Can anyone help identify this design (I know it was at least used on sheets and wallpaper, if not more products)? This is a design on a product line that has since been discontinued. I'd like to know who used to sell these products and how to find them. Thanks! [more inside]
Sometime, in front of chemical names, you will see three numbers, like this: 1,1,1 Triclorotriflouroethane. (to quote one example with which I am familiar.) What do they denote, and where can I find out more? (I realize that this may be simply a lack of Google-fu but I do have an underlying reason for needing to know.) Mefi chemists, help!
This is for fiction: What might happen if a parent showed up at a PTA meeting and started making people uncomfortable by going on and on about the power of satan or some such thing. I mean, what might happen officially? [more inside]
I'm in Munich for three days this summer (around the last of week of June) and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for hostels? I'd prefer a social atmosphere but nothing too party-oriented. Also, what are some must-see and must-do things for a short visit to Munich?
What's the film that the clip at 36/37s in this ILM show-reel is from? (Guy in front of army throws sword into the ground and it sets on fire)

Crocheters, I'm on vacation and really, truly want to get this yarn as my souvenir. I can't remember my Ravelry password, and the site isn't sending me a reset email. Will you please suggest some google-able patterns so I can make sure I get enough? It seems to be light worsted, with a 4mm hook. My skill level is intermediate. Děkuji!
I need help identifying this bird. A fried took the photo while traveling in Texas a few days ago. The bird was seen in the urban area of Dallas, TX. Thanks!
Please help me identify this musical trill/riff/thingy. I know three notes and a chord. It's been stuck in my head for days. I'll detail everything I can think of that may help. [more inside]

I have been living with a chronic health condition for twenty years. Next weekend I am celebrating a friend's forthcoming nuptials at a weekend retreat. This involves spending a lot of time in the company of strangers - unfortunately my condition has flared up recently which means I'll have to tell these strangers that a) I may become unwell and b) how to deal with me if I become unwell. Help me figure out how to deal with this without committing any social faux-pas. [more inside]
I was just told that trigger warnings are either useless or do more arm, without any citations. Do you know any serious study that either proves or disproves this hypothesis?
I can't remember much about it but I'm trying to remember the name of a Classic Mac-era program that let you create animations in the black-and-white style of Dark Castle. It came with a demo that scrolled and had funny stuff happening in it.
So, I have a standard Notes app on my iPhone and iPad. Lots of problems lately with reading/deleting mail on both, particularly with Yahoo!, so I deleted my Yahoo! and Gmail accounts and downloaded the particular apps for each instead. Then I made a note in the Notes app and to my dismay saw that most of my notes had disappeared. I googled this and learned that the Notes app may have assigned my notes to the email accounts I deleted (why?) but searching those online email accounts has only uncovered some, not all, my missing notes. iCloud doesn't have them either. Are they gone forever, hive mind? Can you think of something I've missed?

It's 1:30 AM, well after my roommate typically comes home, and she's not here. I wouldn't typically worry, except she also hasn't come by to feed/walk her dog, which I've never known her to do. I'm supposed to inherit some Berkshire Hathaway shares currently in a US Fidelity fund. Catch: I'm a Canadian resident US citizen. Fidelity wants to transfer the shares to a Fidelity account, but won't let me establish an account because I'm Canadian resident. Will another US brokerage allow me to establish a US account, or do I need a Canadian brokerage? And if so, are there any ramifications I should be aware of?

My GF and I are currently long distance, though only for a short while longer. We're planning for me to visit her at the end of the month for four days. Due to manic work commitments and sickness, I was looking forward to having this (long) weekend to myself, but my GF has said that my not coming to visit has made her feel "not nurtured." I don't know how to address this in an adult fashion; advice is welcome (snowflakes abound…) [more inside]
I have managed to accumulate (over time and several bad buying decisions) three pairs of quality-make men's shoes of different types, all in nearly-new condition, that I don't want or can't wear, and I'd like them to go to someone who could really use them. The thing they have in common is each has a non-obvious flaw that would cause buyer's regret in anyone who actually paid money for them, so Goodwill is out. [more inside]
A few weeks ago, I bought a cute little cow-shaped pencil sharpener on clearance from Staples. Sample photo, except mine was blue and white. It was a big hit with my students. The sharpener's gone missing and I'd like to be able to replace it and possibly buy several in bulk, but am not having much luck. [more inside]
I have a pannier and bicycle, and I need to mount the one to the other. The bike is a ~1985 Schwinn and the pannier is a Blackburn EX. I’ve tried a Blackburn MTN rack, but my heels bump the bag. Ideally it’d be about 4-6 inches further back and still level along the top (currently tilts slightly back). Do racks come in different sizes I need to know? Are there some bike/bag combos that don’t work? Do people shorten their cranks instead of moving the bags? Is there some crucial measurement I should learn?

