We currently use the streaming capabilities of our DVD player. The UI is very sluggish to respond, and rewinding/fast forwarding/scrubbing is a nightmare. We use Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu, primarily, with a smattering of YouTube. [more inside]
So, there's someone who has been a real absolutely mean apathetic narcissistic jerk of all jerks with my husband and me (mostly, me). It is a close relative. We can't ignore them (too close), we can't avoid them, and when they visit they take over our lives for a couple of months every few years (2-3? if we're lucky). I have never hated anyone as much. How do I not let it influence me? [more inside]
I have a nearly four year old who is mesmerized by all things aviation, plus I have a mass of airline miles and hotel points. Where to go? [more inside]
I have a 24 ounce bottle of Clorox Control Bleach Crystals, but I lost the dosing cap. I would like to know the the volume in fluid ounces of line 1 and line 2, which is referenced on the instructions on the back of the bottle. I tried calling Clorox about this, but they couldn't / wouldn't help. If you have a bottle of this stuff in your laundry room, could you measure the dose for line 1 and line 2 for me? Thanks!
Mr. Getawaysticks and I are attempting to move the Downriver area of Michigan (this is ~30 miles south of Detroit or so). The rental market in this area is really expensive compared to what it would be in monthly mortgage payments. Our credit is fine and we have stable jobs, so we should buy, right? But what if we want to leave the area in 2 years? [more inside]
Can I easily recover my Outlook accounts and folder setup after Windows 10 rebuilt my computer, or must I do though piece by piece and rebuild from folders I had in a backup? [more inside]

I'm in Italy for a little while and figuring out the restaurant customs — including purchasing a liter of flat or sparkling water at each meal. Today, I was still a little thirsty but had to run, and asked if I could take the half-empty (glass, but obviously commercial) bottle. The server said I couldn't, and I asked if the same was true for plastic bottles. She said that, in either case, it's not appropriate to take leftover water. What's up with that (assuming it's generally true)?
Pretty much as above - can you tell/point me to a great tortilla soup recipe that doesn't use a slow cooker? I love love love tortilla soup and decided it's about time I learned how to make it. I don't have a slow cooker though and have no interest in buying one. I live in south Texas so I can get pretty much any ingredient required easily. I know I can google for recipes but I'd rather get tried and true recipes. Thanks!

Just set up a new Echo for my mother, and we are having an issue that is small, but sort of irritating. Alexa is answering all queries (as best she can), but the little "bong" that acknowledges that she is being addressed is not happening. Glitch, or do the newer ones just not do it anymore? This has proven difficult to Google.

I'm in the market for a new computer mouse, and I want to be able to actually try it out for a few minutes before I buy it, just to make sure it feels comfortable in my hand. I'm currently in London, and I'll be in the Washington, DC area in a few weeks. Is there any store in either city that has a wide variety of mice out of their packages and available for customer use?

I missed an appointment today as I didn't hear any of the FIVE alarms I had set in my phone, despite it being on the desk right beside me at the time. It seems Android's version of Google' Calendar's reminder sound is a meek little beep. My version is a klaxon. Is there a way to fix this? [more inside]

I recently bought this pendant light from the CB2 store here, which is having a closing down sale. Despite it being sold locally (Singapore), upon some inspection I've found that the light is likely to be the exact same model as the one sold in the US (i.e. only rated for US 110V, and not UK/Singapore 240V). The guy at the store said that I could connect it directly to the mains here, but I'm not too certain. Should I try to get it rewired? [more inside]
Years and years ago I saw a (what was probably) a tv-movie on a network like WGN or KTLA. It must have been filmed in the mid-90s. It was about two women who met while being treated for breast cancer (I think). [more inside]

It may have been around 1969 when I saw this movie. I remember it as a realistic, set-in-the-present, "new hollywood" style of movie (easy rider, two-lane blacktop) and for some reason it's stayed in my head. Anyway the few specifics I remember are... [more inside]

I have an older house in Seattle with an old tree in the back yard. It has vines growing 2/3rds to 3/4ths of the way up it. (Here are some pictures.) I am looking for some examples of controversial artworks created in, say, the last 50 years or so. Ideally I would like to avoid simplistic one-liners like Andres Serrano's 'Piss Christ' and focus on art that is provocative in more complex ways. And I would like to completely avoid anything controversial for religious reasons.

We’re home-owners in Vancouver, BC. We love our house, but it’s needs some minor work on the exterior. Some of the wood trim needs repair, and the trim, fencing, and deck need painting. The majority of the work is the painting, and we are unsure of the best way to get this done. We are not handy, and so need to hire someone. [more inside]

I have a bunch of friends and acquaintances in a particular career for whom operating WordPress as a user is just too overwhelming and complicated. Also, none of the themes or plugins I'm finding are actually geared to meet their industry's information presentation requirements. So do I learn WordPress theme and plugin development so I can wrestle it around to be what they need, or do I create my own lightweight CMS that does what they need while minimizing and simplifying the user backend?
