My SO and I have a 1999 Lexus ES 300 with low miles (ca. 80K). We use it mostly on the weekend for errands. The car is in more or less good driving condition, but parking on the streets and Boston winters are taking their toll cosmetically. Dealership recommended $5100 in repairs on its recent checkup--nearly the value of the car--and we're wondering which repairs are worthwhile, which are overpriced and should be done elsewhere, and which can be skipped.

I have an ancient Thinkpad 570, and the hard drive finally died. Hardware not recognized. I've pulled out the old one (it rattles ominously) and am wondering if I can replace it with a new generic laptop drive, rather than having to go with overpriced proprietary stuff.

MacRepairPrice Filter : Trying to figure out on which deal is the best, being the proud owner of a macbook (MAC OSX version 10.4.11), now about a year old, I wonder wether or not i should go for the extra 2-year guarantee, which will cost me 200€ a year.

Due to clumsiness on my part, I have lost the battery cover to my new Samsung d807 slide phone. Both Rogers and Samsung say they can't help me. I need to source a new cover, either online or somewhere in southern Ontario.

What is it? Is it possible to repair? Or where on Gods green earth can I get a replacement? Slowly increasing white strip with sporadic coloured lines throughout on my notebook screen. Funnily enough it is more frustrating to look for the answer than it is to just try to ignore it.

Just recently my friend dropped his beloved 17" Powerbook G4, while the end result was pretty bad, as in the screen was completely smashed, the rest of the unit is still in good condition. Luckily I have been able to find a replacement screen at a pretty good price, and I am looking to replace/attach it myself. The only trouble is I don't know how hard this will really be. Which is why I am seeking your experience and advice.

At what point is it not worth putting any more money into keeping an old car running, and just going out and getting a new one? What's the equation?
