At the end of the summer I'll be selecting and moving into my first apartment after living in a house with roommates for several years, and I'm looking to discover what things I don't know that I don't know.

Recently my toilet stopped working. I emailed my landlord to ask to send a plumber. The landlord suggested the I try to use a plunger and liquid plumber. I did both but was still unable to fix the problem. I told the landlord this in writing over email. A plumber was sent and fixed the problem. Now landlord is saying the I will have to pay this cost from the security deposit. Help?
Should I be responsible for this charge?
How should I proceed with my landlord?
Thank you in advance.

Asking for a couple of friends living in Washington, D.C. They signed a lease and put down security deposits to rent a two-bedroom condo with move in on Saturday. The guy just called them and said that he's changed his mind, and he doesn't want to rent the place anymore and he is currently living there. What can they do about it since they haven't actually moved in yet?

Apartment lease economics: I'm planning to move to a new apartment. I'm considering waiting until winter to move in, because leases are cheaper in the off season. But will my rate just go up when it's time to renew a year later?

I will be renting my house to a friend shortly (June). What resources (web sites, books, etc.) would you recommend on such various issues as; drawing up a lease, potential problems & how to avoid them, things I might be forgetting, etc.

Renter's nightmare: Just signed a one year lease for a fairly expensive condominium. Deposit and partial first month are paid, not moved in. When we went to do a pre-move cleanup this weekend, the place stank of dog urine. What now? Help!

Currently renting a room in a couple's house-- they are my housemates and landlords. I am not liking the situation-- it's extremely dirty. How can I make the situation better, or broach the subject of leaving after I just moved in?

My friend, renting a room in a house, has found that the people he was renting from didn't actually own the house. He came home to find an eviction notice on his door and the locks changed. The fake landlords have moved all of their stuff out, changed their phone number, and are gone without a trace. Now my friend can't get to his stuff.

My roommates kicked out our 4th roommate mid-month without consulting me and have since made several decisions that I believe have prevented us from finding someone for next month. I am not on the lease and my opinion has totally been discounted in this process, do I have any ethical (not legal) obligation to kick in for next month's rent?

Ontario tenant filter: We are renting without a lease on a month-to-month basis: one of our roomies is really losing the plot and is about to be delinquent on paying rent for the 2nd month in a row. Are we going to go down with him? (the LL left a message last time saying 'Id like to remind you guys that the apartment is being rented for $900, not the $300 you individually pay'. But my dad seems to think that we are under "rooming house" rules where the LL is accepting rent from us individually and as long as I pay my $300 I dont have to worry. The only thing is that I cant find any info on what happens when you dont have a lease on the ORHT website.
