Electro remixes of indie/pop music?

Can you recommend good electro remixes of indie / pop music? One of my favorite examples is the Twelve's remix of the Black Kid's I'm Not Gonna Teach your Boyfriend.

Also, I really like this version of Katy Perry's I Kissed a Girl.

Any other good remixes you've heard, or artists that regularly do this kind of thing?

Okay, so how are people making those video remixes that are ever so popular right now? I can see it happening a few different ways:

1) They rip the original video from YouTube and pull it into Final Cut or whatever, and edit the sound bites and video with the music (made in some other program, presumably).
2) They rip the video from YouTube and bring the audio only into an audio/music program, and then re-edit the video to match the audio.
3) Some other way I'm not thinking?

What software are people using?

Okay, I know this is humiliating. I agreed with you in advance. (Hi, everybody!) But. I was listening to Digitally Imported the other day.... ... and I know I should have somehow checked the track list? Or something? What I heard was some sort of Christian Siriano (Amy Poehler?) remix.... 'Hey tranny, it's tranny. You goin' to the club? Hang on, someone's texting me. ...You're a hot mess.' And so on. So WHO MIXED THAT?

Songfilter: James Brown leads a line dance. May contain "slide to the right" and "cha cha cha". Probably someone's remix. I heard this song at a New Years party, and it got everyone out on the dance floor, so I thought it would be nice to find a copy of it. It's basically JB quickly teaching the crowd a line dance. Other possible phrases: "two times" or "one time".

Where can I find this song, or does it exist in permanent form somewhere? Can I get a witness? [thank you askme for the nice James Brown threads. I'm starting with Live At the Apollo while waiting for this thread...]

Radically remixed video

I'm looking for a website and video that described a man who wrote some software that radically remixed video. The software would take hours of video and analyze the audio from it. After the analysis, you were able to speak into a microphone plugged into the computer - and the machine would play back video with audio that most closely matched what you were saying. He used a Michael Jackson interview as one of the examples.

I think I may have seen this on Boing Boing a few years back - but fail when trying to search for it. Any ideas?

I'm looking for a specific cover/remix of "Bang bang" by Nancy Sinatra. The version I heard had a heavy bass beat and the tempo seemed to have been sped up slightly. It was not the Audio Bullys remix. It had a kind of 'trip hop' feel.

Who remixed Ella Fitzgerald's version of "Sunshine of your Love" to make it Motown? Hi all, thanks to anyone who can help with this - I have been searching for months!

I heard a fantastic remix of Ella Fitzgerald's version of Sunshine of Your Love in a club and the DJ couldn't tell me who it was by.

It sounded very up-tempo motown, same sort of feel as Do You Like Good Music by Arthur Conley, or a faster Hard To Handle.

I am DESPERATE to get hold of it - any help appreciated! It's not the Rocker HiFi version by the way - I already checked that one out.

Thanks!

Fast Paced Jazz or Jazztronica for my Driving Playlist

I'm having trouble finding music of a particular genre... kind of like "action jazz music." or maybe cinematic jazz music? I'm creating a playist called Night Racing.... the kind of tunes you can drive fast two at 1am when you have the road all to yourself. The soundtrack to the anime "Metropolis" comes to mind, but any kind of fast tempoed, groove heavy, jazz chart, electronica remix, soundtrack or something a long those lines would be perfect. The only song in my playlist right now of that type is the Zero dB remix of Peace Orchstra's "Henry." and Branford MArsalis "Elysium (the first 4 min of it anyways!) Any help is greatly appreciated!!

happy holidays!

By the by, I checked out similar posts, and picked up a bunch of new albums from it cause they sounded great, but I'm looking for something more on the live side that the DJ side

Trance covers/remixes

Looking for trance covers/remixes. I love trance. I'm particularly fond of female vocals in trance. I stream it all day from the Internet at work.
I've also always loved covers of popular songs.
Fuse the two, and now I'm looking for trance remixes of popular songs! I'd be interested in forms other electronic music (techno, jungle, etc), but I always come back to trance in the end.

While I'm already aware of OCremix and more than have my fill of console remixes, I'm not particular to any specific genre. Anything from classical music to 80's pop to heavy metal, I'm all ears.
Artists who specialize in creating remixes are a plus.

You know how in (some) remixes, someone will yell during the intro "REEEEEEEmix!" with the "re" as a higher note, and the "mix" as a lower note (the interval always seems to be the same). Who started that, and when was that particular interval settled upon as the way to say "remix"?
Help me find a 40-50 minute MP3 mash up

40 minutes of music help, please! 1 long MP3 of music for a fashion show. This is a request for an outdoor company's internal sportswear and outerwear fashion show. My boyfriend has been tasked with doing the music. This means that I've been tasked with doing the music.

I know about DJ Food - Raiding the 20th Century, and that'd be okay to use, but are there any other 40-50 minute long MP3s with newer songs remixed in a fun way? I want 1 MP3 to make it easy on everyone for set up.

