NYC Rentals that Are Part of Hotels

Here's a challenge: I'm writing an article on NYC luxury rentals that are in hotel buildings and provide access to hotel amenities (such as room service, cleaning services, etc). W New York is an example of what I'm looking for. Finding these is tough. They are often really sneaky! Can you find one?

Tenant Rights in Toronto

Posted to Ft. Jackson (Columbia, SC), need apt. w/ Garage

Returning stateside from Korea, and being posted at Ft. Jackson, in Columbia, SC in December. So, I beseech you, O Great Hivemind - what parts of Columbia should I look at living in? Any recommendations on apartments or landlords? All the Army people I talk to go on about Sandhills northeast of the city, but I'm wondering if there's any other great places to live. Complication - I need to have parking for two vehicles, at least one of which is covered, preferably a garage. I have an older car that I'd like to keep out of the elements. [more inside]

Finding a place to rent after leaving behind a dirty apartment

I recently graduated from college, and will be finding a place to rent within the next month or two, likely in either the SF Bay Area or NYC (so the market will be rather competitive). While in college, due to being five young guys who were apathetic about cleaning, we didn't leave our apartment in the best condition, and incurred significant cleaning fees (~$450), much more than our landlord usually charged. (Not that we literally destroyed anything, though.) How badly would this affect our rental applications in the near future, and what should I say if asked? [more inside]

Rented an apartment, but the natural gas smell is too much

My newly rented apartment has a distinct odor of natural gas in the living room/kitchen adjacent to the gas fireplace, furnace, and water heater. The rental company (on site) has been notified and is getting a work order together for it, but I'd like some proof other than "Smells like it to me...". Is there a measurement I can take to show that it needs to be fixed?

The landlord of my vacation rental just flaked on me. What can I do?

Earlier this year, I arranged to rent a beach house for a week in Rehoboth Beach, DE this summer. Yesterday, the owner contacted me to inform me that he was cancelling my reservation because he found a tenant who wanted to rent the house for the whole summer. At this point, my vacation is pretty much ruined, as I'm unlikely to find a comparable rental at a similar price this late in the year. What recourse (if any) do I have with the owners? Did they break any laws by doing this? [more inside]

Need a short term place to live with 3 cats

We sold our house and have to be out soon but we haven't found a house in our new city (US university town) yet. Since the time is short, we need a back-up plan for a place to stay until we can buy and move into our new house but it's complicated by the fact that we have 3 cats. Only girl in sharehouse full of boys?

So. My application for a place has been approved but the agent conveniently decided only to tell me now that I'd be the only girl with 3 other boys (I asked at inspection who the other housemates were and she said they were students so I assumed it was mixed). The house was actually very neat and clean when I inspected, and my room is locked. I asked if I could meet the others and the agent said that was impossible because 2 of the 3 are rarely home. 2 of the boys are students with part-time jobs, and the third is fulltime in IT. London lettings agents: as dubious as they're rumoured to be?

After a couple of months here, our flat has required major repairs (due to neglect of previous tenants) and the agency has been responsive about getting them done. Home management company doesn't want to fix clothes dryer

Wondering about the best way to navigate this situation: I rented a house unfurnished with the exception of a washer/dryer, refrigerator, and microwave which were included "as-is". I'll put in a load, expect it to have been completed, but then come back to find them damp ( and with that awful damp smell in the clothes ) and have to send it through the wash again.
