Should I tell a prospective landlord that I'm pregnant?

I'm pregnant, so my husband and I are looking for a larger place to live. We found a great house, where the landlord lives in a separate basement MIL unit in the house. Should I conceal that I'm pregnant (doable depending on what I wear) in case concerns about screaming babies might convince him not to rent to us? Or should I tell him up-front, since living in the same house as a landlord who doesn't want you there could be uncomfortable and stressful? [more inside]

Bay Area Apartments: Explain like I'm 5

I have a job offer in San Francisco. I understand that renting there is more difficult than it's ever been. My requirements are: I want to be able to walk + bike + BART/Bus to work, which is around South Beach. Other than that, I am cool with East Bay, South, whatever. I could swing $2500-ish a month, but that is an upper boundary. Tell me about neighborhoods, tell me whether there exist "apartment headhunters" who could reliably do this for me, school me thoroughly. Thank you in advance.

Everyone in me is a bird, but landlords won't rent to any of us.

My current rental house is too small, so I'm looking for a larger house or apartment to rent when my lease is up next month. I have excellent income and strong credit and good references, with roots in the area. I'm friendly and professional. But I have a feeling that potential landlords may be refusing to rent to me because they suspect I am pregnant. (I am not.) [more inside]

Too many people on the lease... what are the downsides?

I'm trying to arrange private student accommodation for next year in a smallish university town in the UK, as part of a group of four students. Decent shared accomodation for four people is few and far between -- but three-person houses are abundant and awesome. How bad an idea is it for one of us to be a permanent 'guest'? [more inside]

My rented basement apartment flooded and I can't live there anymore. What next?

I rent a basement apartment in Washington, DC in a neighborhood that recently experienced serious, repeated dirty water flooding due to issues with the water system (specifically, Bloomingdale). I evacuated amidst the first of three floods and I haven't lived there since. I don't believe I can move back in, so I'd like some help understanding what I am supposed to do next. [more inside]

Living in own rental duplex?

My wife and I are in a position to possibly buy the duplex we have rented for many years. Ownership would entail renting the other half of the building to a tenant. That half is currently unoccupied. We have never been homeowners or landlords before. Has anyone ever lived in the same building as their tenant? I can think of both perks and nightmares. Any considerations or advice to the reality of that scenario? You are not our lawyer, etc. Thanks.

Need to rent a house in a tight market. Seeking tips and strategy.

Need tips and strategy for getting a rental house. Our rental market is very tight (in north Seattle). Landlords can afford to be picky. At first glance, we don't look like ideal tenants. Our situation: We are putting our big fancy house on the market. We've been wanting to downsize for a long time. Just now, the market timing is very good. Our property is desirable and we can expect a decent price, and equity pay-out at closing. When the house sells, we plan to rent a small house in North Seattle. Looking for a 6 month to 1 year lease. Questions about moving to specific part of Jamaica Plain

We've been thinking about moving to Jamaica Plain for a while but have been looking mostly around Centre St / Sumner Hill / Pondside. Now we've found a pretty great place available, but it's on the "wrong" side of the tracks, due east from Green St station, right by Franklin Park. So, how is it around there? How is Franklin Park? We're somewhat worried about crime/safety. Also somewhat worried about being relatively far from the nicer shops/etc on Centre. Would love to read any advice on this specific area, or JP / Franklin Park in general.
