I'm looking for reading material written by or about political, progressive scientists who had/have productive technical careers as well as being politically active, and who saw/see their research in the context of political activism.

Looking for short PDFs summarising topics relevant to UK politics, probably posted to Metafilter in the last couple of years. These were produced by civil servants or advisors to explain the broad concepts of a topic (e.g. Nuclear power) to a politician in just a few pages. Thanks.

Looking for specific suggestions of particularly innovative successful/popular US national-level grassroots right-wing civics activist groups (can be conservative, libertarian, religious, non-religious etc. etc; but not extremist) for an academic research project. We are especially interested in youth-focussed/web & new media-savvy/participatory culture savvy groups. Any research report (academic or non-academic) recommendations are most welcome too.

What studies and books are there about the economics of scientific research? I'm interested in a few questions including does giving out grants to University based researchers produce more startups and more highly regarded refereed papers than institutions like NIH or CSIRO? The only book I know of that looks at this is the book
The Economic Laws of Scientific Research which looks interesting but is also described as a polemic.

I am looking for reasonably well-known websites that deal with government corruption. I live in the United States, so I have a particular interest in any US corruption, but I'm interested in other countries as well. Logically, it is easy to find information on corruption of countries we don't like, so I'm mainly looking for websites dealing with the US and its allies.
