recently completed a project, and was sharing the news with people on Facebook - but Facebook blocked the link to my website because it was apparently on some spammy/malware blacklist. I did some investigation, and my site comes up clean on every security scan thing I tried, except McAfee SiteAdvisor. It seems likely that it's a false positive, possibly due to my shared hosting. If there's a legitimate security issue, though, I'd like to find out what it is so I can fix it - but I don't know how I can do that. [more inside]

How to install/extract a font from a .otf file

I've extracted a .otf font from my Kobo Touch. I'd like to install it on Windows, but Windows can't handle it and neither can any of the font editing programmes I've downloaded. I believe that the file contains multibyte characters. I have tried right clicking and choosing install. I've tried font forge, and several other font related applications. I just get varying error messages saying that it's not a valid font file, despite it working on the Kobo. If it's relevant, the font is Gothic MB101.
