So I guess my mother is getting remarried... this Saturday!?

Yesterday (i.e. Christmas) my mother called and asked us over next weekend... to attend her wedding. I've given it 24 hours and am still totally perplexed. Please help me sort through what I should do, and maybe confirm that this is kind of bizarre? [more inside]

Do I tell my daughter that her disowned grandmother remarried?

My ex-spouse broke all ties to their widowed mother a few years back. Since then, I've been the conduit for communication between Daughter (11 years old; lives with Ex; I have her for summers and some other holidays) and Grandma. This consists of birthday and Christmas cards and presents (Ex returns any mail from Grandma unopened, doesn't take calls, etc.). I talk to Daughter regularly via phone and text, and hold Grandma's presents and cards until she's at my house. We all live far enough apart that visits from Grandma aren't an issue. [more inside]

Names on remarried mother's headstone

I am trying to figure out the best way to name my recently deceased mother on her gravestone. I would like my father's name to be included but I would also like to be respectful of my step-father and of my mother's marriage to him. [more inside]

Can I marry my Sister in Law?

Can I marry my Sister in Law? I have a question about second marriages that I would like to get some opinions on. I have been a widower now for 14 months. I am 61. My wife’s sister (my sister in law) has been a widow now for 4 years. She is 58. She and her husband and my wife and I were always very close. She has been an incredible friend this last year and helped me through my grieving process. We have been spending a moderate amount of time together. We get along famously and have similar interests. I have become very fond of her. Is it inappropriate for me to ask her about possible dating with a long term relationship and even marriage on my mind? Or is it appropriate? Oh by the way, neither of us has dated at all. [more inside]

How can we remarry after a dual gender transition?

My spouse and I got married when I was still legally designated "female" and she was still legally designated "male," under our old names. How can we legally remarry, using our new names and identified genders, after gender transitioning? We don't want to get divorced (it's expensive and we love eachother) to do it. [more inside]

It's only marriage number 2; I should do better than a card, right?

My father (a widower) is getting remarried quite soon. Can you help me come up with an appropriate, ideally "experience-based" wedding gift for somewhere in the vicinity of southern Ohio? Perhaps even one that isn't going to break the bank? Because if not, I'm sorely tempted to go the "really nice card" route. [more inside]