This 7 minute youtube video shows colour footage of Berlin in 1945 right after the war. The whole thing is pretty cool but I'm specifically interested in identifying this statue which appears at the 2 minute mark. I'm fairly sure it's not in Berlin anymore but maybe it is? Can anyone identify this statue? I'd like to know if it is still in the city somewhere and if not, what happened to it. Thanks!
I'm co-writing a theme and blurb for a conference with a colleague. The theme is "Convergence|Divergence." My pal has added an opening that is driving me insane, but I see his point. We're going to Paso this weekend! There's some recs on the Green from 8 years ago but many tasting rooms have closed and opened since then. What's your favorite winery to visit in the Paso area? (If you have a favorite coffee shop in San Luis Obispo that would be great to know too!)
Main uses: Reading (& some marking up of) pdfs. Reading books. Presenting power-point slides on a projector. Taking notes. Web browsing. Potential other uses: word processing, sketching, and maybe even laptop replacement for light work. Additional info: I'm a very content user of Android on my smartphone, but I do most of my work in Windows. I was leaning towards an Android tablet or 2-in-1, but now I'm wondering about a Windows 8.1 one.
I really can't think of good examples of songs where women have the lead vocals and a man / group of men only jump in for the chorus / the la-la-las / whatever. (There's a song on Exile In Guyville, but that's all I've got.) Please help me out with some tunes. Thanks!
I'm going to be auditioning for a chorus in August, and I'd really like to brush up on my sight-singing, since that's part of the audition. I had rather not take a class, so I'm looking for other resources. Snowflakes inside. [more inside]

So after a lifetime of wanting to visit the US, I've been invited to a conference in Pasadena in September, and so am tagging on a week of holiday at the end. I really want to go to San Francisco and explore the surrounding area, however looking at hotels, ones that are in guides or previous AskMeFi posts as being around $100-150 per night are coming up as $300-400 per night, so 4-5 nights of stay is around $1000. About 20 years ago, I needed to set up a corporation to work freelance for a large Ontario film production company. A couple of different accountants over the years advised me to hang on to the corporation and they allocated my yearly salary as a management fee. That paradigm shifted this past year and now I'm wondering if invoicing through an incorporated entity is worth the expense and hassle. [more inside]

I'm closing my LLC. Am I still on the hook for recurring expenses that were set up for the now-defunct company? Example: the LLC had a contract with an alarm company for monitoring, and there are still several years left on the contract. Does my closed LLC have to keep paying the alarm company? I'm in Washington state, if that matters. I know y'all ain't my law-talking persons, but just in principle, is this a liability that is limited?
I wonder if having 4-5 Word files open (including 2 always, just for for convenience) will drain my Dell Inspiron 11 3000 series battery quicker than just using one file at a time. I wonder: Does more tabs being open in a broswer mean more battery drain? Is a nonactive YouTube tab best being closed till used? I wonder if even having calendar, weather -- stuff I seldom open -- pinned to my taskbar run the battery down more quickly. Same question regarding having several Adobe Acrobat Reader PDFs ready at hand...just comic book pdfs. These things take so little space on the hard drive, so I figure they'd also use less RAM than other actual heavy programs, thus would be easiest on the battery-time availability. Correct me if I'm wrong, but having Foobar, Windows Media Player, and Spotify open at the same time will drain battery faster than having one going, as well as slow things down generally? Add to that the Word, Acrobat, a broswer... Thanks.
I met up with this guy from OkCupid two weeks ago, and he seemed really charming. We've met up around three times to do various activity-oriented things in the city.
