I got a Vitamix Pro 300 last winter. The container has developed a crack, and it is being replaced under warranty with a whole new container. I have been told to dispose of the old container when the new one arrives. My question is - if I were to buy a smaller 16oz container from eBay without blades, could I transfer the blades and retainer nut from the cracked 32oz short container into the smaller 16oz container? I would do this if I can in order to give myself some more options to blend smaller amounts of food! [more inside]
A contractor for a local utility shut off gas in the neighborhood to work on pipes, then offered to relight my boiler. He ran a test and the gas boiler (water, not steam) was emitting carbon monoxide (3000 ppm) so he capped the pipe and told us the gas couldn’t be turned on until it was repaired or replaced. I need to get a LEB bulb for this headlamp. It comes with a regular incandescent cheapo light bulb. bulb dia. is .281 inches and length is .486 inches. It is powered by 2 AA batteries. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I'm looking for needle nose pliers that work in the opposite direction of regular needle nose pliers. [more inside]
The new version is very different, all the recommendations I've found just don't work the way I like...various RSS readers mostly. Looking for something that has minimal tapping and swiping while being headline and source dense. The old version was a big grid. There was a similar question last year here but it was for iOS.
I've found an awesome mid-century lamp in great condition EXCEPT for the fact that it's missing a globe. I've found a seller on Etsy who has a different lamp with the exact same globes. They've got these 2 inch screw fitter bases. I've looked - oh how I've looked for ones, at dozens of sites and struck out everywhere. Screw threads on lamp globes seem to be as rare as hen's teeth. In lieu of buying two lamps to have one functional one - who can point me to a place where I can buy a replacement or have one made?
Had a blocked sewer this morning. Plumbers unblocked it, charged $900 for the unblocking and CCTV investigation. The camera showed a large hole at one section of the (clay) pipe, and tree roots at another point. The plumber says the whole pipe should be replaced, and that it can't be relined. This would involve disconnecting the bathroom plumbing, jackhammering up 2x4m of concrete, moving the hot water cylinder which is currently in the way, putting in new PVC pipes that bypass the old broken one, and repouring concrete, installing inspection hatches this time. Removal of waste included. The quote is $14,250 plus GST. Is this anywhere near what I should expect? [more inside]
Is there any way to get a replacement motherboard for a Lenovo Y500 laptop? It's a relatively new computer. I'm surprised by what my repair guy is telling me. [more inside]
I'd like bluetooth to connect my phones to it and the standard built-in one doesn't offer that. I've taken it apart to add a 3rd party AUX but that only worked for about 6 months so now I've decided to replace it all but how? When I look it mentions you need adapter cables and such? There seems to be no one-stop shop. Anyone suggest a working combo? [more inside]
Whilst in LA recently my girlfriend bought this t-shirt of a smiley heart face. She loves it, but it got ruined in transit. She is unhappy. Can you help us find it again? [more inside]
The iPhone (2010-2015, RIP) in my pocket has finally perished and I have to look for a replacement. I am in southern Ontario and have been dealing with Fido mostly problem-free for fifteen years, but I am open to other suggestions. I am all over Canada frequently for work so coverage, it is a thing. Data is less important - my current plan has the lowest possible amount and I think I have exceeded the cap two or three times in five years. [more inside]
I have a set of Tupperware's small Hourglass Salt & Pepper Shakers (like these). I no longer have the tops, and exhaustive searching to find replacements has come up empty. Anyone know of a site that I can order just the shaker seal/caps for these in the U.S. without spending a bazillion dollars? [more inside]
Are independent phone repair shops an okay place to have iPhone batteries replaced? [more inside]
Given that the replacement windows are otherwise of similar quality, does one material provide an advantage over the other? Or will short / long term performance be essentially the same?
I had a pair of Rockport Day to Night Cap Toes that I really liked and eventually wore completely out. Ideally I'd get another pair, but they're no longer available. What can I get that looks like them, or do I need to go bespoke? [more inside]
My girlfriend has a herniated disk in her neck, for which disk replacement seems to be the best option. Her medical insurance isn't cooperating, and so we're starting to look into private options and medical tourism. Any advice on going down that route, particularly the medical tourism route, since it seems important to find a good surgeon (and we're not quite sure how to do that abroad).
It's pretty simple, really: how often do you replace your vacuum cleaner? [more inside]
My 3 year old Dell Latitude E6420 laptop needs a new battery. It had a replacement already about 2 years ago after the one it shipped with just fell out one day (!) but other than that has had no battery problems. Anyone know how I can get a reliable replacement **here in Germany**? I would ideally like a Dell or Dell-recognised component as this is my primary device and it needs to be reliable.
Have you successfully purchased a replacement battery for your laptop online? Are there any particular retailers you'd recommend? [more inside]
Hey, all. I have a three-year-old Gateway laptop (NV55C) that was having battery problems, so I bought a replacement battery from Amazon. When I got the replacement battery, it included a list of battery models it replaces, and the model of my old battery was not among them. Is this bad? [more inside]
Crap! I dropped the tablet to my (fairly) new Asus Padfone X face down on the tile in the kitchen. Where do I find the parts to replace the pieces? [more inside]
I tried on my husband's favorite belt this morning and broke it. He's had this thing since he was a teenager, and we're both closer to retiring than teening at this point. I believe he bought it at a head shop in Tempe, AZ in the mid-90s. Have you seen this belt? Is there somewhere I can purchase a new one?
My mom had a full hip replacement on August 22nd. 12 days later, she had a TIA. The ER lab tests (MRI, CAT scan, and electrocardiogram) said there was no sign of a blockage. 2 days later, her primary care doctor said it was probably caused by a blood clot related to her surgery, and she shouldn't make any changes other than taking an aspirin, avoiding alcohol, and monitoring her blood pressure at home. Does this sound like a normal treatment plan for someone who had a TIA most likely caused by a hip surgery-related blood clot? [more inside]
My wife's Canon 5D MkII seems to be bricked, and I'm looking for input on what the issues might be and if it's reparable (or worth it to repair it). [more inside]
My 2001 Honda Accord was sideswiped and I had to replace the driver's side mirror. The first replacement shook and was an aftermarket part, so I paid an extra $150 out of pocket (the other driver's insurance covered the first one) to have a Honda mirror attached today. I just took it for a test drive, and I think it shakes less... but it still shakes. Like it barely noticeably shifts at 30mph and distinctly vibrates at 60+mph. What do I do now? [more inside]

