Question for the guys: I've been reading "He's Just Not That Into You," which posits that if a guy is really interested in a woman, he'll pursue her relentlessly, no matter what else is going on in his life. Is this a valid theory? Has there ever been a time when you really liked a woman and were attracted to her, but didn't pursue a relationship because of external factors that had nothing to do with her (e.g. work problems, family illness, trauma of past relationship)?

I am a 38-year-old man who has many good qualities (I hope so at least) but two drawbacks which understandably be dealbreakers for most women - I am impotent and I have a small penis (around 4 inches on the rare occasions it is erect), so even if my impotence got treated I am not sure I could satisfy a women. On the other hand, I have heard that it's possible to have satisfactory sex life with a 3 inch penis, but have no idea how that can be. So basically I am what would be a figure of ridicule for many other men, and not exactly a strong candidate to be a boyfriend for most women either. However I know some women while still heterosexual may not want a sexual partner e.g. they may be celibate for whatever reason. And there may even be women who will overlook a sex life without penetrative sex for the right person. I have just come out of a four-year relationship which had lots of affection and companionship but not strong feelings of passion and obviously no sex, but I eventually want another relationship again and believe I have a lot of love to give the right person. My girlfriend and I have been dating for a few months now and it’s managed to get pretty serious relatively quickly. We now live together, though not “officially” (she technically lives with her sister) we’ve already established daily routines. I really enjoy being with her and love her dearly. Hands down she is the most complete woman I’ve ever dated and I feel we both compliment each others lives nicely. However there are a few places in our relationship where we struggle and I’m having trouble resolving it. Sex: My libido is higher than hers. I prefer to have sex 5-6 times a week while she doesn’t prefer anything over 3. We’ve tried finding a middle ground (maybe 4) but this often leads to arguments because we both end up feeling under-appreciated. Down Time: After a long day at work, most of all I want to sit and talk with her. Not necessarily about anything. Just to relax. She prefers to sit alone and read a book or a magazine. This often leaves me feeling alone. Lately, I’ve been going to workout and hangout with the fellas as a way to mitigate this issue, but it only helps a little. Romance: While I’ll openly admit that I’m not the most romantic person in the world, I do try. She mentions that our relationship could use a bit more romance but when I do so, it seems as if it goes un-noticed. She’ll appreciate it at the time, but it seems after a day or so, it is simply forgotten about. And finally - The Past: Her theory on the past is whatever happened back then is irrelevant now. I mostly agree, but some things I want to know about simply for curiosity’s sake. This mostly leads to arguments however. With all of that said, I’ve begin to take the frame of mind that all of these concerns since they are not “deal-breakers” I’ll just deal with the best way I know how. I love her and I don’t want this to end but there is the thought in the back of my mind saying “maybe we just aren’t compatible”. Is this thinking rational thinking or am I just being petty. I know a relationship is hard work, but how hard is “too hard”? How do I resolve this?

After reading this thread, a similar question came to mind. I have always been raised with the notion that you pay a girl's way as a gentleman, but as a student (and a poor one at that) this is often not entirely possible. My current girlfriend makes far more money than I do acting and modeling, and so she pays for the vast majority of our 'go out' experiences. This was fine for the first few months, but it's been over a year now and I feel like it somehow emasculates me to be taken out to dinner on a regular basis by my girlfriend. I know this seems sexist, but in all honesty I would love to just be able to pay my way (half) and not feel guilty/less-of-a-man. At times this feeling has gotten to the point that we've fought about what she can buy me, because of the way it makes me feel indebted (although she never holds it above me in any way). I do feel, though, that she uses her ability to buy me things as a way to make herself indispensable, to ensure I would never find 'anything better'. Should I tell her to stop taking me out and buying me extravagant gifts I can never repay (she took me to Amsterdam for my 21st birthday, for example), or just realize I'm the luckiest man in the world and stop bitching? Somehow I suspect the latter...

Online dating diplomacy. If you decide after an email or two that you are not interested in the other person, either because the conversation is uninspiring or the pictures they send are unappealing, should you actually write to tell them "sorry, but I'm not interested?" Or is that worse than falling silent and letting the correspondence die? Some people persist if you don't respond, and ask "what's the deal? you didn't like my pic?" I honestly don't know what's the best thing to say, if anything. Honesty is not the same as full disclosure, and I just feel that random people really don't need to hear that I find them undesireable / uninteresting. I figure if I just stop writing, most people will simply write me off and move on. What do you think?

[TrannyDatingFilter] I am a relatively well adjusted pre-op male-to-female transsexual who has been living as a female since I was a teenager (almost a decade). I put myself through school on my own, gotten a very good job, and have a small group of close friends. I don't advertise what I am - I don't think that I should have to and I pass well enough that people have rarely clocked me. As of late I've been feeling very lonely. I would really love having a boyfriend and eventually a husband and children. I've never dated a man before and I'm wondering how realistic it is for me to find one who isn't interested in me only for my "defect". I've met tranny chasers before and I want nothing to do with them. I don't want to be someones fetish object. I'm kind, sensitive, (mostly!) intelligent, and not a complete eyesore. Is it reasonable for me to think there's a regular guy out there for me? Someone who can love me despite my past? If you're a guy, under what circumstances (if any) could you accept someone like me as a partner? I don't believe my transsexualism defines me - can someone in the role of potential partner be expected to see anything else? You get the idea. I've had this discussion with other transsexuals but I'm interested in the non-transsexual perspective.

He's Just Not That Into You, from two writers on Sex and the City, posits the theory that a man who sends mixed signals to a woman just doesn't like her enough to step up his game with her, so she shouldn't bother waiting around for him. Examples of behavior from the book where the guy is not really that keen on you (and possibly wants to avoid a difficult or emotional confrontation): You invite him up after a date and he bows out saying he has an early day tomorrow; he says he's afraid of risking the friendship by dating you; he's recently divorced and afraid of getting involved again; he emails you or even calls you and flirts but doesn't ask you out; he gives you his number in a bar and tells you to call him, etc. Also, in the phrase, "I love you, but I'm not in love with you," the first 'I love you' really means "I don't want to hurt you," and the second part really means what it says. MeFi, is this true? If a guy is really into you, will he always pursue?

I am 30 years old and have been living in beautiful Bermuda for 4 years. I work as a computer analyst, have a good amount of money saved, and I am entirely single. Problem is, I am now ready to settle down, but a small island like this doesn't lend itself very well to meeting compatible single women who aren't tourists. If I was in love, I would stay in Bermuda as long as immigration laws would let me. I have been thinking about moving somewhere in which I can sustain my outstanding lifestyle ( think laid back, friendly people, beautiful landscape, great money ), while at the sametime increasing the likelihood of meeting / getting to know that special someone ( think hot, smart, down-to-earth, worldly ). I consider the world my oyster. I like small towns and big cities alike. Where should I consider living?

Advice for the socially awkward, part three million and two. I've been asked to have lunch next week by a guy I recently met one time through work. I have accepted. I'd like to let him know I'm already in a committed relationship without coming off as cutting. He seems nice, with friend potential. Have I already blundered? Is it a date? Help!

So, there was this girl I dated about 11 or 12 years ago. I know right where she lives and her phone #. I've been considering calling her or writing her a letter, but I want to find out more about her first. I'm just curious about how her life turned out. What public sources can a person use to dig up information on a person?
