By my searching, it seems that there hasn’t been a “moving to Vancouver” question yet this year, so I’m here to fill the gap. I am considering a move from Sacramento, CA to Vancouver, BC and would very much appreciate advice and ideas on getting immediate needs met in Vancouver for the first 1-3 months. (I have read the cbsa.gc.ca site’s “Moving Back to Canada” pages, previous Ask MeFi answers, and other sources.)

I may be relocating to Richmond for work soon and have been trying to get a read on where to live in the city. After reading this
previously I wanted to see what's changed in the last 6 years.
The most important things to me in an apartment are: safety, kitchen space, and quiet. I tend to work long hours and like my apt to be the place that I can finally relax in.
Thanks in advance!

This is actually more like a two part question so bear with me. We are very likely moving to the bay area in the near future and could use some guidance. Also, we are heading there in about 10 days as my wife has never been and I want to make sure she falls in love with it.

I'm relocating in 2 months and currently doing the job search. How do I handle current job postings which do not specify a start date: apply anyway and state my arrival time (or don't mention it)? Is there anything I can do in the application/interview process to increase the likelihood that an employer might hold a position for me, or how do I broach the subject? Is it worth applying to a job that has a start date earlier than my arrival "just in case"?

Help an older couple move to the bay area-My parents are interested in moving to the bay area and are visiting this week to check out some possibilities. Do you have recommendations for areas/communities that might be a good fit for them?
They are in their 60's and like quiet, peaceful places, natural beauty, the ocean, slower pace, and they don't have a lot of money. They are spiritual and into alternative medicine, holistic health and gardening. Thank you!

My (wonderful, amazing, perfect-for-me) girlfriend and I have been together 9 months (though we've known each other for several years), and are currently living together.
Some background: I was born and raised in NYC, she's a transplant from Wisconsin (but went to college in Vassar). I'm 31, she's 28.
Recently, my job has become frustrating and monotonous. Some of this is because the bulk of my department is located in Seattle. They recognize this, and have mentioned to me that it may be possible to relocate to the Seattle office and adjust my position.
The gf and I are currently discussing the opportunity.

From Oakland to Boise? Liberal, hipsterish dude contemplating a move to attend BSU. Will I hate it? and yes, I saw
this post, but it's from 5 years ago and I've heard the city is changing (for the better?) I'm thrilled about the rent prices I'm seeing.
I've lived in Idaho before (Moscow), so I have a general sense of the culture, but haven't spent any time in Boise. What are the coolest, most convenient neighborhoods? Are there good (non-douchy) bars? Can I see relevant bands play?
Any advice on transferring to BSU as an undergrad would be appreciated as well.
Thanks!
