How easy to sublet a Long Island City apartment?

My girlfriend and I are thinking of re-signing a twelve-month lease, but we know we don't want to stay for the entire lease. How likely will we be able to sublet our Long Island City apartment, just across the river from Manhattan? [more inside]

Loans for NYC Moving Expenses

I'm planning to move from one NYC neighborhood to another at the end of the summer. Though I'm 99% sure I'll be able to cover all potential expenses (movers, security deposit, first/last month's rent, broker's fee), I was wondering if there's a reputable company that advances small loans to help cover these costs. Cheap rent ANYWHERE on the East Coast

It's a bit of a wide net I'm casting here, but where's the biggest and/or nicest apartment I can rent for under $500 in fairly cool cities in the Eastern half of the USA? Say, anywhere east of (and including) Minnesota to Louisiana. I love NOLA, and I've liked everyone I've ever met from Minnesota... [more inside]

Where can I find landlord/tenant laws online that will help me with this...

The building we're living in has been sold to a management company who just put out notices while we were on vacation. The notice is dated 12/4 and it states that rent payment must be in the form of cash, money order, or bank check. Their office hours are during the same hours we are at work mon-fri, 9-5. Payment can be dropped in their box or mailed to their office. They state payments received after the 5th of the month (due the 1st) will incur a 20% penalty. I'm wondering what the tenants rights are. Can they really NOT accept personal checks?!! [more inside]

Where to rent an Elliptical Machine in NYC?

Where can a person rent an elliptical exercise machine (e.g. Precor) in New York City? I'm interested in getting a high quality elliptical machine for home use, but I'm concerned about the cost and my relative lack of self-motivation. I don't want to spend $2000+ on a machine that I use five times then ignore. I'd rather rent for a while until I'm sure it works for me. I need something at home -- gym membership is not an option. Is there any company that will rent me an elliptical machine by the month, and deliver to my apartment in Manhattan?