Curse words should be avoided and while hip hop is okay, the mean age of the group will be 40, but the music "should project younger."

Where can I find bpm databases?

On the prowl for online databases that list BPMs of popular music. When remixing and sampling popular music, it's handy to know the BPM of the song you're working with. This askmefi question solves that problem by providing software that can analyze songs and determine the BPM automatically. However, I am not getting the accuracy I need to synchronize and layer material. Tap Tempo sometimes works as you tap the tempo manually, however, for some songs this can be a struggle for accuracy (especially when the tempo has decimals in it).

With all that out of the way, I am looking for databases, archives, text files, forum threads, or anything that lists a large selection of songs with their respective BPMs.

This particular thread offers a ton of hip-hop BPM's which is perfect for when you have the vocal track of a popular rap song and you want to create a mash-up or whatever your remixing heart desires.

Other than that, the only real resource I've found is the BPM Database which doesn't have a whole lot yet, although it's been helpful in one or two occasions.

Obviously it's difficult to find a comprehensive list of the BPM of every song in the history of popular music but the more resources bookmarked the better. Thanks for your help.

mc DJ did a killer remix of Sufjan Stevens "Illinois". I want to use a track from the remix on a podcast, but I don't know who to speak with regarding rights. I haven't found any mention on mc DJ's site if he was granted official permission to remix and distribute "Illin-noise!". Do I need to get permission from him to use the track, or do I need to contact Sufjan's people?

Dancefloor-friendly video game remixes?

I'm DJing a rave in a month or so, and the crowd I'll be playing to is much more of a gamer crowd than the average rave-going-crowd is. I'm going to throw in some game music remixes at some point, and I thought I'd ask for suggestions. For the most part, the DJs will all be playing industrial/techno/psy, so a 12-minute jazz-fusion rendition of Dr. Wily's Stage 1 from MM2 won't go over terribly well. Something straightforward would be great, that way I can actually mix it under something else.

If I can't find anything, I'll probably just rip apart some SPC files for something to burn to CD, but I figure someone knows a remix that would be perfect. I'm familiar with ocremix, but there are too many tracks to pour through randomly.

I'll be playing industrial-techno/hardcore for the most part. As for the actual game, my only real criteria is that people will recognize it. Something from Ecco or Shadowgate won't go over as well as FF/Sonic/Zelda/Metroid/etc. It doesn't need to be industrial-y, as long as it's not too busy to mix under something else.

How Can I Find This Remix?

I was listening to a stream of KCRW's Nocturna program and heard a remix of Feist's "One Evening." Now I want it. It's called "One Evening (onda remix). It's actually on the rotation on various KCRW music programs. I checked iTunes but no go. I wrote the host of the program and he told me that it's not being released. Is there any way I can find this remix?

How can I found out about remix contests?

Does a "remix contest" blog exist? Are there any music production type websites that keep up with this stuff? I like to try my hand at remixing music in order to develop my production stylings but Googling "remix.contest" doesn't seem to cut it anymore. It would be nice if it wasn't one of those awful Acid loops only type deals. Pretty much anything that gives you a starter kit of source WAVs and some vague theme would be capital, thanks!

Who can remix my recordings into a song, for (very modest) pay?

I've got two recorded conversations, in .wav format, that I would like remixed into a single song, preferably with a hip-hop beat. I'd like the resulting song to be 2-3 minutes in length, in a digital audio format such as .wav or .mp3, using the funnier snippets of these recordings (each recording is about five to six minutes in length). I have tried every obvious search on Google, trying to find someone who might do this, and have come up empty. Any suggestions?

Keep in mind that my budget is small, so I'm not looking for genius.

John, Paul, George, Ringo, and Madonna.

At the dawn of the mp3 era, I found a track on the web that has alluded me since. It was a remix, and may have been a home-brew, and it's therefore much harder to find. I'm hoping there's a Mefite out there that has stumbled on this in the past, and can point me the right direction. The base song was one of the heavily Hindu-influenced electronica tracks off of Madonna's Ray Of Light album (it may have been the track "Shanti/Ashtangi", but I don't have the album handy, so I can't tell you definitively). The best part of the remix was how the DJ weaved in bits of The Beatles' Within You Without You (the heavily Hindu-influenced track from Sgt. Pepper's).

For me, there's a sense memory attached to that song of listening to it on a burned CD and walking through the World Trade Center (where I worked, at the time). It's just one of those things I'd like to recapture from that time period.

Television... so fresh, and chocolatey too!

My girlfriend is obsessed with the Cillit Bang advertisement remix. Back in the 80's (or early 90's), there was a similar "remix" video of 50's black and white advertisements set to a beat-box soundtrack, with "lyrics" consisting of samples the sales pitches of those ads. Can anyone ID this? The main "chorus" went "Television! So bright... and chocolatey too!" with the words "television," "so bright," and "... and chocolatey too" taken from different ads. Or maybe it was "so fresh" instead of "so bright"... but you get the idea. IIRC, it was on one of the Dr. Demento countdowns in the late 80's.
