Grandma died. Grandma was a huge part of my daughter's life. My daughter is 9, but brain damage makes her like a 2-year-old. My daughter prefers to talk about sad/scary things via anthropomorphic animals in picture books. ("Scared like Piglet." "Sad like Franklin.") Any suggestions for a book with animals about death that covers everything simply - sickness, hospital, death, funeral, sadness, saying goodbye, comfort?
Remembering who someone is has been a roadblock to successful networking in the past – but in my new job, I have more people to remember than ever. I’d like to know what you, as someone who also has trouble remembering names and faces, has done to keep track of a large network. I am not looking for mnemonic tricks to remember one or several specific names. I’m hoping more for something like “Everyone I meet goes in my electronic rolodex that I update with X information after each meeting.” [more inside]
I remember a song from around 2008 that was tagged the bravery- time wont let you go. Ive basically listened to both their sun and moon album but its not one of those songs. It starts with a strong piano and and its kinda slow but the drums are prominent in the song. Its killing me and i cant find it anywhere. I can half remember it in my head and it sounds like it could be by the bravery but im not excluding similar sounding artists like the editors. Cant remember any lyrics though!
Hi metafilter, I read this (fantasy?) book as a kid and only remember it vaguely. I was hoping someone could help me find it. Here is all that I remember, which might be made up or two books joined into one in my head: [more inside]

I could have sworn it was something by Neal Stephenson, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Here is what I remember -- bits and pieces -- and I didn't finish it at the time, so presumably these events happened near the beginning of the book... [more inside]
I was watching this film on my previous laptop via TV-Tuner card and right then my laptop had crashed. I didn't check channel name and newspaper for the film name at the time, and now I can't remember it. It was at least before May 2010(I was watching the film in college and this when I left college - jic it helps though I am not sure if the film released recently at the time)... It was a train scene in the wilderness. [more inside]
Okay, so there was this show (maybe on the USA network?) around 1990-ish, maybe. The premise was that a former superspy/secret-agent/hero had retired to the suburbs, and his former archnemesis moves into the house next door. They're still kind of enemies, but in a Simpsons/Flanders "friendly" way, instead of trying to kill each other like they used to. What is this show? [more inside]

Help with memory loss please! I am taking lithium for my mental illness, and although I've tried numerous other medications, it does the best at managing my symptoms with minimal side effects except this major one: I think I'm having a LOT of memory loss. I'm trying to remember a children's book. There is an explosive so powerful that a single grain of it would cause a huge blast. It is in the possession of a sinister person. Our tiny hero rides a bird, steals the explosive, and (spoiler) drops it in the ocean, where it detonates relatively harmlessly. [more inside]

Please help identify this childhood book. I'm 90% sure it was english, otherwise it could have been written in spanish. The book was wider than tall, probably 15" by 10", very colourful but dark and weird at the same time. The only page i remember is one where s the main character is walking through a cave or forest and all these very interesting animals/creatures looking at him. (I think there's also page with just eyes surrounding him in the dark). The creatures are oddly drawn and very interesting and it was scary if anything. I believe this was a hand-me-down but eitherway I had it late 80's early 90's. I know the details are vague but i'm just hoping someone out there can bring me to peace. Thankyou

I saw this old horror movie about eight years ago, but I think it's from the seventies. A young couple moves into an old house and people start dying. As it turns out, the ghost either is, or looks just like, the young woman. The ghost speaks to her through the mirror. The only line of dialog I remember is when she was walking along a flight of stairs with an old man, and he says something to the effect that, "people today are so impolite." [more inside]