We're first time homebuyers, and getting a little overwhelmed thinking about all the things we might have to fix and/or replace in whatever house we buy, and how that should affect what we're willing to pay for a home. What are the most expensive (and/or frustrating to fix) things we should be keeping an eye out for and factoring into deciding whether to make an offer on a house and the offer price (i.e. adjusting up/down compared to comparable homes)? I no longer want to read the (free) San Francisco Chronicle online because of their vile, racist, homophobic comment section. I try incredibly hard not to read the comments, but it's impossible, and what I'd really like to do is no longer reward SFGate with clicks. [more inside]
So I have been working on my house and making it energy efficient. It is now time to replace the basement windows in my split level. One double wide window needs to be replaced with one that opens to meet code, but the other three single wide windows do not. Would I be better installing glass blocks in those three, not vented, or installing either a picture, slider, or another type of insulated vinyl replacement window? If I should do a replacement window, which type should I use? [more inside]

So, my parents (in their 80s), like many older folks, lost internet connection when Microsoft shut down the former WebTV service in September. It was a perfect solution for them and it seems nothing has emerged to satisfactorily replace it, but we have special problems since they can only get dial-up in their rural US location, and cellular coverage is spotty and complicated. Plus I'm on a different continent (and not so good at that end of computer literacy anyway – especially since things work a bit differently where I am). Still, I'd like to know what replacement solutions people have come up with among those of you who have dealt with a similar problem, especially if you can't be on hand to address ongoing problems that might pop up. I'm pretty sure I'll be leaving my job by the end of the year, and I'll have to turn in my iPad (1st gen 3G). Help me think this through? [more inside]
My fiance hates lunch, and every day it is a "thing" for him to try to decide what to have for lunch. He doesn't want to have to bother with it any more. He said "I wish there was just some magic pill I could take that would keep me full and be healthy and make me not have to deal with lunch any more". So now we're thinking meal replacement bars so that he doesn't have to think about it any more. Suggestions? [more inside]

I have a Citizen Eco-Drive watch that I received last year, and I love it. But the leather strap is coming apart, and the only "real" replacement straps I can find cost $70. Are there any straps that will fit the watch's curved case without costing an arm and a leg? [more inside]
One of the nice things about Google Reader was that you could set up a folder and then get an RSS feed from that folder. I used this to put a kind of self-updating blogroll on a WordPress site. Do any of the alternatives provide the same facility? I can't see it on Feedly or the Old Reader, and can't see it mentioned in earlier threads.
My 2001 Honda Accord and I are about to move 800 miles away. Before I make that 13 hour drive, I took it to the mechanic for a check up. I like my mechanic, but he's saying this is my call: on top of other stuff I need to do, he's recommending - but not saying I need to - replacing the timing belt and water pump which were changed 7 years and 52,000 miles ago (in 2006 at 60,000 miles). I drive it a few thousand miles a year. It's $626.31. Complicating factor: I don't know how long it will take me to find a mechanic I trust in my new location. Should I?
_Other_ than Best Buy, how/where would one obtain a replacement car audio system near Durham, NC? I have no idea where to shop. I'm OK with installing it myself if it's not too involved, but installed is good too. [more inside]
My SO and I have a 1999 Lexus ES 300 with low miles (ca. 80K). We use it mostly on the weekend for errands. The car is in more or less good driving condition, but parking on the streets and Boston winters are taking their toll cosmetically. Dealership recommended $5100 in repairs on its recent checkup--nearly the value of the car--and we're wondering which repairs are worthwhile, which are overpriced and should be done elsewhere, and which can be skipped. I realize this is an incredibly weird question. I'm having a total hip replacement, and I would like to keep the bones they take outta me. Is it possible the hospital will let me, or are there laws against this? I live in the U.S.
I have a few Bormioli Rocco Frigoverre glass pitchers with hermetic lids like this one and these, but one is missing a lid and the other lid is beginning to crack, after long wear. It seems like the factory does not sell replacement lids. Anyone else able to get replacement lids? If not, what have people done for a replacement?

So I have my father's father's retirement pocketwatch. My father gave it to me almost twenty years ago and it has never worked. Recently I pulled it out of the china cabinet and tried to fix it myself following some youtube tutorials. Unfortunately I forgot that I am clumsy and bad at not losing small things. Long story slightly longer, I lost/broke a couple pieces. At that point I took it to a jeweler/watchmaker and he could not fix my mistake. Now I'm wondering if I can just replace the entire internal mechanism of the watch while keeping the part that has my Grandpa's name on it. I'm having no luck finding anything online. [more inside]
