The Financial Burden of Friends' Friends

Three months ago, I stupidly put down my credit card to pay for my best friend's bachelorette weekend away in late May. The bride, four other bridesmaids, and me are staying at an expensive AirBnB, and the other women--none of whom I know well--promised they'd pay me back ASAP if I booked the place. Surprise! Everyone's ignored my very polite emails requesting repayment. Do I involve the bride as an enforcer or accept the money's gone because I'm stupid? [more inside]

Pay off your credit card with a loan - good idea/bad idea?

Is it really a good idea to get one of those "Pay off your credit card" loans? I am currently swimming in credit card debt & finance charges & I'm getting sick of it. I see ads for these things on Mint but I'm skeptical. I'm just kind of afraid of getting involved in something that will just make my situation worse & more expensive. I was wondering if any real people had positive experiences with this type of product. [more inside]

Do student loan repayment plans

My student loans are past-due and I can't afford the minimum payments. I need more assistance for the next two years and I'm concerned I won't be eligible anymore. The loan servicers website offers income-based repayment plans along with other options, but support isn't available to answer questions until next Monday. I'm really freaking out... Can anyone shed some light on the consequences of repayment plans, deferments, and forbearance? [more inside]

Creit card repayment question

Credit card repayment question.... I'm helping a friend put together a credit card repayment plan/strategy and i want to double check that my common sense is right. Assuming 3 cards with similar balances and different APRs, (and we'll assume that those won't change significantly though I know they might), and a fixed amount available to pay each month. I think it makes sense to pay as much as possible to the card with the highest APR until it it's fully re-payed before moving on to the next highest APR, all the while paying the minimum payments on the other cards to avoid fees.... Please help me better understand repaying my student loans.

In 1997, I started making student loan payments, five months after graduating from graduate school. Shortly there after, in a sudden moment of sheer, blinding stupidity, I consolidated my loans, reducing my monthly payment and doubling the term of my loan. I do not want to make payments for 10 more years, however, I cannot figure out how to calculate the money I would save py doubling my payments this November. [more inside]
