Our new rental house is turning out to be a ton of work (for us) a money pit (for us and our landlady) and just an all-around major problem. I need advice on when it's worth it to stick it out, and when to cut your losses.

I have bad credit and I'm looking to rent an apartment in San Francisco. I tried to get a place early last month before I arrived and had a bad experience (very judgy and insulting leasing company) over my credit. Now I'm feeling really nervous. Any suggestions to help me feel confident going into apartment viewings?

My friend, renting a room in a house, has found that the people he was renting from didn't actually own the house. He came home to find an eviction notice on his door and the locks changed. The fake landlords have moved all of their stuff out, changed their phone number, and are gone without a trace. Now my friend can't get to his stuff.

My SO and I (unmarried) are combining two apartments into one. We both currently have renters insurance of our own, each from our own car insurance company (not the same company). We are not interested in combining our car insurance under one account. Should we get renters insurance for both of us from one of our car insurance companies, or should we each retain our separate renters insurance that covers "my own stuff"?

A tale of two houses: House owned by agency A - our first choice in a rental. House owned by agency B - our second, but still cool choice. We've been offered House B (small applause). House A, however, is being held up in the approval process, because my boyfriend's old landlord wont verify that he rented from them. Guess who the landlord is?

Video camera rental advice: I'm looking to make an exceedingly simple, short video (an art project, if you will) and I'm looking to rent a fairly high quality camera to do it with. The condition is that I need a camera that can function reasonably (I'm not expecting miracles, here, but I don't want horribly washed-out, grainy business) in a very low-light situation. I'm applying for a small grant to do this, and I can't afford more than maybe $200 for a day's rental, $250 tops.

I will be at a conference in Lausanne, Switzerland next week. When the conference is over, I have a few days before I have to fly home. I think I'd like to rent a motorcycle and spend that time riding in the mountains. Does anyone have any recommendations for going about this? Should I try to rent the bike ahead of time, or just do it once I'm there? Can I expect to find a place that will rent bikes in Lausanne, or should I plan on going back to Geneva to get one?

TenantFilter: So I gave permission for the building manager to let a contractor into my apartment to do some fix up work. Not only does she not let him in personally, which is what I thought I okayed, but she leaves the key to another tenant to pass on to the contractor when he shows up. Am I overreacting in thinking that was way out of line? How do I go about responding to something like this?
