I would like to find would in disaster relief so I may travel and begin to pay off my student loans for my new BA in English. I'm also interested in teaching English abroad and have been trying to find programs in both of these fields, so if anyone has information on anything where one can travel, doesn't matter how terrible the pay just as long as there is one, again, I'm in debt.

I had a Humanities teacher in High School many, many years ago who, in the course of a lesson, introduced a word that I cannot remember. This word described the act of leaving the lower parts of a highly placed relief carving unfinished, as no one would see the work.

What are some PVO/NGO that will enable me to volunteer in the relief effort in Japan? (I am willing to pay for my own air fare/accommodations/etc).
Also, in terms of training, what are some programs or certifications that will help train/prepare me for going overseas?

My friend is trying to raise money so that his college group can go to Haiti to help earthquake victims with this Hands On Disaster Group. I am opposed to and skeptical of this concept. How do I reconcile my biases and support him? Should I?

How can we help Haiti? I am a skilled off-road motorcycle rider and know many others. Does anyone know or have connections with a group, person, NGO that would be interested in bringing such people into Haiti to assist in delivering medicine, etc.? One of the biggest problems for aid workers is getting to the people who need help. Obviously, lives are lost with each hour that goes by.

Before it went under (the second time),
Radar magazine published a story about the relief workers in the area affected by the 2004 tsunami. (I think it was published in late 2005/early 2006.) Is it available online anywhere? I can't find it on radaronline.com or via Google.

If you owe a bunch of back child-support (14 years for the older child, three years for the second, two different women), are married to a woman you could take or leave (not the mother of either), have no custody of the children, have never met the second child, have had no contact with the first for the past ten years, would like to begin to become current with past due payments, would like a closer relationship with your children, don't want to go to jail, don't consider yourself to be someone having a strong job
skill-set, are currently unemployed {leisurely, if not pleasantly, subject to the arbitrary whims of said spouse [of which include no requirements for earning an income (lots of time to play video games, watch movies, and think)]}, don't believe you can support yourself alone with the work that you believe you
can find, are afraid to find a job, move out, lose the maximum in state-mandated garnishments from each check, fail again and end up living with/under someone else, would like to learn and travel, wouldn't mind medical, dental, vision and life insurance, could use a retirement fund; would enlisting in the US Army be a strategically effective
next action?

Apparently there is an effort to rethink the role of the internet (and other communications technologies) in disaster relief. The idea is that a well-thought out information consodlidation and distribution would not require government and could be done cheaply and rapidly. Does anyone know more about this and where I could go to help?
I believe there may even be a conference later this year.
